Racist Graffiti Found Inside New World Trade Center Building

Despite it being the site of one of the most detrimental losses of life in U.S. history, the new World Trade Center building in NYC is still being targeted by hateful, racist people who are using it at a shrine for ignorance.

The newly-constructed One World Trade Center stands as a beacon of historical significance and remembrance for those affected by the September 11th terrorist attacks more than a decade ago.

But inside the the unfinished $3.8 billion construction project reveals a glimpse of an uglier side of humanity. The New York Daily News reported on Monday that the plywood walls of the bathrooms, used by the hundreds of construction workers, were vandalized with racist and sexist slurs.

Photographs of the vandalism posted yesterday include scrawled words that read: “Theme: People who annoy the gov, N*****S”, “Hey Local 46, way to stand strong you Porch Monkeys!” “Where’s Obama’s birth certificate!!!” and “Lame n**** be Queit” (sic).

In a statement emailed to theGrio from the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, the entity that oversees the construction of some of the World Trade Center construction condemns the crude vandalism.

To think that this nonsense is happening at a place where thousands of innocent people lost their lives is very disheartening. We really need to do better.
