This is the same sad tale of Negro worship of the "tragic mulatto." Simmons is tragic in the sense that she is beautiful yet she is ho-ish, money-grubbing and has absolutely no class. The smooth, ebony-colored Hounsou, in his own self-hate, froths at the mouth over the "light-skint-ted" Simmons in the same way many brothers salivate over white women. And Simmons, like many white women, is drawn to a "primal black buck" like Hounsou. Though it's 2007, it might as well be 1927.(Where's Countee Cullen when you need him?) Hell, the real victim in this is Russell Simmons...now what does this say about HIS work? I'd have to hop on my def-plane with a paper bag over my head and get the def outta here.
