Thanks girl. U have a good point in that most Blacks think that Blacks are leading in obesity…and damn near everything else. Blacks do have higher rates of cancer, cholesterol, and hypertension than Whites and that does need to be addressed.
The bottom line is that I feel that traditionally, Blacks have been conditioned to believe that they are unhealthier than other races because of our genetics and thus, they don’t do anything about it. Every time you look around you hear “Blacks have higher rates of this and that.” No wonder many think that we are the most obese…but we are NOT. Kinda like when people say there are more Blacks on welfare than anyone else, but the stats tell a different tale.
I have done health education in our communities and this is what I hear directly from those who don’t know any better: “I am fat, my momma is fat, and that is the way that it is,” etc. It breaks my heart…because I know that we can do better! All it takes is someone who is willing to point peeps in the right direction….

I will only answer to what I know a lot of my family members feel…and this is coming from someone who did NOT marry an Ethiopian (trust me, there was a lot of crying and threats of dis-owning me, etc).
Alot of my family members feel we arent really African, because of the texture of our hair and the lightness of our skin. Mind you they won’t talk about the Southern Ethiopians who are DARK as night, and have hair curlier than lamb skin. And Abyssinia, the original name for Ethiopia was given to us by the Greeks, meaning, “Burnt people.”
Anyway, my family wanted my sister and I to keep the culture preserved, and felt all other cultures are inferior to our own, particularily American. ESPECIALLY black Americans…my dad nearly had a heart attack when I introduced the idea of me dating an African america (who I married later).
So to answer your question, maybe its not the grief from the men, as it is the grief from the family.

I am in no way downing anyone who has had children out of wedlock or at a young age. My mother had her first child at 15 and me at 30. She was married to my father for 38 years before he died. She taught me to make sure I could take care of myself before I had children and had that added responsibility of taking care of someone else.

Yes, I had problems with low riding jeans were in style. I always had to buy a size or two up, depending on the designer. For a sista with curves, it is very difficult to find skirts and jeans that fit well and are flattering to the figure. You end up buying something where the waist is too big just so that you can get a decent fit in the hips and ***** area. It is sad. If you are not a stick with pancakes, it is always an ordeal shopping for clothes.

As we all know by now, former NBA star Charles Barkley was arrested in December on suspicion of drunk driving. Though he claims he was just in a hurry to get a blow job.

And, now we find out that T-Mobile has dropped him as well!
The company has pulled its television commercials starring Barkley because of the drunk-driving arrest.
In a statement, T-Mobile says that “given the recent developments, for the time being, we’ve replaced TV ads featuring Mr. Barkley with more general-market advertising. As he works through his personal matters, we will evaluate where to go from here.”

That is some good advice. I thank you for telling your story! However, I had to make my own way through college, and I have no way to pay my bills if I went into an internship that was not paid. I know that paid internships are out there, but they are hard to find! I have faith that I will be placed on a path that I was meant to follow. I just hope that it comes soon!
