Luda & Common

Luda and Common are using their talents to bring awareness BACK to Black history month:

Grammy Award winning and multi-selling recording artist, Ludacris, has just closed a deal to headline Hip Hop 101, February 21, 2009 at the Los Angeles Sports Arena. Common, Keri Hilson, Janelle Monae and Mix Master Mike (of the Beastie Boys) will also be featured:

HH101 will provide a bevy of entertainment, to celebrate what is probably the most important and significant Black History month ever with the appointment of Barack Obama as President of the United States of America. There will be guest speakers on hand that will range from entertainment to prominent leaders in the community to discuss the history of Black History Month.

Ya boy Common was also nominated for an NAACP: Outstanding Male Artist of the Year. But, leading the pack are Beyonce, Tyler Perry and Jennifer Hudson:

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – Singers Beyonce, Alicia Keys and Jennifer Hudson, along with the cast of TV comedy “Tyler Perry’s House of Payne”, were among top nominees for the NAACP Image Awards, the oldest U.S. civil rights organization said on Wednesday.

Television mini-series “A Raisin in the Sun” also received multiple nominations, while “Cadillac Records” and “The Secret Life of Bees” dominated movie entries for the 40th NAACP Image Awards.

The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People also announced that hip-hop music producer and businessman Russell Simmons will receive its prestigious Vanguard award next month for helping to increase understanding of racial and social issues.

In the NAACP Nominations, Beyonce, Tyler Perry and Jennifer Hudson are leading the pack:
Simmons, 51, the co-founder of Def Jam Recordings, was cited for using the power of hip-hop culture to inspire American youth. He joins past Vanguard recipients Aretha Franklin, Prince, Steven Spielberg and Stanley Kramer.

Beyonce led the music nominations with five nods including outstanding artist, album, song, and music video for “Single Ladies” and “If I Were a Boy.”

Former “American Idol” contestant Hudson, and Keys were close behind in the music category, and along with Beyonce, they picked up more nominations in the film section for roles in dramas “The Secret Life of Bees” and “Cadillac Records.”

In television, TBS sitcom “Tyler Perry’s House of Payne”, towered over the best comedy nominees, with cast members LaVan Davis, Cassi Davis, Lance Gross, Larramie ‘Doc’ Shaw, and Keshia Knight Pulliam all winning nods in the acting categories.

The ABC miniseries “A Raisin in the Sun”, based on the 1950s play about life in a black neighborhood of Chicago, won nominations for outstanding drama and for its five leading actors and actresses.

  10. ARTOFWAR

Again to BOSSIP. You are doing stories on which one, would you hit.
And I do understand that you are a gossip site.

However, there are other stories out there that impact our black communities, that I feel are much more important that LUDA, and Common.

And as for the NAACP, that organization has been a joke for many years now.
National *****ociation for the Advancement of…..COLORED PEOPLE? OF COLORED PEOPLE?
What has this *****ociation ever done for black people in this country. (REALY??)

I do not like Al SHARPTON, because I know, he has his own agendas.
But at least the man gets up on his horse and rides, when needed.

WHAT does the NAACP contribute except for handing out awards, to those black that have already made it out of the hood, and now live amongst the whites?

Here is a story for you BOSSIP.
There were several black men killed by police, on New Years Eve, and New Years day

One of them goes by the name of (Oscar Grant,) a 22 year old father that was shot in the back, while laying face down, and unarmed.
By a so called police officer in Oakland California, on the first day of the year.
Here is the story reported by CNN.

Protests erupted shortly after a young man killed by a subway police officer was laid to rest in Oakland on Wednesday night,
according to local media and Reporters.

Oscar Grant, 22, was killed January 1 in a shooting at a subway station in California’s Bay Area.

The Oakland Police Department made 105 arrests, including a m***** arrest of about 80 people at 11 p.m., said Officer Jeff Thomason.
The charges include inciting a riot, vandalism, *****ault on a police officer and unlawful *****embly, he said.

One officer was injured, but not seriously, Thomason said.

Footage from CNN affiliate KTVU-TV showed demonstrators rampaging through the streets of Oakland, California,
protesting the death of Oscar Grant, a 22-year-old father who was killed on New Year’s Day in a crowded train station.

Some protesters lay on their stomachs, saying they were showing solidarity with Grant, who was shot in the back as he was face-down on the floor
at a train station. Watch angry protesters in Oakland »

Several witnesses caught the incident on camera, and there have been numerous demonstrations this week.
The protests turned violent Wednesday night after Grant’s funeral,
and following an announcement by authorities that Officer Johannes Mehserle, who is implicated in the shooting,
    had turned in his resignation.

Videos from witnesses show Mehserle shoot Grant in the back as another Bay Area Rapid Transit officer kneels on Grant.
    where is the NAACP?
Not that giving out awards to deserving black is not a bad thing, but frankly I thing there are other issues out there
that should take priority over whether Luda or COmmon get another trophy.
I think Common, would even agree with me on this one….. ARTOFWAR.
