I never talk about people’s looks (at least I remember if I have) because I think it’s mean and irrelevant since they had nothing at all to do with their features. I leave that to other Bossipers, so that counts me out. I don’t know what blogs or things you read, but 6 x’s out of 10, everything I’ve read about Michelle was not her accomplishments, her mothering, or being a great support to her husband, but how she looks. You said that people can be cruel when discussing black women. My point exactly! It’s bad enough when “others” down black women, but when black women do it, it’s shameful. She reminds me of my ex-boyfriend’s mom. Not pretty but I liked her face (pause). Gwen Ifill is another handsome woman.

I agree with you here. I personally think that people see in Michelle a version of attractiveness that they can attain. For far to long, the ideal beauty in the black community has been attainable and Michelle comes along and changes that. Whether or not they actually think she is beautiful is inconsequential as they see themselves in Michelle (physical wise) and saying that she is beautiful in turn says something about their beauty.

Michelle is beautiful because it shines from the inside out. She has that genuine beauty as a person. She looks like her brother with a wig on. I don’t find her brother handsome at all, but I like Michelle. Some pics of her look better than others. She looks better with longer hair instead of that helmet head that First Ladies seem to love so much. Michelle and Barack look beautiful together.

So, if you agree with my “idiotic” statement, what does that make you?

I see nothing wrong with identifying with Michelle’s attractiveness, but we need to be honest with our intent. Because there is a major difference between finding her attractive and finding her attractive because you want to be seen as attractive too. It also puts into prospective those who get angry when someone does not believe Michelle is beautiful. They are taking it personal.

As I’ve mentioned earlier, I’m well beyond those days when beauty is the end all say all. Michelle has substance, for me, that is all that matters. More importantly, Obama loves her.

All of the first ladies have been ugly. I fund MIchelle to be very cute and a nice looking family, and I”m proud of her and President for loving eacg other. The fact that our President loves his wife and family means the world to the black community.

The point I want to state is, “So what?” Women are always held to a higher looks standard than men as though we HAVE to be attractive/pretty/beautiful. In regards to Michelle, I’m speaking to a specific lot. I’m speaking to the ones who comment on her beauty as if they wish they were commenting on their own. I’m talking about those who live vicariously through how others perceive Michelle. This is a form of narcissism which stems from low self esteem and it’s sad.

It’s similar to the whole Kelly/Beyonce argument. True, some will find Kelly much more beautiful than Beyonce because they truly believe that she is. Others will find Kelly more attractive because by doing so, they can validate parts of themselves they deem unworthy (dark skin, short hair…).

Anyway, I think Michelle Obama’s attractiveness is inconsequential. I’m just intrigued by the psychology of some of the bossipers.

I think that the media constantly telling us she’s attractive makes me think they don’t think she is. I don’t think she is at all. I do look better than her on my worse and better day than she does. Does it matter that she is not good looking – no. As far as Condy Rice – no one on the right ever claimed she was attractive. All they said was that she was smart – she is, she has poise – she does, she is a musical prodogy – true, but they never said beautiful. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and I just don’t see it. I just wish people would stop worrying about what is on the outside and focus on the persons beauty on the inside…someday we all will be old and not so pretty..when all is said and done, it really doesn’t matter in the end, when we face judgement day.
