Track star Marion Jones has acknowledged using steroids as she prepared for the 2000 Summer Games in Sydney and is scheduled to plead guilty today in New York to two counts of lying to federal agents about her drug use and an unrelated financial matter. Jones, who won five medals at the Sydney Olympics, said she took the steroid known as “the clear” for two years beginning in 1999, according to the letter. A source familiar with Jones’s legal situation who requested anonymity confirmed the relevant facts that were described in the letter. I was kind of disappointed reading this last night, I won’t lie.
I believed her denying it because she did so vehemently.
Talking about she thought it was flaxseed oil, wtf?!
As a former track runner of the 100 – 200 & relay this is a sad day.
To compete at this level and find out your opponent is on steroids is almost sickening.

As being a track athlete @ Penn State who idolized her. I am deeply upset and feel betrayed that she was doping during her run of the 2000 Olympics.
To people who are outside of track this leaves a bad taste in their mouth about the integrity and efficiency of our sport. For that I apologize also.
Also for the 2 percent of athletes who dope there are still true athletes out there as myself and others. So whenever you a female with a body and stats like hers don’t *****ume she’s roiding up because a huge majority of athletes don’t dope up.
I know this is a ear and eyeful but I’m just trying to protect the integrity of sport and let outsiders know that we buss our ***** to get where we at and do not condone cheating in anyway, although its obvious that some athletes do stoop that low.

I’m so in agreement with you and this hurts in a weird kind of way because training is soooo intense.
You give it your all to compete, to be part of something bigger than yourself.
wow I’m lost for words because when this came out I almost prayed that she would be cleared, only to find out that she was positive.
I was also disappointed when i heard this yesterday. But come on did she really have to come out and say any thing??
That’s really sad, you know? Think about all the people that work really hard w/o steriods, that looked up to her…wow.

oh mz asia i mean, look at the barry bond case every body and they momma know barry took steroids willing or unwilling, marion u really couldn’t tell so she could have fought it even with the evidence they have….

and you know you can’t get into that type of zone while running. she sold her integrity. but as you so eloquently put it Most athlete’s do not condone this type of behavior because we train hard to compete.

Balco paid coaches to lie about what they were giving the athletes. Her coach lied about giving her that she thought it was flaxseed. But she didn’t need to take it. SHe was the best anyway. she made the olympic team at age 16. Which is damn near impossible for the US sprint team
I really looked up to her in high. I love track! Especially seeing ppl like her and Maurice Greene made me want to do better at any sport I parti*****ted it. I still think that she trained hard but the fact is she used enhancers…Aren’t those things supposed to cause ppl to become unstable mentally.

It seems like this is just a fact of life in sports people.. oh AND rap. People have and always will DOPE in order to have a competitive advantage.
I’m starting to realize that if you hear of rumors of someone doping, it’s probably most likely true. It historically has always turn out to be that way..It’s just a matter of how long before the accused finally decides to come clean. It is what it is.

3. Gymnastics, Track & Field, Wrestling (Real wrestling) Athletes tend to develope a strong body based off their training. I’m Sure Dominique Daws & Dominique Moceanu didn’t dope up because it wouldn’t enhance their performance. Gymnastics require balance and steroids doesn’t enhance that.

anyway, if a gymnast was going to dope, it would most likely be with some sort of laxative or diarretic. There’s pressure on female gymnasts to be light and have a slim proportion. Female gymnasts really don’t lift weights often, if at all. They do a lot of resistance exercises with their own body weight like sit-ups, rope climbing, leg lifts, handstand pressess etc. Anywho, how did Dominique Dawes’ name even get into this discussion? (Craziness on Bossip, I swear) She hasn’t competed in seven years, and she was no more buff than any of the other gymnasts on the US National Team.
This Marion Jones situation is really sad, because I believed her and honestly thought that she wasn’t as shady as the company she kept. Oh well.
Being an athlete myself, this was very disappointing to hear. I have always rooted for Marion Jones…the fact that she, for years, denounced using any performance inhancing drug(s) during her career is even more of a devastation…to her and to all of her fans. At one point she even sued someone over claims she was using steriods. *sighs* Unfortunately, there’s no way of knowing if at any point she didn’t use steriods and won metals or if she has always done so…her credibility is shot to hell. I firmly believe that all of her medals should be taken back from her, and she should publicly apologize to her fans and fellow competitors…it’s a shame that all those athletes who didn’t and don’t use steriods or any other inhancers have been overlooked for their true god-given talents…that goes for all athlete of any sport! Just sad.
Oh, and I’m not buying that whole spew that she [Marion J.] thought her trainer, or whomever it was, was giving her Flaxseed Oil instead…no one give you legal substances and then tells you not to tell anyone what your taking. Just be completely truthful and forward, sincerely apologize and I’m sure healthy minded individuals will forgive and move on.
No words for this all I can say is keep her head up.

I remember Marion Jones used to do those Nike commercials criticizing Charles Barkley for not wanting to be a role model and criticizing other athletes for bad behavior and not being better role models to children. Looks like she should have followed her own advice.

It REALLY unnerves me when I hear things like this. If I understand correct, didn’t they investigate her husband and he rolled over on her? There are so many athletes that put in good old fashion honest work and I thought she was one of them. I guess you never know these days… It’s sad because I feel like there is and always be a black spot on African Americans in sports anyway. This just creates yet another stereotype of us in sports. I guess to some every AA that will excel in any sport will be “suspect” in the future.

Before you go accusing anyone is good for you to read up on a athlete and search for any discrepancies in stats, physical figure, etc. The Williams sisters ALWAYS played a strong fast paced game and ALWAYS had extremely physical fit bodies.
