This is so sad. A little boy who survived the devastating tornado in Moore, Oklahoma last month was mauled to death by a friend’s pet over the wekend.

Via NYDailyNews reports:

A family from Moore, Okla., is mourning their 5-year-old boy, killed by a Bullmastiff at a friend’s Arkansas home.

Jessieville was supposed to be a safe haven for the boy, a place for him and his 2-year-old sister to stay as their parents worked to rebuild their lives in Moore. The family home was destroyed during last month’s massive tornado.

But on Sunday, a 150-pound Bullmastiff leapt on the boy, who reportedly was crying and upset before the attack.

“The dog possibly took that as being aggressive, and at that time the child was attacked,” Garland County Deputy Scott Hinojosa told KARK-TV.

The dog’s owner, Lynn Geiling, 50, tried in vain to pull the hefty animal off the boy. Once separated, the 5-year-old had “major lacerations” to his neck and head and died at the hospital.

“You can’t imagine, you know, what this family and friends are going through right now,” Hinojosa said.
The dog ran off after the attack. Authorities found the dog shot dead Monday afternoon.

“Animal control came out yesterday and told us about it and told us to be on the lookout,” Paige Parks told the TV station. “Everybody’s been out. My neighbors were walking down the street (with guns) this morning like they were going hunting.”

Police have not yet said whether charges will be levied against the dog’s owner.

The American Kennel Club describes the Bullmastiff as an intelligent guard dog that “is fearless and confident, yet remains docile and sweet natured with his family.”

“It’s tragic,” Hinojosa told KLRT-TV. “People are just heartbroken.”

We can only imagine the pain his family must be going through. Our thoughts and prayers go out to them right now.
