Everyone’s favorite odd couple, Usher and his new wife Tameka Foster appear on the cover of the November issue of Essence magazine and discuss their “love for each other”. Via Essence.com:
Usher on how the media and bloggers reacted negatively to the news of his engagement to Tameka Foster:
“It was like, wow. (Getting married) and having a child is something that everyone should celebrate. What’s happened to us as a culture and a people? I’m not ignorant, so I’m not going to go out there and lash out….”
Usher on how he and Tameka have stayed strong:
“Ours is not a typical love story, but it is a true one. Tameka and I have been fortunate enough to go through the thick of it in the beginning. We’ve had that opportunity to huddle up as a team, to make sure that we’re clear and speak as one voice.”
Tameka on when she knew to trust her instincts, instead of her girlfriends, about starting a relationship with her future husband:
“Thank God I didn’t listen to my girlfriends…. Usher was my road dawg. I’d seen him love, and I’d watched him date women who were not worthy of him. He was so sweet, going out of his way to cater to their every need. And I’d see them not even be grateful.”
Usher on what he’s learned about becoming a father:
“Tameka’s given me one of the greatest gifts I’ll ever have. With a child, now I have purpose. I understand love.”
Tameka on falling for her husband:
“I feel totally uninhibited with Usher. I’ve never been in a situation with anyone, even as far back as high school, where there were no secrets. I know I can tell him anything and he’s not going to judge me. I can finally share my dreams. And because of that, I know that man loves me.”
Aww, doesn’t that just sound so dreamy. There’s still something that seems a little fishy with these two. Love is a beautiful thing, but damn, they sound like puppets. They can not possibly go the whole interview without discussing the beef with Usher’s mom. We’ll just have to pick up that issue to find out…

Sorry dear, but I cant cosign on that. Has the standard been set so low that we will accept anything? He could have found someone who wasnt married with children. Correct me if I am wrong but didnt she leave her husband for Usher? Arent Usher and his mother now estranged because of this relationship? Shouldnt she be focusing on her children instead of starting another family with a man so much younger than her? She should have allowed him to find a relationship with someone around his age, with no children, so he could start a family. And perhaps, just perhaps. he should, while he is still young, be focusing on his music career. He will not be able to be “Usher” forever.
They both need to stop it. what I got out of that WHOLE INTERVIEW SNIPPET is that Tameka watched Usher in relationships with other women and she was jealous and envious. She was probably the MAIN one trying to make him believe that Chili and others weren’t worthy of him and she was. Also, she is acting like this is her first child. EEK -MEEK what about the other kids you have?!?!?!?! While Usher is grateful of the fact EEK-MEEK is giving him a child, he should be leery of how she just dropped the ball with the other kids she has. The saga continues……

How is it that Tameka Foster has become a representative of sorts for “real black women”? So having a police record for theft and welfare fraud, being divorced with three kids and a fourth child conceived out of wedlock from a man whose mother doesn’t even approve of the union…is that a “real black woman”? pfffft.
Maybe it’s not that people are “hating”, it’s that people are facing the facts which at this point are stacked against Ushmeka.

What do you mean Chilli did not appreciate? From what I heard it was Usher who did not appreciate a good woman. What is there to appreciate about a man who cheats on you? Usher displayed digusting behaviour, he could have gave Chilli HIV. Chilli was rich, she did not need material things to keep her happy. I would think that when she was with Usher all she wanted was love. He was not capable of doing just that, so she cut him loose to find somebody that will appreciate her. No I disagree with what you and MANeka stated. It was Usher who did not appreciate and was not worthy. Ok girl I feel you. However no one should be dogging anyone for dating/marrying inter-racially. Thats just brainless.
But lets be real, age disparities dont contribute positivelly to the longiveity of marriages, having be married previously doesnt contribute to it, having children doesnt contribute to it, and when relationships contribute to strained relationships between your family and your spouse, that just adds extra stress. So from the beginning, they have an uphill battle.
Now you are probably saying, well they are in it together, they should work to make it work. However, why put yourself through it, love is part and not the whole of mature relationships. Love can create enemies too you know.
I just think that if he really wanted a wife and a family, he should have chosen someone without the baggage. He is too young for all that.

