    a damn shame….seperation continues.

    I guess they’ll use the paper bag affect to get in.

    No one should go to this party. :(

  2. Anonymous3

    when I saw this I almost threw up….you are right elle…more separation…at first “master” did it because the lighter skinned blacks were thought to be more docile therefore they could work in the “Big House”….now we are still pereptuating this absolute nonsense that lighter skinned means closer to white which means better than their darker skinned counterpart….what a travesity

  3. tx boi

    the dude who does these events also throws..dark skinned night and caramel nights..he was defendin himself on another blog (media_take_out)

  4. Anonymous3

    ^^^ I still feel that it breeds separation….why have a dark skinned night or caramel night and then those who don’t fit the bill have to pay??? it is totally cl*****less…..

  5. elle

    I still don’t like it.

    I’m sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo tired of us being seperated. :(

  6. AvSad Shame

    the “dude” who does “these” parties has major issues!!!!

  7. detroit

    aww hell naw!!! the dude organizing needs to be put in shackles and leg irons. i used to get so tired of this shyt growing up. When I was about 12 I went to a camp with a bunch of privileged white kids and they were like..”what’s the difference… you all look black to us!”

  8. DEEDY F.

    I TOTALLY AGREE…..THIS IS THA STUPITEST THEME FOR A PARTY I EVER HEARD OF. I WOULD NOT ATTEND THIS PARTY, ME BEING A DARK SKIN WOMAN. I WOULDN’T EVEN ATTEND THIS CLUB EVEN ON DARK WOMEN NITE!!!!!

  9. Starrynight

    Bossip is late as usually. Mediataekout already posted the story which had 400 post. Out of all the post 2 made coonish remarks. And they pounced all on that *****, cause they didn’t have shyt else to say after that. It shows the vast maturity between bossip and MTO. Hate is so ugly, so stop it.

  10. brownbarbie

    OK. Um … this is what I was gonna say. OK. No, wait. I think I’ll say this … um… hmmm… No, that won’t work. Um, OK. Never mind.

  11. N*ggerish ish.

    ‘This is some bull***** for real,That’s all I got to say. SMDH

  13. K

    The party has been cancelled by the promoter due to public pressure…thank goodness… he got put on BLAST!!! Ignant *****!!

  14. Oreo Cookie Willie

    Not quite light enough for my standards, but i like the attitude and effort. – 3 1/2 Oreos out of 5

  15. La Dominadora

    Why not also have the fine-toothed comb test at the door? If your hair is not straight enough to run a fine tooth comb thru your azz aint getting in. They used to have a blind Creole lady stationed at the door at some dive in Louisiana who would run her fingers through patron’s hair and if it wasn’t silky enough then their black azzes were turned away.

  16. Anonymous3

    Oreo Cookie Willie

    I think you make a wrong turn on the informationa super highway…I think you meant to make a left at TMZ.com…the F outta here!!!

  17. Ms. Thang

    Boy I wish I had went to that party and they turned me away. I’d call up Al Sharpton. Where is he when you need him?

  18. it's me

    This flyer is ridiculous on so many levels. It’s sad that some of us still suffer from the slave mentality. So who sets the standard for who is light enough to be considered “light-skinned” and get in free? PUHleeze!!!!

  19. That was in the news yesterday. They cancelled the event. There’s a story about in a Detroit newspaper. I’m busy at the moment and can’t supply the link. Sorry. When I first saw this, I was floored.

  20. Anonymous3

    Below are some comments from the promoter about the party and thank goodness it was cancelled.

    “I made a mistake,” Barnes said. “I didn’t think there would be a backlash.”

    Barnes, who said he’s been a party promoter for six years, canceled the event.

    He said he has gotten angry calls and e-mails from around the country about the party.

