Bossip has exclusively learned N.O. Hornet Chris Paul and his college sweetheart, Jada Crawley, are having a baby boy…and, yes, it was planned.
Our source tells us “They are so excited! Chris and Jada have been together since the beginning of college and planned this pregnancy. I don’t think wedding plans are set yet, but they’re definitely around the corner.”
Congrats! It’s nice to see that someone is actually taking the time to PLAN on bringing a life into this world instead of just shooting babies out like practice rounds at the gun range.
Note* Bossip is not congratulatory about babies being born out of wedlock, just to the aforementioned couple.

What ever happened to planning a wedding before planning for a baby?
I mean they’ve been togther for a while and are in a committed relationship and if they’re happy then fine, but this happens all the time with NBA and NFL players, they’ll have a black college girlfriend or hometown girlfriend for a while and maybe have a kid or two but when it comes time for marriage they’ll settle down with a white/spanish trophy ho. Perfect example Kobe Bryant. He had a black longtime girlfriend back home, but when it came time to get serious he married a Mexican high school kid. @Tiray, no I’m not projecting that Chris Paul will take the same path as Kobe. However it’s a fact that over 70% of African American children are born to single parent households, I’m aware that doesn’t necessarily mean they don’t have a father in their life but it’s still not a favorable statistic. It’s also a fact that the majority of black women will never get married in their lifetime. Whereas most white women will get married at some point during their lives.
I’m not p*****ing judgment on Chris Paul and his girlfriend, it’s a free country, and I understand marriage isn’t for everyone, but I also get tired of reading angry rants from women who will complain that black men will run around and get a woman pregnant but won’t commit. In retrospect, his childhood sweetheart, came out the winner. Vanessa, was publicly humiliated in front of the world, her husband almost went to jail, etc. Her marriage was not the most beautiful or perfect thing. The only thing the public knew was that he spent millions on her and did a black girl wrong. Yet, the black girl was educated, makes her own money and has a life. Vanessa has been through alot and I wouldn’t want any woman no matter what color to go through that.
Vanessa is totally dependent on Kobe because she didn’t have anything to fall back on, if he left, whereas his ex, had her career and education. Besides, Vanessa had to sit through and listen to testimony that was probably hard to hear.
I was always under the impression that Fatherhood was the Black Man’s Kyrponite, considering the fact that most black men hate being fathers, and act like fatherhood is the ultimate death, that people would be happy that a black man is taking care of his kid.

Why not just tell black children not to go to school at all because an education doesnt gaurantee anything at all. The fact is, nothing in life is gauranteed but you increase your chances of success with an education. Likewise you increase your chances of well adjusted children when you raise them in a traditional family structure.

My college sweetheart and I had been together and happy for years and marriage was always in the plans but we got our “reckless surprise” first. After overcoming the ensuing brokedom, we got married. It was not ideal, I would never recommend it for anyone, but it worked out and we’re one happy family now. I can’t talk trash about their decision, cause we were reckless and at least theirs is planned, but man. I do regret doing it backwards. Gotta be a better example for these beautiful babies we want to raise.

How do you rationalize 20 year olds having kids but marriage is just completely out of the question. Atleast when you are married you are only involving two competent adults but with children you have a completely innocent child in the picture, that deserves, the best from two people who have to completely think about the child FIRST.
So if marriage is too much of a commitment, so are babies.
Not every marriage is going to work but the shack up situation is even less successful than marriages. If 50% of marriages end in divorce I am certain that 80% of shack ups end in seperation. How do you like those odds?

On the other hand two parents who love, pay attention and communicate with their children increases the probability of children who are well adjusted, not marriage. You can be married and even pretend like the marriage is OK and children will smell that farce a mile away and ultimately the marriage does not increase the chances of a successful outcome for that child! Whereas if at least a civil relationship (as far as how the parents relate) between two parents is present, whether they live together or not, and more importantly the child is loved, given attention and discipline by both parents, that child in all likelihood will be fine. Marriage does not need to enter the equation and the institution itself does not increase the chances of well adjusted children.

