first, i want to say that i am excited about D’Angelo’s return to the studio and the stage. he is undoubtedly one our greatest talents and it will be a breath of fresh air to have him back.

having said that, in regard to all the shots about his weight gain (i know there will be plenty more comments on that issues as this post grows), that is a part of why he cut his Voodoo tour short and his shocking change in appearance.

according to an interview i read back in 2003 i believe, ?uestlove (who was touring with D’Angelo then) stated that he (D’Angelo) began feeling like his audience wasn’t feeling him on an artistic level, that they didn’t respect the artform and that they were only interested on when he would take his shirt off, not in what he sang about. ?uest said that D would be depressed and eventually became burned out; finally cutting the tour short and going on hiatus from the industry.

with every artist who goes through this kind of situation (a la Lauryn), there is an underlying cause and i believe that we, as fans should begin to be more openminded when it comes to such instances.

easier said, i know, but just my sentiments.

i, for one, will welcome D’Angelo back the same; no matter what his size. he is truly a gifted artist and this stale industry needs him.

The Brown Sugar singer has been recording tracks for James River-his first release since 2000 -with Gnarls Barkley’s Cee-Lo Green, Raphael Saadiq and Mark Ronson, and now he’s looking to complete the album with a Prince collaboration.

The project marks the end of a lengthy troubled period for the soul man, who survived a serious car accident and hit the headlines for drug-related arrests in between albums.

There is a lot of hearsay as to what’s been going on with him, some say he suffered from the Bobby/Whitney syndrome (Crack/Coke) and he’s been in a few accidents and what not…

I agree with Mslively6. I’m a fan of D’Angelo’s music first and foremost. We accepted Luther when he went up and down with his weight. His voice was undeniable and timeless – period. I feel the same with D’Angelo. He makes good music, I feel his lyrics and I’m a true fan of his and could care less if he packed on the pounds. He has been through some serious issues with depression, drug abuse, serious car accidents and he made it through all of it. I’m glad he’s finally ready to do what he does back and that’s put out hot music that means something. Good for you D’Angelo. I’m a fan regardless of how you look.

D’Angelo is making a BIG come back, literally, lol damn he’s been eating at the buffet lately, lol. He dissed and dismissed Angie Stone (that’s a messed up thing you did D.). I couldn’t have said it better! It is very sad at what young people today consider to be good music. Today it’s all about the beat and the hook. No one cares about the lyrics being understandable or meaning something! All we can do is make sure our own kids know what real music is and to broaden their horizons when they listen to music. Don’t just listen to R&B and rap, listen to some country, rock, alternative, reggae, classical. Our kids need to be more well rounded with music periond and KNOW THEIR HISTORY with music!!!!!

I read elsewhere that he’s already been working with his old traininer (from his how does it feel days) and has lost a lot of weight so far. Either way, with that line up of collabos, sounds like a good ‘ol classic D’ album is on the way!