Actually I am a black african woman dating a black american man. People make it seem like there’s an epidemic of black man & non-black woman – what celebrities do doesn’t represent or speak for a whole race of people. What about the regular, non-famous folk? I personally know (and see) A LOT of black woman-black man couplesin my everyday life. Regardless, neither scenario bothers me. It must be a cultural thing. Also, every race has kids out of wedlock – why is this just a Black american thing? YTs do it too.
I get the argument and understand what you are both saying -but really -there are lots of great Black men who value great Black women. Let’s hope they all find each other.
Those comments aboout “Mama knows best” need to stop. Mama does not always know best. Like someone said, it is woefully common for a man’s mama to dislike his wife. In fact, that happens in 8 out of 10 marriages. For some reason, mothers of sons have a very hard time with their sons getting married in a way that mothers of daughters don’t. Mothers of sons seem to think no one is good enough for their son, while mothers of daughters rarely seem to feel that way about their son in law. You rarely hear of in law friction that involves a son and his wife’s mother and that is because mothers of sons like to meddle and can’t stay out of their son and daughter in law’s business.
Now, do I think ‘Meka is suspect as hell? Yes. Would I want her marrying my son, if I had one? No, but that is because of her lack of character and just general shystiness.
And just because a man’s mama does not like his wife, does not mean it is doomed. Like I said, that happens ALL the time.

Black love is a beautiful love when shared between a man and a woman. Tameka has many issues that as a mother I too would question. She stood around while according to her he dated many woman that did not appreciate him. So she appreciates him more then his past girlfriends. Let’s be for real she waited by the side line planning her next move or creeping with him on the side while he dated these other woman. Tameka, lacks substance and character and should be ashame of herself for trapping him. Although, I’m happy that he decided to marry his baby mama, but on what terms. Correct me if I am wrong but didnt she leave her husband for Usher? Arent Usher and his mother now estranged because of this relationship? Shouldnt she be focusing on her children instead of starting another family with a man so much younger than her? She should have allowed him to find a relationship with someone around his age, with no children, so he could start a family. Black women ALWAYS complain when a brother dates/marries a biracial women, spanish women, asian women, indian women, white woman, but as soon as he marries a “REAL”, black woman (meaning coarse hair, full lips, brown skin, etc) everyone dogs him out so bad. I didn’t write about the how black women get upset about marrying outside of their race-I was talking about how most moms have issues with their son’s wives.
My analysis:
1. She was unable to see through her last marriage even with the amount of kids she has and that shows lack of commitment and for better or worse…and has now moved onto a second one…how can this marriage possibly stand the test of time
2. Usher is an old fashioned guy and has probably married her because he got her preggers and out of principles would ideally like to be married to the mother of his kid
3. Usher places too much emphasis on his kid, I think he is in love with the whole idea of having a child.
4. Tameka has done well to draw usher in when he was at his most vulnerable stages in his life…relationship problems and etc. She knew what she was doing and has now provided a child for him and that will her security…if anything goes wrong…divorce etc…she will get dough because of that child…look at what happened to paul mcartney

How would you feel about the fact that the whole world seems to know that your mother/wife left the family for an entertainer? Usher’s age has nothing to do with it. I’m a friend of Usher. Well use to be a friend of Usher. I don’t think anyone is hating on Ush. Ush has the ego the size of a watermelon so he likes to prove himself to everyone. I have an opinion I’d like to share. Black people are some mentally mangled people. Especially sisters. We’ll dog anything, put down anything and anybody to make ourselves feel better. I think Michael Jackson (yeah, Michael is done now, but he lasted far beyond the shunning glares and pointing fingers of american disapprovers (there, there’s a word besides haters for you) and proved American disproval isn’t the end of an artists stardom, as have boyz II men and other so-called “played out” artists, all who over seas enjoying royalties! We are some self-centered people. We think we’re single handedly responsible for the rise and fall of everything and everyone! Get over yourselves! The only thing we ever uniformally runined was our image in the eyes of the world at large as a cultural group.
