We receive tip emails asking what the artist are wearing all the time. On Saturdays we will break down exactly who styles them. Today we will start with Melody Ehsani:

What do Rihanna, Keri Hilson, Erykah Badu and Alicia Keys have in common… accessories made by Meloday Ehsani. Though a seasoned vet in ladies feet fashion, Melody is quickly becoming the rookie of the year when it comes to accessories design. In order to gather some intel on the method to Melody’s madness, Persona caught up with the young designer for this Saturday style exclusive!

Persona Magazine- So how did you start making Jewelry?

Melody Ehsani- Just about a year ago. I got my start in designing women’s shoes but I was asked by a friend of mines (Saul Williams) to do some design work for his album cover. I got a chance to do the photography, fashion and accessories design for that whole project so that’s where I got my start with jewelry.

Interview continued here…

She also designs rings you see Nas, Bilal, and Angela Simmons rockin. Her shoes have been in the game for a while.

Pictures below of celebrities sporting her accessories… and sisters, she has some bad ass Mother Land earrings that look crazy…

  • Manhattan

So I checked out her website & was NOT impressed! Here in NY you could find flyer less costly earrings at Girl Props. Or find handmade one of a kind pieces down in SoHo, NoLita or the Village.

  • Brazil Baby

    i’m tired of this chick

  • BlackLADYDoctor

Reminds me of the Madonna gawdy like a virgin overkill fad. Then again, I’m conservative when it comes to accessorizing’ myself. I don’t like brand names showing and I would never wear jewelry with my name, some celebrites name, or a slogan.

    @Female Boss,

My post was not to dissuade anyone from purchasing from this Melody chick. I’m simply trying to get black folks to understand who their money is going to & who is prospering from our money.

Before making judgment I decided to check out her website & blog & I must say this…I’m still NOT impressed! It’s great that she has your support but from where I sit there are faaaar more talented BLACK artists more deserving of shine than this Persian chick who used her parents law school money & her connections in the industry to land her where she is today.

    Unfortunately the sista I purchase my beautiful hand made one of a kind Opal & Emerald necklace from can’t get that same shine because as she tells it all her money goes into the precious stones used to make her wearable art. or the other sista who was featured in ESSENCE magazine for her stunning jewelry 2 yrs ago is still out in inclement weather peddling her jewels because the magazine article could not generate enough buzz to get black women to support her craft! I was told blacks like to complain about not having “choices” but when given the opportunity to support their own they’d rather spend their money on designs made by people not familiar with the black experience!! {Persian included}

So before you get comfortable up on your high horse “Female Boss” you better dig deeper.

  • Manhattan

Stop making other people rich off of designs we {black people} made famous!

  • Surprised

nobody talked about her forehead. its always the butt of the forum.

  • She cant sing

    but your name is manhattan!!!

  • She cant sing

    lol

Manhattan…..Before I get started I’m so glad you replied. I respect and hear everything your saying. First your friends jewelry might be very beautiful and nice. But here is the issue in business not race. In business you have to know how to promote yourself. Second, Learn How to make your wonderful product available to the masses. You don’t get jealous of what the next person is doing you want to put your energy in making a plan. See the problem is this, all the energy your friend is putting into worrying about someones race and personal upbringing is clouding her blessings.

Maybe if you told everybody where we could actually see the product we could make a choice ourselves. Seeing that you didn’t mention where we could see the product and went out of your way to point out race and other miscellaneous fact like how a person is brought up as if it’s their fault that their parents planned to have them and put them through school. That’s what parents are supposed to do my sister.

We as black people need not point out everything about other races upbringing. Our real argument should be with our own race not doing the same. Maybe the girl should ask her parents why didn’t you put me through school and help me with my passion and dreams.

I would have respected everything that you said and still agree with some of your points. But I will never be a supporter of racism because my whole life has been clouded indirectly by it.

If Carol’s Daughter (CarolsDaughter.com) said “(www.Kiehls.com) is wack why do black people use that and not my stuff. It’s better anyway”.She wouldn’t have made a dime But since she put her energy into her product the universe blessed her.

Seeing that your so passionate about your friends jewelry maybe you should help her promote and raise money for her products and go around and find some investors who want to support her line.

I hate to break the news to you but urban culture has been exploited and stolen since the slaves ships but you can’t fight the world with hate. You must position yourself and arrive quietly. This is true with anything you want to take control of. Take notes and make your moves and study the game don’t fight the game.

We need to let go of the crutch of racism and hate. Alot of africians have persian ancestry so it’s not like she’s white my sister and even if she was and had swag I still would by her stuff because some of my favorite people wear it.

