A night of partying turned into involvement in a sexual assault investigation for Andray Blatche as the Nets center took to the basketball court Tuesday night with a bad reputation renewed.
According to sources, the Nets center was questioned and released by Philadelphia police about an alleged rape that occurred in his hotel room Tuesday morning. Philadelphia police commissioner Charles Ramsey told the New York Times that another man committed the alleged rape, but Blatche was present in the hotel suite at the time.
According to the ABC affiliate in Philadelphia, samples of a date-rape drug were found in the hotel suite rented by Blatche. The station also reported that police confiscated Blatche’s cell phone, finding “compromising pictures of the alleged victim.”
Blatche reportedly picked up the woman at a Philadelphia strip club, and they partied with a group of at least six people at the Four Seasons Hotel in Center City.
The 21-year-old woman told police she was raped by one man and had consensual sex with another, according to Ramsey. Two other men were reportedly still in custody as of Tuesday evening, as the police tried to gather DNA evidence.
Commissioner Ramsey made sure to note that Blatche was NOT involved in the crime.
“From all accounts, (Blatche) was not personally in any kind of assault or anything like that,” Ramsey told the Times. “He was there but was not involved.”
That’s good to hear, however…
Blatche, a 26-year-old Syracuse product who, according to a team source, “keeps a shady entourage,” acknowledged his involvement on Twitter. The incident allegedly occurred just hours after Blatche’s one-year deal with the Nets became guaranteed. He apparently celebrated with intensity.
“I’m ok and I didn’t do anything jus was n the area when it happened,” Blatche wrote to his Twitter followers late Tuesday morning, before deleting the tweet about an hour later.
