By any means necessary huh?
11 States Consider Measures To Place Armed Guards In Public Schools
The National Rifle Association has been taking heat over its pro-gun response to the Sandy Hook massacre, but some pols are applauding the powerful lobby’s plea for armed guards in schools – and are trying to do something about it.
Lawmakers in at least 11 states are considering such legislation to bulk up school security, according to reports.
In Arizona, the state attorney general said the country’s reaction to the Newtown shootings should mimic the Federal Aviation Administration’s response to the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, when the decision was made to let airline pilots carry weapons.
“The ideal solution would be to have an armed police officer in each school,” Tom Horne said in a statement Wednesday. The “next best solution is to have one person in the school trained to handle firearms, to handle emergency situations, and possessing a firearm in a secure location.
“The designated individual (no more than one per school) would then be authorized to keep a firearm locked in a secure place, and would have adequate communication to be alerted to an emergency in any part of the school,” he continued.
One thing is for sure, two is for certain, school security is likely to change drastically over the next few years.
Horne, who expects the proposal to be introduced in the Arizona state House, believes his idea may not be what the NRA or gun-control advocates have in mind, but is still the best way to prevent more schoolkids from getting needlessly shot.
“This proposal presents a golden mean between two extremes,” he said. “One extreme is to allow all teachers to bring guns to school, which could create more dangers than it prevents. The other extreme is to do nothing, which everyone will regret if a preventable incident like Newtown would occur in the future.”
…South Carolina, Virginia, Oklahoma, Nevada, South Dakota, Minnesota, Oregon, Tennessee and Missouri — plan to push for armed guards in schools, Time magazine reported earlier this month.
Would you feel safe sending your child to school knowing that there is an armed guard ready to pop a cap in a bad guy?
