I am continually amazed at the level of brainwashing of Black Americans. Most science confirms that weight is genetically pre-determined and not a character flaw. Does anyone seem to notice that the skinny people at the job can eat all kinds of fast food all day every day and never gain weight and then the heavier people eat the same thing and gain 5 pounds in a week? I see it at my job all the time. I am a size 14 and work out 3-4 times a week and eat a low fat diet. I do not have diabetes or high blood pressure and in fact in optimal health. Studies have shown that most folks who are thin are genetically determined to be that way. Black women are traditionally heavier then women of other races because we have higher levels of estrogen in our bodies which aslo effects body weight. Estrogen is the same hormone that keeps our bones from breaking and our face from wrinkling in old age. Diabetes and heart disease are also genetic diseases that are passed down in families, but every person of larger size does not automatically develop these conditions. As a healthy full-figured woman that does take care of her self and has for years, it is upsurd to see these things said in the community which has no basis in scientific fact but another way to make people buy into an idea that has been debunked for quite some time but because it makes someone a chunk of change we all believe it. I am not saying that there are not people that overeat or people who are morbidly obese (which is actually a mental disoder) but to lump everyone in the same category is like saying we all look alike or all black men are in jail. For more info read the book “Rethinking Thin,” that’s if anyone reads anymore these days.

@Hollywood BS-I agree with some of what you said: There ARE many more talented black actresses. White Hollywood loves black women in one of the following stereotypes: angry/attitude-having black woman (JHud), Mammy, Tragic Mulatto, Whore, Crackhead. Regardless, I don’t think people need to diss her for her weight (yes, she seems full of herself so to speak, but so is Monique and they’re both attractive women). But it’s true-JHud shouldn’t talk junk unless she’s able to prove herself as a true actress without relying on singing/dancing. I mean, seriously, BEYONCE was upset that she didn’t win an Oscar herself, though somehow she got a Golden Globe nomination…LMAO. It’s all BS, but JHud has to have a lot of confidence in this business b/c she’s an easy target

Thank you Hollywood BS!!!! Someone had to say it!!! I mean seriously all these people talk about how she won an Oscar but they didn’t give it to her for her performance, cuz it wasn’t even that good. I mean she’s not a good actress. Period. The Academy only gave it to her because she was the underdog, the big girl who could sing, and thats it. For the past few years the Academy has been giving out awards to people that they feel will get people talking the next day. Look what happened when they gave the award to Crash. I liked Crash but in no way was that the best movie of the year when up against movies like Munich or Good Night and Good Luck. Those movies were 50 times better. Its all about the underdog or the movie that is a little different, rather than the most compelling, better acted, or better written. I’m not trying to hate but the truth is the truth. Its like people wanna act like she’s the best at what she does when in reality I doubt we’ll be seeing a lot of her in the future.

anyway, i think crash deserved the oscars? that movie to me was a reflection of reality, something that needed to be seen by all americans. i think it was well made, and deserved to win over the rest.

regarding ms. hudson, she acted besides one of the most popular celebrities of today (beyonce), yet most people rooted for her. so, apparently, she did something right if she was able to win against miss beyonce.
also, miss bassett is always known to play the ’strong black women’ types as well, so i wonder if she won, if we’d call it ’stereotypical’. not that she’d had a movie in a while or nothing.

Taraji Henson gave one of the best supporting performances this year in “Talk to me” opposite Don Cheadle. She mesmerized her audience and she didn’t need no Jennifer Holiday song to help her. Are people talking about her performance? No! Even black people haven’t even seen the movie. Will she be nominated for an oscar? I doubt it. Will she win? definitely no. But is she better than JHUD? YES. Even though she’s a better actor than JHUD, will she get less recognition? definitley yes. Why so you ask? HYPE is the answer
HYPE was responsible for JHUD’S success. Everybody was talking about the hefty American idol loser who outshined Beyonce in a movie. Everybody was talking about how Simon dissed her but now she found success with dreamgirls. Everybody was talking about her voice. Everyone was talking about her weight. Everyone was talking. She had all the hype and the academy bought into that hype.
White people like big, fat black women, especially one that had hype they could use to women. And drumrolls please, she won.
Can she really act? NO.

In the Academy awards, the first award handed out is always Best supporting actress. However, this year this year, they surprisingly changed that pattern and started with another award. Viewers were kept in suspense as they wondered if their favorite American idol loser would win the award. They pushed it right to the end to keep people watching and surprise, surprise she won.
She won immediately before the Dreamgirls performance and the academy told Jennifer Lopez to introduce Jennifer Hudson as “…and the Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson”. J-lo was also told to start the introduction with Anika Noni Rose, Beyonce and then “oscar winner Jennifer Hudson”. This was done to present Jennifer Hudson as triumphant over her critics and Beyonce.
If this isn’t the perfect ratings recipe, then I don’t know what is. Open your eyes to the politics of Hollywood and don’t be blind. If the oscars is all about talent why hasn’t Cicely Tyson, Kate Winslet, Leonardo Dicaprio etc. won? Resse Witherspoon has an oscar while Angela Bassett and Kate Winslet don’t have any? and you call the oscars a judge of talent? oh please, don’t be buffoons.

My point is not her boobs but her talent. The girl is overhyped, overblown and over the top. She’s not as talented as people make her out to be and she didn’t deserve that Oscar. She is selling the “fat and proud” image and that’s why she has been successful. So my point is, just as skinny girls in Hollywood are selling their image, Jennifer Hudson is equally selling her image. Period.
