This story both saddens and shocks me. I too thought it was a white family, because although our people do have our issues, we are known for our perserverance. This is a tragic reminder of why we must hold on to our faith in god.

If they wanted to die they should of did it and left the children. Children are not personal property. Parnets don’t own them. They are human beings and they did not deserve this. Foster care could of been an option. It is certainly better than a bullet.

LOS ANGELES – A man fatally shot his wife, five young children and himself Tuesday after he faxed a note to a TV station claiming the couple had just been fired from their hospital jobs and together planned the killings as an escape for the whole family. “Why leave our children in someone else’s hands,” Ervin Lupoe wrote in a letter posted late Tuesday on the KABC-TV Web site.

Kaiser Permanente Medical Center West Los Angeles released a statement confirming both Lupoe and his wife had worked there; both were medical technicians. The letter indicated that Lupoe and his wife had been under investigation for misrepresenting their employment to an outside agency in order to obtain childcare. He claimed that an administrator told the couple on Dec. 23: “You should not even had bothered to come to work today you should have blown your brains out.”

The couple complained to the human resources department and eventually were offered an apology but two days later the Lupoes were fired, according to the letter.

“It looks like they might have had grounds for his termination … it wasn’t that he was laid off as a result of the economic situation,” police Capt. Billy Hayes said.

In 1994, Lupoe was charged with carrying a concealed firearm but it was either dismissed or not prosecuted, court documents show.

Lupoe got a state license to work as a security guard in 1989 and a permit to carry a gun as a security guard in 1993 but both expired in 2007, said Russ Heimerich, a spokesman for the state Bureau of Security and Investigative Services.

Bob Pierce, a Long Beach attorney who represented the Lupoes in an auto accident, said the case did not involve any serious injuries and the family was expected to receive “well below $10,000,” he said.

Lupoe called Monday to find out when the money might be coming, Pierce said. Pierce told him that it might be another week or two “and he said ‘no problem.’”

I agree that the home shit got crazy out of hand. Everyone was drunk off home prices and no one was checking anyone. But when the party is over, it’s over. Just like some of those mortgage brokers had their licenses stripped and lost their jobs – these idiots have to lose their homes. They were partying, buying a fleet of cars, taking care of their “friends”, spending on any and everything on a whim. When the money was almost gone they blamed it all on winning the lottery.

They also had people who won millions years back and used it wisely and are still healthy and even more wealthy today.

So IMO, money is good, it is the mindset of the people who use it which determines how it effects your life and lifestyle.

About this family, it’s surprising that this happened, to them. Usually we don;t do things like this…I’m sad for the family but this is also why you shouldn’t have alot of children, if you cannot care for them..I’m sorry and I know that sounds mean. But it is the truth…And no I am also one of those people, who believes that a child’s only concern, is being a child..The adukts should have planned and prepeared for the child/children before they arrived…Having 5 children is alot of children. I, myself, would like to have 2 or 3 more..But when I do, most likely I will adopt. I have to be sure that I am financially able to live the type of lifestyle, to which I am accustomed. Even before, I had children with my husband. We planned almost everything. I knew that having one chil would cost anywhere from $250,000. – $500,000. including private school, boarding school, college, clothes, medical, dental, hospital coverage. doctor’s office-annuaks, etc., food, vacations, parties, travel, retaurants, etc. I knew all of those things…

Which is why I made sure that we had enough money BEFORE we got started…However, having money doesn’t deal with all the issues…I find that once finances aren’t the challenge, something else will take it’s place…I have to make sure the kids remain grounded..Not too spoiled..Know the value of money, work ethic, responsibilities…They know about payroll, banks, how we eat, but if everything were to fall apart tomorrow, I would NEVER kill my kids…NEVER. no rationalization for it….I would start all over again, but I couldn’t harm my kids…..

I’m not sure what their issue was regarding the investigation but they were in health care and I am sure they could have found another position at a different organization. This is a very sad case. The children were innocent and the parents were at their brink. Often times we allow fear to overcome us and we make make terrible decisions. The company is also at fault for their lack of sensitivity in the workplace. Companies need to screen their employees and have training on sensitivty in the workplace seminars. This could have been avoided. As the economy worsens unfortunately crime against women, elderly, disabled and children increases.