So if your girls stuff is hot ,and the work speaks for itself. I would be more then happy to buy it.

But until then scrape up the info so I can actually see your friends product,do some history research about Persians and Africans, and shut the hell up about race and family upbringing cause that’s not business.

When we as black woman embrace some of the principle’s that other races have and learn proper business etiquette from people like Oprah,Jada Pinkett-Smith,Kimora Lee Simmons,Beyonce, etc.

We will be a lot better off. When you make statements about business to discredit someone based on race you look and sound like a dumb, dizzy bitter black woman, you might as well roll with Sarah Palin.

” Peace to the believers of Dr. King’s Dream”.

  • Manhattan

    @ Female Boss

1st you obviously understand the intent in my original post, so I find your rebuttal a bit confusing – how you as a BLACK WOMAN have a connection to another race is strange. Last time I checked Persians were not considered BLACK honey.

Blacks are too accepting of other races! These same races come to this country & disrespect the average black person & will call you a monkeys & nigger with no problem.

2nd} How is a newbie in the industry going to make money if they don’t already have money? I’m sure if home girls parents were still alive they’d probably help support her dream but for now she is still in her grinding stage

BTW She can be located on McDougal & Broadway in SoHo. When i get to my desk at work I’d be more than happy to forward her contact info for all to see.

This Melodie chick does NOT have ingenuity all she had were RICH PARENTS that allowed her to manipulate the real natural talents she had around her {black friends} & make money off the backs of the URBAN MARKET!!!

$200 for some crappy bedazzled door knockers?!! She must’ve bumped her head!! Who you think wearing that cheap crap? who you think she’s marketing that phony merchandise to?…BLACK FOLKS- that’s who!

  • Manhattan

And black folks are the ones who’ll go out & buy that over priced garbage & black folks will continue to make “others” rich all while secretly wishing we wouldn’t wear their ish like Tommy Hilfiger & Ralph Lauren.

Just look at the way Louis Vuitton treated T.I’s black ass!!!

  • She cant sing

Does Beyonce sit at the forefront of peoples mind in the morning? Yall trip me out. Put her in the list of other contenders in the 80′s and 90′s(ie, Mariah, Whitney, hell even Pebbles) and she would NOT stand out. Beyonce only stands out now b/c everyone out right now cannot sing WHATSOEVER…The people who love Beyonce must be born a fag or born 1989 and thereafter because this is all the talent you know of lol…

  • http://melodyehsaniseesyou.com Shye

This is to MANHATTAN, unfortunaly this comment is very late but this is just in case you come back to this page and for other haters with the same opinion as you. Everyone is entitled to their opinion but I think it’s great to supprort people who share the same race, ethnicity, or culture as you but it’s another when you try to knock someone else doing there thing.
She’s not taking anything away from the other designers that you mentionaed. There’s room for everyone, black or persian. It’s sad that you had to make it a race issue and obviously you didn’t look at her pages closely enough, from her two myspace pages, to her store page, and mainly to her personal blog page: melodyehsaniseesyou.com. Because if you had then you would see that not only is she successful, she’s also a very humble, positive, and inspiring person. It’s not about race for her, if anything it’s about the human race and sisterhood for her. And sisterhood does not only include one race. it seems as though you have a chip on your shoulder. She’s successful but a good person on top. At least she’s not another Paris Hilton. It doesnt matter where she got the money from to start the business. How do you know that the money came from her parents? And even if it did, she has to hustle to make it happen. Don’t assume, you know what they say about assuming. As a black woman, you should be proud to come from a culture that influences everyone and that the world is in love with. You have the right to have a problem with black exploitation and that is what america is all about. But maybe you should think about it next time you buy a cd, eat McDonalds, and etc. In those situations and corporations the poeple running them, fatten their pockets by exploiting the beautiful black culture and vast talents but most of them probably don’t even like the culture or the people themselves. I don’t want to assume but I’m pretty sure of it. At least she is a good person, who has friends of all races, including black, and is influenced by the culture, and expresses herself with a culture she has most likely adopted and is apart of, whether you like it or not. Everyone in hip hop and america is rocking the arabic scarfs right now, you don’t see us hating on it. It’s an honor and I love to see other races appreciating something that is influenced by where I come from. Be happy and be happy for others. Divide does not help anyone. Isn’t that why African Americans before you fought with their lives for the end of segregation. Come on, open your eyes, and learn to love. Stop hating especially over race. Do you and stop knocking someone else who is.
