Time's Person of the Year

This comes as no shock – Barack Obama has been named Time’s Person of The Year. In the words of editor Rick Stengel:

“He hit the American scene like a thunderclap, upended our politics, shattered decades of conventional wisdom and overcame centuries of the social pecking order.”

People can say whatever they want, but a new day has surely arrived to this country, and it’s about damned time.

    Interesting new study, by the way, from nytimes(dot)com:

    The number of black children being raised by two parents appears to be edging higher than at any time in a generation, at nearly 40 percent, according to newly released census data.

    Demographers said such a trend might be partly attributable to the growing proportion of immigrants in the nation’s black population. It may have been driven, too, by the values of an emerging black middle class, a trend that could be jeopardized by the current economic meltdown.

    The Census Bureau attributed an indeterminate amount of the increase to revised definitions adopted in 2007, which identify as parents any man and woman living together, whether or not they are married or the child’s biological parents.

    According to the bureau’s estimates, the number of black children living with two parents was 59 percent in 1970, falling to 42 percent in 1980, 38 percent in 1990 and 35 percent in 2004. In 2007, the latest year for which data is available, it was 40 percent.

  • Sydney

    LOL, hey, Nina! I have to pick up this issue. :)

    @Mock

    LOL, yes, two-parent black households are apparently on the rise, but the increase may be party due to the rise of immigrants and cohabitation of unmarried parents.

  • Roe ski Love

    What up Redd Tony I am all over the phamtom DNA inquiry. Thank you for putting me on. I really had a keen interest as to how it might be related to the crop circles which are showing up more frequently and more detailed. The book that I mentioned yesterday is actually called (en route to global civilization)I recommend it highly.

  • Sydney

    OK… this is getting ridiculous… am I the only person that is paying attention to the fact that the bailout went from an initial $700 BILLION to $800 BILLION to OVER 9 TRILLION… and FACT… Obama has been Wall Street’s man… scratch… Zbigniew Brzezinski’s sock puppet ALL ALONG… BARACK OBAMA = LAMB CHOP… period…

  • Redd Tony

    What up Eddie! Long time no hear from….

    @Roe ski

    Yeah dogg, it gets deeper, the possibilities are breathtaking

  • Nina Knows

    Re.. lol, yes I hate when people try to find a “cooler” way of writing certain words, but sometimes it just sounds dumb.

    Damn eddie be coming out of nowhere. But come hard every time…lol

  • Redd Tony

    @Nina

    LOL…I know right when Eddie hits the scene the record stops playin…LOL

  • Marc B’s Honey…Mrs. Real Talk

    Obama is so inspiring…Now that’s what I’m talkin’ ’bout. This just goes to show, when you are focused and determined, you can make any dream a reality. YES WE DID!!!

  • Opie Taylor

    And here i thought Lil Wayne would have been Time’s Man of The Year. Oh well, not much of a difference if you really think about it. I’m sure you people must be proud.

  • http://www.gravatar.com Re

    @Opie Taylor

    *side eye*

    Don’t start…

  • Nina Knows

    Re… opie is begging for some attention…… or a beat down. lol

  • tiger

    Man of the Year? Enough with the the Obamamania. People act like he turns water in to wine or something? Just a slick dude from Chicago with a Ad campaign & a bunch of Clinton retreads selling the same stuff Kerry & Gore did. I’d for him to actually do something before getting all this praise…….

  • Nina Knows

    @eddie… I wanna check out the videos too. btw, your posts really be on point.

  • eddiedollars215

    @nina knows… thanks… and that was an open invitation… I’m trina’ blow up and get $.15 a comment like soulja boy (or however he misspells his name)… before they shut down the web… HAHAHAHAHAHAHA…

    @tiger… it kind of feels like I just watched an Oprah produced episode of American Idol: Presidential Edition…

  • Nina Knows

    I believe people have different views and aspirations for Obama. I like him socially alot more than politically. To see a black family “make it” is endearing and meaningful to alot of Black people. but politically he is a politcian, with faults and promises. Some are not sure what he’s gonna do, or not do. But some look at it like no matter what he does, he’s crossed a stepping stone that really has nothing to do with politics.

    But I also hate to see people be sheep and hold him up like he’s the second coming of Jesus, when in all actuality, he’s still a man… a political figure at that. But it’s also refreshing to see him in the white house and bigger than that, see his Black wife and daughters there as well.

  • Redd Tony

    @Eddie, Thats whats up dogg.. Ima check em out tonight when I get in…keep doing ya thing

  • Nina Knows

    @eddie… yhea well let me get on there. cause you know the internet is not gonna stay this “open” forever. That’s already been in the making. Supposely they gonna start cutting it out, or charging for each downloaded page, beginning in Canada first. oh and VERY well monitored.. even more than now.

    Oh I figured it was an open invite, but what can I say, I’m VIP and wanted my own invitation dammit.. lol

    — that idiot’s whole stage name is: “Soulja Boy Tell`em” … smh, and why he gotta add the “tell em’” part at the end. lol

  • Angry Man

    I hate that picture!

  • da darkness

    essence had the cover. this one here is so cartoonish. again the cover on the ESSENCE periodical Mr. President is so timeless. Home looks as the boss

  • hit ‘em hard

    Time is pretty predictable. Faux news and the New Yorker Magazine need to herald him as man of the year for his ability to finesse all the bullsh** they tried to pin on him during the election!