    “I didn’t mean to offend anyone,” he said. “I had planned a party for other shades (of black women). We were going to take a shade of color each week. Next week was going to be a party for ‘Sexy Chocolate’ and the week after that ‘Sexy Caramel.’ ”

  21. elle

    well have one called

    “Chocolate Candies”

    “…Milk Chocolate, Caramel & Almond all desired”

    stop seperating us…….:(

  22. ThatTouchOfPink

    This ish WOULD be in tha ‘D’

  23. gorgeous chocolate pixie

    wow….this is really stupid i must say.. I really thought this was a joke, i guess there is still ignorance out there, so what happens if your in between light and dark do you have to pay half admission?? hummm thats one to ponder!!! NO ONE SHOULD ATTEND THIS CRAP>? light dark, purple green we are all equal!!! and we are all GOD’s BEAUTIFULLLLL CREATIONs cant he panel say AMENNNNN!!!

  24. Pure AI–agrravated ignorance.

  25. I guess SCHOOL DAZE isn’t over!

  26. I LIVE IN DETROIT AND WE HAVE ENOUGH VITAL ISSUES GOING ON. IS THIS MAN FROM MARS. I AM SORRY HE IS TOO DUMB TO LIVE.

  27. Wow

    Utter ignorance…BLACK IS BLACK!!!

    This why most of us try “Sumthin’ New”…..This has to be some stupid ***** party hosted on the east coast…wow.

  28. hiscrack

    So this is what Derek Jeter is doing since Yankees were pounced out of the playoffs. Leave it to him to hold a Light Skinned party. NO women like India Arie or Angie Stone allowed.

  29. Seghana

    you wrong for that pic sugar walls….lol

  30. LA CHICA BEYOUNCITA KNOWLITA

    Ok,

    has anyone been to Detroit?

    That city is an urban decay. You have some decent parts, but in all Detroit is wasteland.

    Maybe these people should be looking at ways to revitalize the city as it affects ALL black people, not just light or dark.

    When will black people grow up and worry about *****e that affect their lives instead of dwelling of the abstract, oppressive ideology of the Slave Master?

    The way I see it, people in Detroit shouldn’t be partying ever, not with their *****ing streets looking like Baghdad 2.0!

    We can blame the white man for physical slavery, but we sure make it easy for him to win at mental slavery!

