Creflo Dollar and Bishop Eddie Long on the “Alleged Financial Wrongdoing” List

Creflo Dollar and Bishop Eddie Long are two among six televangelists that are under investigation for alleged financial wrongdoing by the Senate Finance Committee. The Senator of Iowa is requesting expense information from the ministries this week.
“I’m following up on complaints from the public and news coverage regarding certain practices at six ministries. The allegations involve governing boards that aren’t independent and allow generous salaries and housing allowances and amenities such as private jets and Rolls Royces. I don’t want to conclude that there’s a problem, but I have an obligation to donors and the taxpayers to find out more.”

People love their pastors and they don’t care how good he is living as long as he’s preaching the word. I know times have changed, but was Jesus living like this? And in order to get the message or the word, do you have to give money? Were Jesus followers dressed up? The problem is that rappers say from the start they are in it for the money and the bling. Not one of the ministers said “I’m going to preach so that I can get Maybach the $200,000 watch or the private jet. Preachers are to do it for the spiritual fulfillment first and not the bling. Instead living like they are in the Robb Report couldn’t that Bentley money go to help some member that is in need.

I am in the wrong business, apparently God IS good…
Well, I was always a lil leary of a pastor named “Creflo DOLLAR”- that says it all. I was amazed at how large his congregation has grown over the years and the Bishop has always been flagrant and questionable with finances. I can say this, a few years ago I gave in to the hype while visiting my parents in Atl. and they worship Dollar-Bill, he is a good teacher and knows the word. I live in NYC and I occ*****ionally attend his service at MSG {how befitting, like a rock star}, but I have learned to separate his human nature from that of the word. I dont worship him, but I can still take in the lessons & the spirit of the word, despite what he is about {a hypocrite or true leader}. Christians have to learn that it is not the Pastor of the church that you put your faith in to b/c he/she is human and *****e to sin, you put your faith in to the spirit of God and the word of Jesus and no matter what they do, you will be salvaged. People give up on thier faith when the leaders of their congregations are found out to be human, but that means you have been misdirecting your faith.
You should go to church to praise God, not these preachers as some of the congregation does. I will continue to go to church and pay the 10% in tithes that the Bible speaks on and not support pastors such as these with lavish lifestyles. No matter how much money a person gives to a preacher you can’t show up at the gates of heaven and expect to get in because you made sure Creflo had an indoor pool.

LMAO!! Ya’ll are right, it’s about time someone checked up on these pastors. I don’t understand how you can preach that it is ok to be rich and still go to heaven. If i semi-remember right it said in the bible “what profits a man to gain the world and lose his soul”. The rich don’t go to heaven. An ATM in the lobby?? That should set off warning bells in your head!! Here’s a hint, if ya’ll didn’t have all that electrical/fancy stuff you wouldn’t be up in the pulpit every sunday beggin for collection to pay for this or that. I hate it when the pastor spends 20 minutes telling people to make sure to fill-out their tithes envelopes. I give what I can give and that is it, which is ususally 0.25 to 1.00. I think God said you could come to him as you are, you don’t have to be in some big church with all the fancy television screens, etc. The only time I actually go in a church is for communion and certain holidays, the rest of the time i’m holding church on my knees next to my bed.

This is a shame before the lord, and they will reap what they have sown, but I would like to say this, and no offense is meant, so I hope none will be taken…..To those who say stuff like this is why they don’t go to church, though some ministers are hypocrites and thieves, that does not give us a right to stay away from church and God. They will be judged according to their works, as well as we ALL will, and what they chose to do will not be a sufficient excuse as to why you didn’t go to church, and yes you do have to go to church, the Bible commands us ( we need to fellowship with one another) to go to church. Don’t let NO ONE lead you astray. Every church is not like this, nor is every minister. Pray for God to direct you to a true shepherd for HIM and a true church…HE Will. God Bless!

It’s good that the gov is checking up on them b/c after the investigation, people can shut the hell up about them “taking” money. I use to attend these churches all my life. I believe I grew apart from their standards but from what Creflo tells his people, he no longer is paid from the church. The mone goes to funding tv for Africa, the US and other places. I have seen many groups, clubs, foundations that don’t come cheap. If you are hungry, they feed you. If you need your rent paid, they pay it. He gets his money from selling books. Check it out, he is a best seller in many countries. Do you know how much money that is? When you make money from your tapes, books, guest apperances then their is no need to take money from the church. When I attended the church, their were many people who would protest. Its been like that for years! This is no different. These churches are use to this. Why do you think these pastors are so calm in these interviews. And not just your usual, “Oh everything’s good.” You see it in their faces.
I can’t judge these pastors based off of a religious “Video Vixen”. I don’t care who’s gay. Who is doing what. We are all human. If it is not affecting the word that you are seeking then let it go. This author wants attention. May God help him and he better hope to whomever that he is correct. You don’t mess with a preacher close to God. His Karma will get him good if he is incorrect.
Also, why are people afraid of having money? Money is not evil. It’s what you do with the money that makes it evil. Oh and yes, Jesus was rich. I will find the scriptures (I am rusty) and post them later. It took them a while to take off all of his riches and jewerly before they nailed him to the cross. But I hear people afraid of prosperity. It’s like a disease!?! I don’t know, maybe people like to think that God wants you to be poor to make an excuse for their lives. Life is what you make it. If God or who you believe in is o great, why can’t you view him in having the best? Please. Well MY GOD is not broke.
But once again, I am glad that this is happening so it can put to rest the accusations that are going around. Like I said, I know about the two mega churches in Georgia. I’ve heard my share of rumors but I think this whole situation is good. It can shut everyone up and we can focus on other issues like, child molesters and serial killers, etc.
i don’t know the facts yet, but I believe it…i have a neighbor who’s a preacher at this small neighborhood church and he has a jaguar, maybe a few mercedes, a chyrsler 300 and maybe som other cars…and his church is kinda raggedy lookin…shouldn’t some of that money go toward the building fund?
He needs a big house so when visiting minsiters and their families come into town, t hey’ll have a big enough house for everybody.

