Rihanna was spotted yesterday in NYC sportin’ her new dog which is her latest fashion accessory. Ever since Rihanna dumped the Beyonce clone weave and steez, we have been feelin’ her look. She may not deserve any props for those cheesy songs, but you have to co-sign her swag.

Have you noticed that riri always has to be half naked now when you see her.. I checked out the new video and what does lying in a bed half naked got to do with the song? nothing, but as usual she is selling her self short and now she is using a dog to get more publicity. Her teams calls the photogs when she goes places so she can get more coverage besides bad reviews.

I agree with Usherwifey to a certain extent. Rihanna, is more of a fashion icon (now)because of her Fashion Stylist – and that is the extent of her deserved fame. However, she is not a talented singer. Where I disagree is with some of the names she put on the list as having no talent. First off, you can not put Beyonce in the list. She is the only female that is out right now that can dance extremely hard and hit her notes without running out of breath. I would say Beyonce had a talent that was able to be developed. I would also put Keisha Coles in that group. She had a talent that was able to be developed, and Mary J. Blige belong to the group as well. Now, you do have singers that bring a look and/or dance that allows them to flourish in the music business such as Ashanti, J. Lo, Janet Jackson, Rihanna, Britney Spears, Ciara, etc.
Here is a list of talent that people don’t check for (WHY????):

I co-sign with you. Beyonce is in a cl***** of her own right now. There are not as many ‘true performers’ out there anymore. The singers you named are very good singers but unfortunately the don’t have the complete package. Whether the people want to accept it or not it is a business. You have to market yourself and beyonce knows how to do that. If you take all the makeup, gold, and glitter away she still has what got her the record deal to begin with TALENT. She can sing, period, everything else is just extra.
AND… another thing, this is called the music industry for a reason. People can question her looks, swagger, hair, and dance moves but you can’t question her vocals. Named three people in the game right now who can outsing Beyonce? The only person in my opinion that can give her a run for her money is Jennifer Hudson but the verdict is still out on her career. Like I said you have to have the ‘total package.’
Bah. Celebrity is all about image. Image and talent go hand in hand. You can’t have one without the other. Rhi isn’t very talented but as long as she can hold a note and record catchy tunes she has talent. I liken pop tart singers to pop-artists Like Warhol, Duchamp, Jeff Koons et al who’s image/celebrity sells their work more than their actual talent.
Those who excel understand this. Style should never be discounted as being of little importance because without it you most likely wouldn’t have taken note.
Same could be applied to real world situations. In each business there is both a dress code and corresponding conduct policy. These lie outside the realm of job duties but they are just as important. Why do you think the intangibles such as networking is so important. A great resume is one thing but knowing someone can be even more valuable. To have both means being a very dynamic person.

I agree some what, but I like to hear singing, and to see performing as well. I don’t need to see an extremely beautiful woman to get the point of the song. I would like there to be more performance and singing talent rather than what you look like, and holding a notes that the average person on the street can do. To be honest, I think the ladies I mentioned before have the it factor, but are totally marketed wrong. Tamia is not old. She is still in her 20s. So, we can’t say it’s an age thang for her. I am just sick of hearing the bubble gum artists when it comes to the African American females. We were brought up on singers such as Patti Labelle, Regina Belle, Teena Marie, Chaka Kahn, Phyllis Hyman, SADE, and the list goes on….

She was introduced by Qunciy Jones therefore she has that *****ociation with that contemporary style of R&B (despite trying to offer up some pop records). It’s like LL and Jay-Z. Though they are around the same age LL sound will always be *****ociated with the golden era of rap–thus he’ll be seen as an oldschooler. Though I guess at this point Jay is starting to become part of a transition himself with rappers like TI and Kanye emerging.
While you simpletons are sitting around yakking on Bossip and throwing darts, Rhi Rhi is making mad money and living the glamorous life. Agreeably, she might not be the strongest singer or dancer, but she’s got something that folks are buying and I for one am glad for that young Bajan gal!!

Of course we would like to hear good singing over pretty girl but would you go to a beyonce concert if she came out with pjs on, no makeup, and her hair in rollers? NO, you wouldn’t and neither would I. You have to have it all. The singers have to look the part and above all the public has to like them. Let us not forget that the people who buy cds, concert tickets, and artist paraphernalia in general are the ones who made them. Beyonce, as much as I love her, ain’t ***** if we don’t support her. Jill Scott gave one of the best concerts I have ever seen in my life. Whitney Houston sang so GREAT that it brought tears to my eyes…Tamia has such a great presence that you can’t take your eyes off of her….

No you missed my whole point. Image is important, but not everything. Neither Whitney, nor Jill Scott or any of the other singers, good or bad, have come out looking like that b/c they know they have an image to uphold. That was my point. I agree with you except to say that if you don’t have some kind of image then you won’t get the props you deserve. Sex has been selling since the beginning of time. Anita Baker, Tina Turner, Patti, etc all came out wear sexy outfits and sung about sex in their songs. Granted their version of sexy and ours is different but the concept is still the same. Sex does sell and it always will until WE the public COLLECTIVELY demand something different.

Anita always wore something simple (usually black) and even turtle necks. Anita was mostly known for her healthy short hairstyles and voice if you are basing on image. Tina Turner was well known for her voice and moves…and as she progressed in age; her legs were her *****et (image as you would say)…So sex was not the major reason for their success. People were not talking about their buttocks’ and complexions, and their skimpy outfits. They were talking about their talent!

Sex appeal is seeing something (not neccessarily your butt, or *****… it could be your eyes) sexually attractive leaving the mind to imagine the sexiness in a being… SELLING SEX is saying, Pay for the Booty and you can get it…. it is a great difference. I agree. But neither Tina nor Anita were dressed like that ALL OF THE TIME. I remember seeing a video of Anita in a short black dress straddling a chair. You can’t tell me that’s not sex appeal. Everyone uses it but some have to rely on it more than others b/c they can’t really sing. I also agree that Patti has a great voice but she still dress provocatively. Have you seen the footage for Lady Marmalade. Patti along with the other ladies in the group had on skimpy clothes. I also agree that TRUE TALENT doesn’t need to dress like that, which is one of the reasons Beyonce does disappoint me with her outfits. Girl can sing she doesn’t need to be on the floor shaking her *****, but she is an adult. She makes her own choices and despite me not liking some of her outfits I continue to buy her albums and go to concerts.
Let riri continue to be who she is cause no one is buying it anyway, all the bad reviews are killing her sales she just sold only $16,516 dropped down to #48 or #50 already on the billboard chart so someone is getting tired of her butt besides us.

There is still some hope for the music business because here it is this chick had this mega hit song and she still has had the poorest sales for the caliber of the song, the song alone should have sold her CD but by it being her no one is really taking her serious because they know she can’t sing and her touring only poured salt on the open sore (her vocals).

just compare tlc of the 90’s to the destiny child (beyonce) and her back up singers of today. the former group were highly successful, yet their wardbrobe usually consisted of extremely baggy clothes. tlc were still sexy regardless, and sold millions of albums.

I disagree, Beyonce CAN sing, no doubt! She blew on “Listen” from Dreamgirls (i think working with Jhud really pushed her vocally) and a few years back, she blew singing the National Anthem (which we all know isn’t the easiest thing to get right)…*thinking of Keisha Cole’s horrendous version on the NFL opening night. Granted B sings a lot of pop/R&B that doesn’t allow her to really showcase her voice, but be fair, she CAN sing.

AND… another thing, this is called the music industry for a reason. People can question her looks, swagger, hair, and dance moves but you can’t question her vocals.
