Asian people are considered the “model minority” so they are less scrutinized. As for schooling asians have a natural gift for mathmatics and science so they’re more likely to gain admittance to universities without a second doubt, plus since they’re from another country they gladly pay the full fees, colleges like that.

It’s not just in the Asian community….does the name “Hudson” ring a bell. There are sick people out there. It makes it bad for people like me who generally give people the benefit of the doubt, but when I hear about random people like this, it makes me think thrice! It’s scary. This young woman was looking to better herself, instead she’s murdered. Universities may have to think about mandatory psych evaluations for students, perhaps if that had been done in this case, this wouldn’t have happened.

I’m sad for the families. AND this is why -
you never hear about the killings/suicides that happen in higher education at the technically elite schools. I know of two that never made mainstream media because the universities work with the police department to keep it quiet. Asians, especially first generation over-achievers that come to the USA to be a success, carry a heavy weight to be successful from their families and their peers. Most Asians think they are superior to everyone, and some would rather die than fail. And the mentally disturbed ones will take folks with them in an act of revenge on the folks who put the pressure on them.
One year in CA, the police had to shutdown three blocks around the university because a Chinese freshmen committed suicide with cyanide gas.

One university recognized the problem, and they stopped admitting students just because they have straight A’s – they started looking for more balanced students (community activism, clubs, athletics, as well as grades).

If Virginia Tech admissions had not already decreased drastically they are about to. People better stop looking the other way when there is a crazy person in their midst.

Ever been to Blacksburg or VT? Contrary to what you folks might think, it’s a real pressure cooker over there. The academics are very stressful because they really want to be like M.I.T.

I think that it was luck of the draw that the two craziest people out of Hokie High have been Asian. There are a lot of Asian students there, but it has more to do with the high academic standards being difficult to navigate in a town that doesn’t care.

Is so ignorant on bossip’s part to make such a statement. I mean many black have committed crimes in schools and whites…so are we now have to be afraid of all black or white men.
Everyone just needs to pay more attention to the surroundings and people they come in contact with. My prayers goes out to the victim’s family. RIP

I work in graduate admissions for a major university, and I can tell you FIRST HAND that Asian people take failure very seriously. I get students from China literally pleading about ruining their lives because they wanted a higher test score or something like that. It is a cultural thing. Having said that, even though a lot of Asian families are almost obsessive about school and work, CLEARLY, the man who cut the woman’s head off is NUTS! I don’t know of any society that condones this type of behavior. I only point out my experience with Asians to try to gain an understanding of what might have been going on in the man’s mind to commit such a heinous act over losing money. He was probably mentally ill.

Such a sad tragic end to a life full of promise. I feel that anyone regardless of race who loses their lives to such violence at such a young age is sad and such a waste! I will never understand how people can snuff each other out like it’s nothing. May Jehovah through his son Jesus Christ be with this girls family through their time of need.

He wasn’t mentally ill when he was making money in the stock market. For all we know, he might’ve been playing the stock market on margin. That’s a lot of pressure when the market is collapsing. He could not accept failure in any form and with his financial world in ruins he was frustrated and desperate. It really takes so little to snap.

This mess is horrible. What I don;t get is why he killed her. I mean they were at the cafe drinking tea and chatting. Next they’re at the dorm and her head is in his hands? WTH! I mean I get he freaked out over his loss of money, but she wasn’t the one who lost his money. What made him want to take her head off? Where’s the motive? I think this behavior is the norm in some Asian countries. When someone from over here behaves this way, we tend to call them crazy or psycho. But this might be more the Asian culture than we know.

How do you make such sweeping generalizations? You have two asian folks who killed at the university. Crime happens everyday across all races. I have to say most of these comments I do agree with. Having any type of mental illnesses amongst asians are not looked well upon. You can’t talk about it with your family at all – they just think you are crazy or depressed & in older generations “SAVE FACE” and don’t get help.

Wow as an Asian Virginia Tech student this comment and Bossip’s own comment on Virginia Tech admitting bloodthirsty Asians is very insensitive. This victim as well as some of the shooting victims were Asian. It’s very insensitive especially because I knew people that were killed in the shooting. It’s very easy to make insensitive generalizations when you have no personal connections to the school or the victims. I STILL love my school. It is hard academically, but these were freak accidents that could happen anywhere. While it deeply saddens me that so much violence has occured I think that you should really check yourself and wonder if you would make generalizations like that if both murderers had been of your own race. I think Bossip is very entertaining, but do you not think you have Virginia Tech readers, Asian readers, or readers that personally knew this victim!?!