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Baby Please
    That was in the news yesterday. They cancelled the event. There’s a story about in a Detroit newspaper. I’m busy at the moment and can’t supply the link. Sorry. When I first saw this, I was floored.
  31. me
    wow…i’m almost ashamed to be from detroit after seeing that hot ***** mess. who in the hell thought that would ever work. i’m glad the party got cancelled. that is just pure ignorance and speaks volumes about our culture. smh
  32. ThatTouchOfPink
    It’s a trip though – I’m from Detroit, and I have travelled many to many different places. . .
    Detroit gets a REALLY bad rap…I think Detroit is always used as a scape goat for other cities to look down at. I have seen much worse areas and cities in my travels. Yet Detroit is always thrown out there as the worst of the worst. not to day we don’t have our fair share of problems cause Lord knows we do.
    There are many issues that need to be worked out. But
    my perspective allows me to see beyond this, and see the positive aspects a little clearer than most.
    Maybe I am biased because I grew up in Detroit before moving to Seattle, and I will always be a Detroit local at heart.
    I don’t want to turn this into a pro/anti Detroit debate, but as some one who lived in the city for 26 years, and having been in and around ALL parts of it, not just as a TV viewer, or a traveller, I HAVE to say my piece any time Detroit is discussed in my presence.
  33. ThatTouchOfPink
    sorry for the typos . . .and yes, the flyer is ludicrous, immature, and derrogatory in it’s nature.
    It makes me furious that this mentality would still be in people’s minds, let alone used as the theme for a party
  34. Emerson
    For over ten years I lived in Toronto, one of the most racially diverse cities in the world. And I can tell you from personal experience that every non-white race of people do the very same thing, only they don’t publicize it. Chinese, Fillipino, East Indians, Hispanics, as well as folks of African descent, are some of the most racially conscience you will ever meet’ all based on the skin tone of people in their own groups. Oriental people encourage their children to marry white so that their offspring will be fair complexioned. Fillipino and hispanics do the same thing. The lighter you are in these asian groups the more attractive you are considered to be. Hispanics are also notorious far ranking each other based on skin tone. For hispanics, the fairer and closer who are to caucasion the better. All of these people of color should know better, but they prefer to hold on the the european standards of beauty over their own natural looks. I have talked to many of these folks and they always want to blame colonialism, but when you point out that they era of the west colonizing their lands ended generations ago, they get very defensive about it. The fact remains that we are no different from these other peoples when it comes to having being brainwashed, so we should not be too alarmed about it thinking we are the only ones who think this way, but we are wrong, they all do. That doesn’t make it better only true.
  35. Oreo Cookie Willie
    Cancelled!?! This is an outrage! This is just another insideous ploy by evil dark complected powers that be to undermine the advancement of the under-represented and down-troddend mulatto people.
    This must stop!
  36. marie
    So, now I quess we don’t have to wonder why other races continue to discrimate against us. WE’RE THE BEST AT DOIN’ IT TO OURSELVES!! For anyone to support that they absolutely have no self-concept of who they are and plain ***** ignorant!!!
  37. i was already tripped out upon seein this flyer….but i got down 2 the part about it being held in detroit and i damn near lost it. it’s just sad 2 see that there are black folks in my local midst promoting this ignorance. smh….and another thing, who the hell determines WHAT’S light skinned??? i’m happy 2 hear it got cancelled as though. it just had trouble written all over it. as someone has stated already, there are many races with this “light is better” complex. that just shows that WHITE ppl have collectively *****ed up every race. yes, they’ve done the damage but it’s up to the minorities 2 recover. this “white is right” mentality is sooo damn sad.
  38. me
    We all going to hell
  39. catfish
    Agree with Emerson. All non whites do this. White represents power.
    People on this board do the same thing when they “celebrate” RiRi dating some white dude. You would think Jesus returned by all the joy and elation.
  40. Selena
    I am sorry to admit that Emerson is right. I am hispanic and I know people who will only date white people. Many Puerto Rican women were upset when Ben Affleck dumped JLO. It’s true. Latinos think that white automatically means beauty and power.
  41. Leon
    Marie I must tell you that most of the other races discriminate against us because of our behavior. The constant criminality of our young men going in and out of prisons, our refusal to take personal responsibility for our lives and constantly blaming others, as well as our reluctance not to study in school and get good grades to improve ourselves makes others want to distance themselves from us. Things will change when we change. I work with native children and they always tell me that their parents tell them not to be like the black kids. Their parents tell them to be and act like smart white people that way they will build a place for themselves in the world.
  42. David