Please, the “shacking up and having a baby” rate is much worst than the marraige rate. Marriage still means something even though people try to pretend like it doesn’t. Countless studies have shown that when two people are amrried they are more likley to stay together and much more likely to remain active in their child’s lives. Harsh but true. Reading some of these comments just makes me sad. Instead of wanting to do better, we are now starting to justify poor decisions. As a people, I feel as if we are approaching insanity.
OK, I just have to add how I really find little to no logic in the thinking that it’s easier, or more desirable, to plan a pregnancy than a wedding.
If you marry a person, you do have the option of divorcing that person should the marriage fail. Yes, it may cost a high amount of time and money, but, the point is, you can get out of it.
Once you have a child, that’s a life-long commitment (not to mention time-consuming and expensive). It seems to be a tragic irony that we have people who think creating a baby is somehow less challenging or costly than finding a husband/wife first.
I guess I’m saying I just can’t fathom anyone in their right mind saying we intentionally planned a pregnancy and marriage, well, that’s on the back burner, or in the “near future.” If you have time to plan a baby, do you not have time to at least plan a quick trip to the Justice of the Peace?
To take it a step further, if you think a man/woman is worthy of parenting your child (which, as I mentioned, is a life-long commitment and an immense responsibility), why would you not think of that person as a husband/wife first? Or is the problem that a number of us don’t think in those terms?

I live in LA and I will tell you that the only black women with any decent measure of a black man out here are already married. The overwhelming majority of black males in Los Angeles are SEVERELY DAMAGED. Like, unbelievably so. How can you say that marriage has no value to a man when married men are much more likely to be successful in their careers. Marriage is almost an obligation for men in certain industries like the military and business world. Men who are married are seen as more stable, less likely to jeopardize a job because they have a family to support and are usually more educated than non-married men.
Almost every study of married men shows that they tend to be happier and have more sex than non-married men. I am not saying that if you polled married men about their sex lives there would be no complaints, but after a certain age it becomes harder and harder for men to get “free sex” and they have to start accomplishing things. The only men with incredible sex lives are men who are wealthy and powerful and we all know that this is usually not where a black man will end up. So out of all men, black men should be trying to get married to help change his poor reputation which would help other black men be able to get jobs and be seen as viable.
As it stands now, everyone knows that black men do not value marriage, or fatherhood, or providing or anything else most Western men deem to be important.
Character is important, of course. No one is advocating for *****ed up people to get married and beget more *****ed up people. But the truth is part of CHARACTER is an ability to committ to ONE PERSON and try to build a life together. I don’t see character as just sending in a check and taking a kid for ice cream every other weekend. Sorry.

I was shocked and dismayed at the news you guys put out that Chris Paul’s pregnancy with his girlfriend was planned. That is complete BULLISH! First of all Chris has not been with Jada since college, he dumped her when he first got into the league to date other women and just got back with her this past year. Second, the pregnancy was not planned because he wasn’t so happy about it at first but he eventually warmed up to it. Third, his entire family can’t stand her *****! Have you ever seen a Hornets game where she sits next to his family? No, there is a reason for that. His family usually sits courtside while she sits higher up all by her lonesome. His mother cannot stand her, she does not even speak to her. All of this is hoopla has been put out by Jada and her new bff Kim Kardashian because she has such low self-esteem. Notice how Jada cut her bangs to look like Kim’s? Honestly I am sick of her playing her little games; and I for sure know that his entire family is also. She was supposed to be on birth control, that’s why so many people, including Chris, were shocked to find out that she was pregnant. But then again, she “missed” a couple of days. What a coincidence that once he gets back with her, he becomes a mega star and not one month after he signs a $68 million contract extension, she gets pregnant. No this girl knows what she is doing and is ensuring her future along with her parents’ retirement from the carpet cleaning business. She wanted to keep her upgrade from her Honda to that Mercedes Chris bought for her. He dumped has her a couple of times to date other women, she’s just trying to make sure she sticks now. I feel sorry for Robin Paul because now she has to forever deal with the woman who has hurt her son before. Jada may have been there before Chris was a mega star but she knew he was going into the league at least and she does have a pension for getting with athletes. Well I believe the pregnancy was planned but by both of them together? Possible but I find it hard to believe. Only because she stands to benefit more from this than he does. She will be set for life marriage or not he’ll lose a significant portion of his income. For me its not a religious thing but a commitment issue. You can commit to bring a life into the world together which is a lifetime commitment by the way but you can’t commit to spending the rest of your life with the person? Whether you are married or not that kid will be what connects you to that other person for the rest of your life. These things should not be entered into lightly and its disappointing that it is.
Even though Kobe married outside his race and folks seem to hate that for some reason even he waited till he was married to have kids which is a rarity.

As a close friend of the Paul family, I can confirm that, contrary to popular belief, this was NOT a planned pregnancy. While Chris is looking forward to being a father, he is not happy with the way these events have taken place.
