The Muslims out in Malaysia are looking to crush any chances of Rihanna donning scantily clad attire for her concert:
KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (AP) — The good girl gone bad has promised to be good for one night. R&B sensation Rihanna will shun skimpy outfits when she performs in Malaysia next month, the concert’s organizers said Tuesday, becoming the latest international star affected by the Muslim-majority country’s strict rules on performers’ dress. Recent concerts by Gwen Stefani and Avril Lavigne faced protests by conservative Muslim Malaysians over immodest clothes. Stefani eventually made what she called “a major sacrifice” at her show by donning attire that revealed little skin. Under government guidelines, a female performer must be covered from the top of her chest, including her shoulders, to her knees. The organizers of a Pussycat Dolls concert in 2006 were fined nearly $3,000 after the U.S. girl group was accused of flouting decency regulations. The Malaysian organizers of Rihanna’s Feb. 13 stop on her “Good Girl Gone Bad” tour voiced hopes that protests would not mar the Grammy-winning singer’s show. Rihanna’s management is “aware of the country’s regulations and the difficulties of doing a show,” Razman Razali, managing director of Pineapple Concerts, told The Associated Press. However, a district branch of the opposition Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party, which blasted Lavigne’s on-stage moves as “too sexy” last year, said in an online commentary that Rihanna was “sexier and more dangerous” than Lavigne. Concert ticket Web site Axcess said sales for Rihanna’s show in a 16,000-capacity Kuala Lumpur stadium were selling briskly Tuesday, just hours after newspapers announced the event. Rihanna, 20, has had a slew of hits since bursting onto the music scene in 2005, including “Umbrella,” ”Pon de Replay” and “Unfaithful.”

As a European Muslima I want to say something about this subject. I don’t cover up, because I don’t feel the need to. (I focus mostly on inner beauty wich is a huge priority in Islam and is called ”inner hidjaab”). But for those who do, I say more power to them, because it takes a lot of confidence and strength to do so, especially in these times.
But what I can not stand are governments like in Malaysia. Because think about it. She needs to cover up, but her lyrics can stay? It’s hypocrite. They need to say, we are a strict Muslim country and don’t want that kind of music being played to the youth and we only want to play Anasheed (wich is like Gospel) or they just need to welcome artists the way they are and not only put restrictions on the artist’s appearance (like Morocco and Indonesia).
It just sounds hypocrite to me, some religious people from any religion take whatever is good for them in a religion and apply it the way they want and say that it’s a Muslim thing, argh.

i’ve been to malaysia as well and i’m sorry but that’s just not true. i didn’t cover my head or my ankles. at the hotel i wore a bikini, and outside the hotel i wore shorts below my knees and tshirts and *****ody said anything

What is wrong with modesty? It is almost like people have no faith in their talent so they resort to gimmicks (i.e. coming on stage butt naked…damn near). Sometimes it seems like the less talent someone has, the more likely it is I will see their butt cheeks. Yes, I have to agree that Islam in Africa is more liberal. The hip hop scene in Dakar is interesting. While American rap culture is emulated and rappers like Jay Z are popular there, most Senegalese rappers don’t like the misogyny in American rap videos. Also, female MCs in Dakar rhyme about feminist issues like motherhood, poverty and sexual har*****ment and they don’t wear clothes with their *****es hanging out like Lil Kim and Foxy Brown. I would take West African hip hop anyday over the crap that comes out of this country!

This approach is consistent with what Malaysia has told others who performed there. If I recall correctly, they gave Beyonce the same directive a few years back. I think that with some creative custom changes, Rihanna can still perform there with no problems and get that money.

And once again, your notions of women disrespecting themselves are based on what? This is the problem that I have with muslims and with men in general. A W***** in private, perfectly fine, w***** in public lets burn her at the stake. It appears to me as though it has always been about control. You can’t control a woman whp is open and public about her sexuality or the thoughts of other men who encounter her. But you can take a 12 year old girl in private, teach her how to do all types of degrading things and because its for your gratification its alright.
I know countless men who talk down women who they label as w*****s…but yet they can’t seem to stop being attracted to loose women sexually. Many would never marry a so called loose woman…their wives are decent women who played by the rules their whole lives, covered up and ‘RESPECTED THEMSELVES’ but you know what, when these women get in the bedroom many of them are lost because they have been sexually repressed for a lifetime and don’t know how to turn it off. This is because sex for alot of women is more of a mental than a physical experience. Some simply cannot bring themselves to do the freaky things their husbands want them to (that a w***** does without breaking a sweat) because of the shame and or guilt they experience and the end result is that the woman is unfulfilled and unmotivated after a while and the man takes on extra marital affairs to find someone who will do the things he wants. In any event…the woman always gets the short end of the stick.
I don’t need to do a survey to know that many muslim women are sexually repressed and experience a great deal of guilt and shame when they have sex with their husbands. I don’t need to do a survey to know that muslim men in general are probably lousy lovers because they don’t need to learn how to pleasure a woman…sex is for their gratification.
I think muslim men despise female sexuality because they are afraid of it. Western men are not much different. I wonder how inadequate they would feel if women demanded they perform up to standard sexually at all times. Most men would fail miserably. How inadequte would you feel if your women could fend for themselves and didn’t rely on you for their very existence…maybe you would actually have to have some real personal attributes to attract a women, maybe she would actually have to LOVE you to stay with you.