    The obssession with skin tone began in the East long before the Europeans even set foot in that half of the world. Back then the darkness of your skin determined your standing in life as a peasant (poor) or a landowner(rich). The people with land did not work their fields, but hired the poor to grow and harvest their crops. These people were further darken by the sun and so were presented to the world as poor and landless. The land owners were free to pursue study, culture and business, the professions that did not require them to earn a living by the sweat of their brows. They were the elitist and their paler skin tone announced to the world that they had money and stature and were socially above their darker, uncultured brethern. That is how it started as skin tone reflecting your econimic standing in life, and it has not changed significantly since then. When you change your economics you change where you are in the world. Don’t bother so much about how others see you because it is much more important how you see yourself. If you remain poverty-stricken, uneducated and at the bottom of the social ladder, people everywhere will scramble to get away from you. Do you know that in the bible there is a verse that says, and I am paraphrasing here, that no one wants to see a poor man coming his way. This verse was written over 2000 years ago and people still feel that way. As fare as other groups of races being afflicted with this color stuck mentality, yeah, it’s all true. I have witnessed it countless of times myself, especially when I see orientals and hispanics walking down the street in the summertimes with big, old umbrella’s to keep the sun out of their faces.
  43. BigJim
    GOTCHA ladies GOTCHA!!!!
    Not living up to someone else’s standards I wonder what that feels like?
    Black women reject or choose Black men based on things a lot more superficial than skintone and we have to deal with it so “WOMAN UP” Sistas and quit whinning. You’re breaking my heart. Not!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  44. Amani
    Dam my B-day tomorrow and I would not attend no ***** like this talking aboot light skin only and Libras. Dam Detroit don’t make us look bad like that geeezzz!
  45. nahnah
    this “white is right” mentality is sooo damn sad.
    ————————————————–
    and so damn accepted (subconsciously) by the average black person.
  46. nahnah
    btw, it seems like the guy simply ran out of party themes and did something stupid. i don’t think he deserves to be crucified, just corrected.
    we have more important things to worry about such as black women and the obsession with european weaves. it may sound trivial, but hair matters.
  47. Bella
    Black people aren’t the only people with these issues. If any of you get on a predominately white blog you will see that white people poke fun of other whites that are extremely pale; eg. Dita Von Tease, Kirsten Dunst, and Kelly Osbourne. So please stop acting like this is a black only, slave mentality issue.
  48. TripleXXX
    Selena:
    You’re so right. I read some of the posts here where white is put on high and dark is blasted. With that type of encouragement parties like this were bound to come. What’s different from what this guy is doing and the many blogs here cheering any celeb who dates a white guy or gal and put down black men and women on a bunch of sterotypes? RiRi is cheered for dating white guys? How is that any less offensive. Argue as much as you want, but what goes around comes around.
  49. mzlynbkny
    That’s the dumbest thing I ever heard of a lightskinned party!!! That’s why we can’t get nowhere, too much sepratism, envy and greed amongst our own people. Bad enough were constantly discriminated against a noose here a noose there. It seem to be the norm now. They’re hanging them things up like curtains…….Get it together people!!!!!
  50. Dolla Bill
    This is very sad but this sort of thing still happens anyway. Most clubs are just subtle about it. In most cities like the D or wherever all the clubs do is simply make the bouncers and doormen screen out all of the “undesirables” such as blacks, latinos, poor people, ugly people, etc.
  51. hmm
    I read that the reason the lightskin blacks worked in the house was that they were the kids or related to the slave owner. So it was not beacuse they were considered more docile. I have never heard that claim before. They were simply family, hence the lighter skin.
  52. Triple XXX
    Dolla Bill
    I used to work for two clubs and you’re right we did screen. Though we never kicked anyone out because of looks (hey money is money) we did give special treatments to beautiful people. Beautiful women (usally blonds or light skinned blacks) usually had *****es cleared for them on the dance floor, they got at least one free drink. They were often not charged a cover, and were usually escorted to be around the band and allowed to dance on stage or the dias. They were allowed to stay for afterparties and even got free meals. The idea was that men really were the ones who shoved out the big bucks and men came to clubs to meet hot women, so the more hot women in a place and the longer they stayed the more men came. We would sometimes go out into the streets and bring in hot chicks. Like I said blonds, Eva Mendes/JLO type latinas, and light skinned blacks or light skinned mixed girls, and asians were the most in demand. I can’t remember in 5 years ever being directed to give special treatment to a dark skinned black woman, or dark skinned latina or dark skinned minority female minority ever. I always figured it was because I worked a white club. But now I wonder if you’re right and it is just a general unspoken understanding.
  53. Henry
