Authorities at a news conference Wednesday morning talked about a teenager’s suicide at Stillwater Junior High on Wednesday, recalling his bright red hair and big smile.
Officers say Cade Poulos, 13, used a handgun to shoot himself about 7:50 a.m. Wednesday at Stillwater Junior High at 1900 North Skyline St. No other students were injured or threatened, according to police.
Students told KOCO Eyewitness News 5 that it was a teacher who ran to Poulos’ side as soon as the shooting happened. At that point, the school was locked down and students were evacuated to Cimarron Plaza, a shopping center, at 1529 Cimarron Plaza. Parents were notified via a district messaging system and were asked to pick up their students there.
It was superhero dress-up day at school, according to the school’s website. Students who spoke with KOCO Eyewitness News 5′s Dan Thomas said the student who died was an eighth-grader and that he’d dressed up as Two-Face from the Batman series.
Authorities say that Cade does not appear to be the victim of bullying, but an investigation is ongoing.
