Tyler Perry Says Orlando Jones As Madea Not Happening
Earlier this month, actor Orlando Jones released a statement claiming that he would be replacing Tyler Perry as the infamous cross-dressing grandmother character Madea.
Well, Tyler Perry is now speaking out to address what was apparently an April fools’ joke that he says wasn’t funny and went too far.
Orlando Jones attempted to play a prank on Tyler Perry, but the multimillion dollar director isn’t laughing.
Jones put out a statement last week, complete with a video of himself in drag, claiming he is taking over Perry’s beloved Madea character so the filmmaker can focus on other projects.
The press release came complete with statements from execs at Perry’s distribution company, Lionsgate, and quotes from the famed director himself.
Now, Perry is saying the actor pushed the joke a bit too far. “That was an April Fool’s joke that HE did. Not true, and not funny,” Perry told S2S Magazine publisher Jamie Foster Brown in a text message. “When I’m done with Madea, she’s done.”
We, for one, are glad that this was a joke.
