Autopsy Report Shows Jovan Belcher Was Drunk When He Killed Himself And Girlfriend

Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Jovan Belcher had a blood-alcohol that was more than twice the legal limit when he shot his girlfriend nine times and committed suicide Dec. 1 at Arrowhead Stadium.

Autopsy results released by the Jackson County (Mo.) medical examiner show that Belcher’s blood-alcohol level was .17 when he died. His girlfriend, Kassandra Perkins, had almost no alcohol in her system. Neither tested positive for illegal drugs.

Perkins’s autopsy showed that she was shot in the neck, chest, abdomen, hip, back, leg and hand with a .40-millimeter handgun. After shooting her, Belcher drove to the Chiefs’ practice facility and shot himself to death as former general manager Scott Pioli and former coach Romeo Crennel tried to reason with him.

Belcher and Perkins were the parents of a 4-month-old girl and their parents have each filed for custody. The couple’s relationship had become strained and Belcher had been in a relationship with another woman since March. He had spent most of the last evening of his life partying with the other woman.

It’s too easy to blame the bottle. What Jovan Belcher did was selfish and despicable. Ours hearts continue to go out to all the family and friends affected by his behavior.
