This ish is scary. High school romances sure ain’t what they used to be. A beautiful young girl is dead after being gunned down by her psycho ex-boyfriend.
Via NJ.com reports:
The hunt for the ex-boyfriend of an East Orange prom queen found shot to death in her bedroom came to a close today, when a federal task force captured the 18-year-old inside a Newark apartment, officials said.
Al-Muqqadin Means faces murder charges in the death of 17-year-old Aquilla Flood, a college-bound senior who would have graduated from high school this Saturday, according to Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn Murray.
Flood was recently voted prom queen at Campus High School in East Orange and was supposed to receive her crown on Thursday night. Now, she’ll be buried Wednesday morning.
Prosecutors have not offered a motive in the killing. But the victim’s mother, Nicole Flood, said Means was a jilted lover who began to threaten her daughter after she turned down his invitation to prom.
No one answered the door at the building where Means was arrested today, a row of red brick apartments that sits across the street from an abandoned building in Newark’s Central Ward.
Tasjoin Williams, a 19-year-old Newark resident, was arrested with Means and charged with an unrelated armed robbery, Murray said. Authorities would not comment on what, if any, relationship, the men had.
On June 5, at about 7:30 a.m. Nicole Flood found her daughter dead of a single gunshot wound to the head. Ambrose said the young girl had died hours before the grim discovery. There were no signs of forced entry at the family’s East Orange apartment, he said.
Nicole Flood has said Means climbed a fire escape to gain access to the family’s third story apartment and shot Aquilla while she slept. Police have not confirmed that account.
Aquilla Flood broke up with Means several months ago, her mother said, after the suspect’s sister warned the girl that the 18-year-old was a violent man. The threats started a few weeks later.
She was so scared that she begged her mother to move to a new apartment, but Nicole Flood said she didn’t know the extent of the threat posed by Means until after she found her daughter lying in a pool of blood in her bedroom. Aquilla apparently told her uncle about the threats, but not her mother.
Criminal records show Means was arrested twice this year for robbery, theft and conspiracy. The charges have not been resolved.
Services for Aquilla Flood will be held tomorrow morning at Christian Pentecostal Church in Newark. Visitation for the girl will begin at 7 p.m. Tuesday night.
How awful. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Aquilla’s family and friends.
