The negligent guards at the Cuyahoga County jail are responible for Sean Levert’s death:

The death of R&B singer Sean Levert may open jail medicine cabinets far and wide. Levert died in a Cleveland, Ohio jail after being forced to go cold turkey for six days. The jail refused to give him Xanax that had been prescribed for him. His death resulted in part from withdrawals from the med. Now the Cuyahoga County jail where Leveret died is looking to change its policies and give inmates meds for valid prescriptions.

Just as many suspected, those crazy fools had a hand in his untimely passing. We hope the Levert family prosecutes them rogues to the fullest.

Damn, a lawyer could have gotten a judge to release his medication to him after about one or two days. In this case a judges failure to release said Meds would be used against the state and the prison system in a lawsuit. Failure to go to a jedge in this case may not meen money for the Levert family, because it was a prison policy for safety reasons. i.e You are taking a drug for anxiety, but that drug is also a popular known street drug. The jail dosn’t want inmates to be running around high and having a good old time, so they ban all medications not subscribed by them. The policy now becomes problematic for the person who actually needs the medication for a serious illness. (Sean Levert)

Before everyone jumps to conclussions think about this. If a person comes into the jail with medication it will not be given to them. This is because the guards are not doctors and don’t know for sure what are in the bottles. People will put drugs and narcotic pain relievers in allergy medication bottles. They are offered a trip to the hospital to get it re-prescribed. Most people don’t want to wait at the hospital if they think they are getting out soon and will decline. Then what do you do? You can’t give them that pill because if it’s not what they say it is and they die you are responsible. You are damned if you do and damned if you don’t. I don’t know anything about that jail but it’s operating procedures should be similar to most jails. Xanax is a prescription drug but according to reports Levert was abusing them which caused his withdrawl. So the jail is responsible for his death because they wouldn’t continue to give him the large amount of the prescription drug he was abusing? When someone is going through withdrawls from crack is the jail supposed to give them more crack? I’m not defending the jail but we don’t know all the facts. Was he offered a hospital visit? Did he see a doctor? What exactly was the amount he was taking (again I heard it far exceeded the prescribed dose). Before you guys want the jail closed down think about the procedures in place to prevent people from bringing drugs in jail and passing them off as prescribed medicine.

    @ roe ski love

A lawyer cannot get a medication that was brought in by the inmate given to them. A lawyer cannot go to a judge and get it ordered to them. The only way a inmate gets medication is after going to the jail doctor or to a local emergency room if the inmate wants the medication immediately. That is why it is important to see if he requested or was offered medical attention. If he declined there is no lawsuit. Xanax is a popular street drug. You are right. People come into the jails all the time with illicit drugs in medicine bottles. They will try to pass off excasty pills as blood pressure medicine!!! It sucks but that’s why only a medical professional can give the inmate pills that came from the hospital or jail pharmacy. Most people will decline the hospital visit because they think they are getting out soon. It will be interesting to see what happens in this case.

  • Roni

Bottom line: HAD THAT DEADBEAT PAID HIS CHILD SUPPORT, HE MAY STILL BE ALIVE!

  • DATPHILYGIRL

you will get your asthma meds..my husband was in their with asthma…but he did say if the female guards dude gave them a hard time or broke up with them that they would be on lockdown for no reason just cuz she had men problems…..

    @ tabitha i co-sign……

  • Gimme a break

Please everyone. This man was not paying child support, first of all, and obviously was abusing the prescription meds. It is very sad that he had to die but let’s spread the blame around. I am so sick and tired of black people trying to blame someone else for things that arise as a result of their own doing.

  • http://gallery.me.com/silkyj#100088 Txhustla15 (Austin’s Finest)

Heh hows this a result of his own doing and how is he abusing prescribed medicine ..heh do you know this accurately ? He was denied prescription medicine and if you know the nature and chemical reaction of this medicine and ones like this it causes a reaction or a withdrawal…hmm obviously indicated here as it lead his untimely and undeserved death. Irregardless of child support of whatever issue that he was in jail for this is called criminal negligence , as they were liable for his care. Despite whatever people are in jail for they deserve to be treated humanely , its in our laws that rule this country and this has nothing to do with race or black people blaming anything…thanks for playing though read a book..

    @ Roni…
    OUCH!!!!

    RIP, Sean.

  • always knew

Uh, I knew it! Another (BMD) Black man down..gem lost!….

  • sunshynz3001

I’ve never heard of someone dieing from Xanax. I’ve taken it in the past and can confirm it is highly addictive. I also went through withdrawal when I couldn’t get it. But I don’t think I was ever near death.

  • Roe ski Love

With the right Lawyer anything is possible. Unfortunatley he was in there for some astronomical amount of child support owed out. Life is full of cause and effect. If you live with the understanding of that. You will continue to always try to do the right thing, even at personal sacrifice.

  • leave-it-be

?????? WOOWWWWW I DIDN’T KNOW XANAX HAD SUCH SEVERE WITHDRAWAL SYMPTOMS????? GOTA BE SOMETHING ELSE HE WAS TAKING>>>>>>

  • Think Twice

I hear ya txhustla!!! Are you serious people?? You dont have to take massive doses of this med or other ones like it to go through withdrawls. I unfortunately went to jail and didnt have mine and they called my pharmacy and got my meds and I got mine right before I left and all of this was done within 4 hours. Anxiety disorders are nothing to play with, it is just too bad that the people who really have an issue with it get lumped in with the abusers. SMH
