Do you REALLY need all that to “protect your home”???

President Obama Is Actively Supporting Gun Control Reform To Ban Automatic Weapons

President Obama’s new campaign to curb gun violence began to take shape Tuesday as the White House said he is “actively supporting” a proposal to reinstate the national ban on assault weapons.

Obama’s spokesman said the President also supports closing the loophole that allows sales of firearms at gunshows without background checks.

And Obama is “interested in looking” at banning high-capacity ammunition clips like those used in Friday’s massacre in Connecticut and in the movie theater rampage in Aurora, Colo.

But congressional Republicans showed few signs — at least publicly — of a breakthrough that would alter their overwhelming opposition to meaningful new gun laws.

There was no “Manchin Moment” among big-name Republicans similar to Monday’s stunning declaration by pro-gun Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin of West Virginia that “everything should be on the table” in the approaching debate over gun control.

As expected, there are several gun-lovin’ Republican leaders that still aren’t jumping at the idea that their “rights” could soon be limited.

“As we continue to learn the facts, Congress will examine whether there is an appropriate and constitutional response that would better protect our citizens,” Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said in deflecting specific questions on the issue.

Michael Steel, a spokesman for House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) said that “if the President has specific ideas in mind, we will listen. But right now our focus should be on the victims, their families and their friends.”

“It’s not timely to be talking about this while people are burying their children,” said pro-gun Sen. John Cornyn (R-Tex.).

Tough crowd, however, NY governor Andrew Cuomo’s sentiments reflect a realistic view of how America feels right now.

“They look to government to respond to a crisis. They look to government to respond with leadership. And I think what they’re saying is put the politics aside and stop the argument, stop the debate, and pass a bill that makes progress, even if it’s not a perfect bill.”

Church.

Thoughts and prayers continue to go out the Newtown community and all those affected.
