Common 1215

Common‘s got high hopes:

“I really do believe we, as hip-hop artists, pick up what’s going on in the world. I think hip-hop artists will have no choice but to talk about different things and more positive things. Try to bring a brighter side to that because, even before Barack, I think people had been tired of hearing the same thing.”

Is this brotha on to something or is he just pissing in the wind? It’ll be interesting to see what the next 4 years will do to hip-hop, but we’re not holding our breath. There are way too many suckas profiting from getting their shuck and jive on.

  • Oshie - Creole Baby was right, that Pop Champagne video is so gay.

It’s funny how as Common’s music has gotten more ‘positive’ it has also gotten progressively suckier…

I think some will be inspired by Barack to be more positive and the more sales power they have I guess the better chance they will have of getting their label to allow them to do something differant. These guys are puppets. But I do feel that if they don’t catch up with the times record sales will drop more and more. People are tired of hearing ever artist say the same thing.

I seriously hope Common is onto something.. I would hate to see that after we have made such HISTORICAL strides that it would just be coon business as usual for the black male!!

I mean really all rap music is are a bunch of minstrel show black males bragging about what they have now… If Barack isn’t bragging – and he’s the first black president of the USA – then I’m really tired of hearing these self centered clowns do it!!

His music has always been positive you asshead!! You obviously don’t know anything about this black man – or any black man for that matter unless it involves his nuts a full mile down your throat!!

Why don’t you go back to lockjawing and leave the issues facing the black community to black people!!

  • PURPPLE

real rap, which common happens to be apart of, is already positive so im not too concerned with hip hop

I feel Common. It’s too many Bojangling-A@@ coons out here wit wack a@@ lyrics. There is a BIG DIFFERENCE BETWEEN HIP HOP AND RAP!! THERE IS ALSO A BIG DIFFERENCE BETWEEN BEING A RAPPER AND BEING A LYRICIST!! I know that these wack rappers will not last a lyricism will prevail. I mean look at D4L, Franchise Boyz, Players Circle, V.I.C., Huey, all one hit wonders.

I totally AGREE with Common because i’m a part of that movement.. I’m an artist and I will be debuting in early 2009, and my song Surina’s Song is getting a good online buzz. 4 out 5 stars is what the song received. The song is about a girl who gets it all and realized that she should of have focused on love the dubs.. visit my myspace.com/matchstik to preview it.

I mean it is what it is. How many of yall went out and bout Common’s album at the same speed as Lil’ Wayne’s album? Please. Its the sign of the times, everything has become pop. The same thing has happened to Rock&Roll and R&B. Why do they think hip hop is any different? Its up to us consumers to buy the Common’s and the Kweli’s and the Lupe’s in order for all this cornjuice to be unheard. But lets be real. For every KRSOne and Rakim there were equally wack people out making CDs too. You need the conscienceness of NWA & Public Enemy but we also need the simpleness of Digital Underground and Too Live Crew. Think about it!

Sorry that should have read: this is NOT about Obama being a “messiah.”

ONLY IF ALOT OF RAPPERS HAVE A MIND STATE LIKE YOU COMMON.09 IS A NEW YEAR,NEW CHANGE OF GEAR.

See that why I f’s with Common…he’s quite right! Everybody with some sense is sick and got damn tired of hearing the same ole rap BS! Thus the toll on the industry’s sales. Hell more than half the people I know dont even get down with rap anymore. Real rap is Dead, while bubble gum rap is alive a well, but not selling!
