Sheeeeeeeettttt, anyone who has been killing folks for decades should never ever have a good night’s sleep…
Via NY Daily News:
The violent ex-con who had a dead woman in his bed when cold case investigators burst inside his Westchester apartment told cops 35 years ago he didn’t know why he was driven to attack women. Lucius Crawford made the startling admission after he was arrested April 19, 1977, for slashing five women at random on the streets of Charleston, S.C.
“I am glad you all caught up with me because I could not sleep at night because I thought the police were outside,” Lucius Crawford wrote in a police statement. “Then I sometimes say to myself, you done messed up. I say to myself, if you commit a crime, you have to pay for it, and then I asked myself why do you do this thing.”
It’s a question for which NYPD investigators probing the 60-year-old Crawford in the murder of 41-year-old Tanya Simmons still don’t have an answer. Simmons’ slashed-up body was found Tuesday by two Bronx detectives who came by Crawford’s apartment in Mount Vernon after finding evidence linking him to the cold case murders of two women 19 years ago.
Under questioning, authorities said, Crawford admitted stabbing Learonda Shealy to death in a Yonkers stairwell on Sept. 13, 1993, and fatally knifing Nella West on Oct. 20, 1993. West’s body had been dumped in Riverdale, the Bronx. But in a jailhouse interview posted Friday on The Journal News’ website, Crawford said he had nothing to do with the women’s deaths. He did say, however, that he killed Simmons, according to the report.
“One stabbing and they blame me for everything,” Crawford said at the Westchester County Jail in Valhalla. A call to his lawyer, Angelo MacDonald, was not immediately returned. Crawford’s arrest has raised fears that he might be a serial killer and possibly even responsible for the unsolved murders of 11 victims –— five of whom were prostitutes —— found buried last year in Suffolk County. If the 60-year-old suspect is a serial killer, his confession more than three decades ago could provide insight into the mind of a madman.
In a chilling statement to police obtained by The Post and Courier newspaper in Charleston, Crawford offered no reason for stabbing a 28-year-old woman. “When she got close to me, I stabbing (sic) her and just walked off on down Columbus Street. “Then I came across the second girl,” he continued. “She was walking down Hanover Street toward me, and when she got up to me, I had my blue jacket over the hand in which I had my knife. I stabbed her and kept walking down the street.”
All five women survived and later identified Crawford as their attacker. He was sentenced to 24 years in prison and split for New York City after he was released in 1991. Crawford landed back behind bars a short time later, after he was arrested in White Plains for slugging a former girlfriend. He served 184 days. Then in 1994, Crawford was busted for stalking and stabbing a 31-year-old woman with whom he worked. He was given a 10- to 20-year prison sentence and released in February 2008.
So, this fool has been on the streets all these years, just stabbing up women for no reason?? SMH at our justice system. He needs to stay locked up for good now.
