Damn, y’all, Livesteez reported that they aren’t letting Obama’s successor, Roland Burris, assume the senate seat he was appointed by that Blagojevich con man:

Roland Burris was bombarded by the media when he showed up on Capitol Hill Tuesday as Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich’s pick to replace Barack Obama in the U.S. Senate, and was promptly rejected – as expected.

Secretary of the Senate Nancy Erickson denied his certification, saying it lacked Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White’s signature and the state seal.

Burris, 71, then led a scrum of lawyers, consultants, police and reporters across the street in pouring rain, to a news conference which Burris aides said Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid had tacitly allowed, as reported by Eurweb.com

Erickson, Burris reported, had advised him that “I would not be accepted, and I will not be seated, and I will not be permitted on the floor.”

Burris called on the Illinois Supreme Court to order White to certify his appointment. An attorney for Burris, Timothy W. Wright III, said that “our credentials were rejected by the secretary of the Senate. We were not allowed to be placed in the record book. We were not allowed to proceed to the floor for purposes of taking oath. All of which we think was improperly done and is against the law of this land.”

Democrats and President-elect Barack Obama have said that the corruption charges against Blagojevich would taint anyone he appointed to the seat. Blagojevich denies federal accusations that he tried to sell the seat Obama has given up for the presidency.

In a written statement Tuesday, the governor said allegations against him shouldn’t be held against Burris, whom he called a “good and decent man.”

This Blagojevich fella is really f*cking things up for everyone. It’s time for him to pack up and get on somewhere. Enough is enough, already.

Come on Bossip-ites! No comments on Politics? Even the Housewives of ATL “news” had 16 comments!

  • Fresh Perspective

    @ E: you’re so right!

This is really a no win situation. If they seat him and the Illinois court decides that the appointment is illegitimate then Burris will be removed and there will be another appointment, presumably by the governor who will replace Blagojevich. If the Senate doesn’t accept Burris, then there’s the legal problem of Illinois not getting fair representation and State sovereignty versus Federal interest. It will be an interesting lesson in the American government’s tripartite system of checks and balances.

Very well said Fresh Perspective. Burris should have never accepted the nomination considering the circumstances. IMO, that speaks volumes about his character. And I truly hope that Black “leaders” don’t try to play the race card in any of this. Let’s keep the decisions based in law.

So since when is Cain’t a word?

Roland Burris is the man for this job…Period! If he wasn’t or if he would have been a shady character, they would have sat him down a long time ago. The fact is “legally” Blagojevich is still Govenor and has the right to fill that position. Burris is the most qualified candidate of all who were seeking to fill this position (check his background) and has the cleanest record. Although a few bloggers previously mentioned they hope the race card isn’t played…but seriously, isn’t it time we get some “color” in the U.S. Senate? There’s no one representing “our” people. Is this one of the “good ol’ boys club” were only “selected” individuals are allowed. Illinois needs this seat to be filled asap, and Roland Burris is for the people and will definately add integrity and honesty to the Senate.

He’s the right man, the problem is the wrong man put him there. I feel bad for the guy cuz unlike most politicians the guy is fairly clean.

He should have stepped back a bit instead of parading all over the news saying he was going to take the nomination. Let the Blagojevich issue run its course and he would still stand as the person picked. I didn’t like the way Burris handled it. I don’t live in Chicago currently so I can’t say that Burris isn’t qualified, just the way he talked to the media didn’t sit well with me.

  • ezdoesit

I agree with richie..Burris should’ve never accepted the nomination considering the current credibility of Blagojevich.it puts a stain on his own legacy in my opinion..

  • Breezeysmom

I wanna know why they got former Baltimore City Mayor Kirk Schmoke holdin the damn umbrella.

  • luvcelebgossip

I laugh when Bossip writes “Livesteez reported,” as if it’s a separate entity. On the Burris issue, I can’t tell if this dude is shady or not. But Blago-mess was smart in appointing him.