    I work for a well read magazine and I can testify to the fact that light-skinned African American women, Light-skinned Hispanic women and lighter-skinned Asians women are all considered more desirable. By the people in their own race, as well as by the outside world. In asia, lighter skinned women are highly prized and fair skinned Asians are usually more educated and have more finacial resources than their darker counterparts. For dark skin people of all races to catch up they must pursue increased economic status in the world via higher education, otherwise, things will continue this way. Even i Europe light complexioned, black women are considered to be drop dead gorgeous.
  54. Brian
    Sitting around *****in about this ***** won’t change a thing because it happens in all groups. Dark skinned people will always have it harder unless they change there social ranking in life by getting the highest education possible. My very dark-skinned friend married a very light skinned woman from Columbia and the only reason he was accepted by her family is because he is a medical doctor making well over six figures. He bought her a big fancy house, looks after his family well, and his in-laws constantly brag about their son-in-law, the doctor. Education and economics is the key all over the world. As long as dark skin equals poor this is how it will be. I know that white folks are poor too, but let’s be honest about this even though it’s unfair, that white skin alone will save him from being considered physically unattractive. Nothing is fair in this world except death. Believe that.
  55. crest
    alot of you keep saying that a man should be ashamed for throwing this party but if you read the invite it says”randi aka ms. p.y.t.” so this party is thrown by the light skinned woman smiling on the invite she is the ignorant person who thought this was a good idea. the guy above me(big jim) is right black women do have to stop picking men by their looks or money and start choosing men by personality and you will find good men if thats what you really want but younger black women dont always really want that good man they want the challenge of trying to change a bad boy or cheater into a good man. i dont pick women by skin tone but i understand what he meant by “woman up” because men are called out all the time by women for choosing women for the wrong reason so women need to do the same thing to other women when they choose for shallow reasons.
  56. Triple XXX, Henry, and Brian – I think you’re all white folks. I’m a very attractive dark skinned black female – I’ve rarely been turned away based on skin complexion alone. I think you’re spewing your own preferences to the rest of us.
  57. Beautiful Blue Eyed Angel
    “The way I see it, people in Detroit shouldn’t be partying ever, not with their *****ing streets looking like Baghdad 2.0!”…
    Exactly!
    They needed to take the party to the streets with some brooms and trashbags..
    Lol@ Orea cookie Willie..2 funny…
  58. Mavis
    You know Val, I think what they said is the absolute truth, too many of us don’t like to hear the truth when we disagree with it. They speak from logic and what they all said makes sense to me, you speak from emotion something we need to stop doing.I’m very dark and I have experience it.
  59. Jerome
    These folks sound intellegent and know history and they aren’t ranting and raving about racism I wonder if that’s why Val thinks they aren’t black. What they said really makes you think though.
  60. Triple XXX
    Val
    I’m black. I say we didn’t turn anyone away. The club wants the money. I’m saying behind the scenes light skins and blondes got different and better treatment. I agree with Brian, we have to make a new reality.
  61. Bella
    Didn’t they have a party for dark-skinned and caramel skinned sisters too?
    I am ashamed of all of the bloggers who have neglected to mention the other parties too. Black folks shouldn’t try to play those types of games with one another.
  62. Jasmine
    I am tall and thin like Naomi Capbell, and attractive, when I go out to clubs(interacial) I get ask to dance and approached by more white guys than black.Hmmm.
  63. Just a thought...
    @ Bella
    They didn’t have the party for the other skinned types. He said that they were “going to” have a party for the other skin tones.
    That’s why people are saying he is lying. If *****ody had given him this backlash, he probably would had just had the party for the light-skinned women and then that was it. He was just trying to save face.
    @ Crest
    The women whose face is on the fyler may not even know that her face was used for that fyler. Party fylers are NOTORIOUS for putting people’s faces with or on their fylers to plug their event, and then have the craziest captions underneath. And the person didn’t even know that their image was being used for that.
    This woman probably don’t even know this man. He just used her pic and then wrote whatever he wanted underneath. This isn’t science guys, this kinda ish is easy to figure out.
  64. Just a thought...
    I meant “flyer”…sorry for the typos…
  65. Miss Baton Rouge
    Its pathetic. There’s this very popular rapper named lil boosie from Louisiana that always mainly raps about wanting redbones and on some occasions carmaels in his songs but yet 1 of his daughters is dark and the other brown. And I can actually see it changing the way the males in Baton Rouge think. Before lil boosie became really popular I had males approcahing me just as much and sometimes more than my light skinned girlfriend.
  66. Buttafly
    Baby beautiful brown skin is what’s up. Everybody wants to be white or fair skinned. ***** them house *****s. LOL
  67. KKK
    What’s the big deal, here in Texas we have parties where on certain nights only blondes, red-heads, or brunettes, get in free. DAMN COONS!!!!!
  68. Full Baked
    I have combination tone skin: medium brown face, high yellow neck, shoulders, chest, stomach, thighs, legs, and feet. Does this mean I have to cover my face and wear a revealing dress and flip flops to get in?
