The upcoming January 14th issue of JET Magazine asks a difficult question on its cover. Is your child next? The issue puts Jordan Davis, the Georgia teen who was shot by a Florida white man who said he felt threatened because Jordan and his three friends were “four black men” playing their music loudly.

Here’s details on the story:

In JET’s exclusive magazine interview, Davis’ parents, Ron Davis and Lucia McBath, sit down with New York Times Bestselling Author, journalist Denene Millner to talk about Davis’ “miracle” birth, how he was developing into a productive young man, and how his life was snatched away by an armed man who is expected to use the “Stand Your Ground” defense at trial.

Davis and McBath tell JET they are seeking justice for their son and want to see the laws changed; they are petitioning the Obama administration to declare Stand Your Ground illegal under federal law.

Ron Davis tells the magazine “I will be out there stomping all over the nation, fighting for my son…we need to change these laws to back ‘when you shoot somebody, you’re going to be held accountable.’”

The Davis cover story, which also spotlights staggering Stand Your Ground statistics, hits newsstands Monday, Dec. 31.

We’re really glad to see that JET did this with their cover. They’re asking a very important question too. What steps have you taken with your children to make them aware of how vulnerable they are? How have cases like Trayvon Martin and Jordan Davis changed the way you allow them to move around?

Also in this issue JET speaks with Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins from TLC about living with sickle cell anemia, raising her 12-year-old daughter, and her new reality television show and solo material in the works. And JET reveals the third-place winner of their first national Beauty of the Week competition, Jenisa Young, who was scouted during a casting call in Atlanta hosted by JET and Cynthia Bailey, of the Bailey Agency and Real Housewives of Atlanta.