oh my GOD, i dont if i should sound happy or satisfied, i have always had a profound disdain for church leaders across the world and even worse in the black community…i cant even count the number of times i have been engaged in heated arguments with some of my black peers about the lavish life style of these pastors..black churches are a hot mess and i hope they get thrown in jail, it didnt a rocket scientist to ask himself why with so many churches in predominantly black areas, the crime rate is high, promiscuity,teen pregnancies, drug abuse..damn some neighbourhoods have like 2 chruches per block and nothing is changing, how many black kids ahve these churches sent to college? how many black people have the churches helped find reasonable housing? i mean i just dont see what they do other becoming personally rich and celebrating homosexual unions..smh..lover have mercy

1. Creflo Dollar- Money/Prosperity
2. T.D. Jakes- Healing (spiritual and physical)
3. Kennneth Copeland- Prosperity
4. Benny Hinn- Healing
Research them first before talking about “People of God”. This is what the gov. is doing. Testing you hypothesis on those “thieves”. Just keep it simple before you have to answer to God for casting the first stone.

Where do I begin? Some of you really need to think and do some research before you speak.

Before you ask, yes I am a former member of Newbirth pastored by Eddie Long. I am also an independent thinker and leader. You make all these rants about what they should and shouldn’t have and where their money should go. 1st of all do you do all the things you are requesting of someone else? 2nd, how do you know that these things aren’t being done? Oh thats right you would not know because you were too busy making *****umptions. I personally know that they are committed to giving back. I’ll give you 3 examples:
1. Maternity Hospital in Africa
2. Hurricane Katrina *****istance
3. Paid my rent when my business slowed down
These pastors are rolling in the dough…yes…but they work hard. They write books, produce movies, speak across the world, etc. They are big dreamers…and you should be too. Stop limiting yourself and anybody else for that matter. Money = Access..point blank period! When you get some, you will understand.

Scripture is not definitive when it comes to faith and income. We could debate all day about certain scriptures and what they meant..but the point is God has created avenues for all of us to pursue and as long as you seek wealth legally, morally and ethically then do you!

I’m glad there’s been an official inquiry, but it’s no surprise to me that these two are snakes. They are not representative of all pastors, not even those who helm megachurches, but it’s pretty clear that these two are driven by something other than the holy spirit.
It’s too bad that other preachers aspire to be like them.
There is nothing wrong with a preacher living well, but when his church members are struggling to pay rent and steady emptying out their pockets in good faith that’s the problem. I hate to say this but sometimes we, as black people, love the biggest, flashiest, most expensive things. We love a “big timer” image. But when you can’t talk to your pastor because he has bodyguards surrounding him what purpose does he serve?

I guess Im so revved up by this because I was a part of “the megachurch family”…so I feel a certain kinship..and when anyone dishonors that, it makes me upset. Its like you talking about my biological family but you’ve never spent any time with us at all. It just doesnt make sense. That being said,
If church members are struggling to pay rent(like I once was) that is their fault. Like them, I was not disciplined with my finances. Im still on a journey to being 100% debt free. Either way when I needed help, they (the church) gave it to me. Not only that, but in order to receive the money I had to attend some finance cl*****es(provided by the church).
Talk to the pastor…it was never my thing to be his groupie so to speak..but there were several oc*****ions, that I spoke with him. I told him they shouldnt have hams for thanksgiving…lol..thats a long story nevermind.

It amazes me how so many people say that they hate black religious leaders so they dont go to church based on the fact that pastor has money.Would you have more respect for the pastor if all churches were super small and the pastor was a hobo and then you can say the pastor didnt take your money? Wake up The Pope/Vatican is by far and away the largest hustlers on the Planet they receive money from Countries!!! Well I go to church but not to a mega church. I have been in the church all of my life. I’ve seen hard hard many Pastors work. What people don’t understand is when Preachers preach it’s take a lot of energy and time. They are giving from their soul and it’s that alone is exhausting. You probably wouldn’t understand unless you knew them personally and were around them a lot. It really it’s a big job. Many of them are stressed because of all the work they do. I really believe they should be compensated well. Now I’m not talking about the one’s who take advantage of the system and are greedy. But what do you think, if someone’s ministry grows then so will their pocket. The more members you have the more they give. Everybody gets a raise on their jobs so why can’t a minister? People profit from all types of profession. Me personally I have several ministers in my family and I’ve seen the countless hours they put in. I’ve seen them exhausted, stressed and so tired. I’ve seen them direct the choir, sing, play the keyboard, drums, counsel people, preach, travel to preach in other places. They don’t spend their time sitting at home and taking vacations. When the church grows yeah they get different people to work in different areas but trust me most ministers are really busy and not just living high on the hog.
It’s easy for people to point the finger but I advise you to follow a minister around for a week and just see how much work they do. It’s not what you think.
There needs to be a Forbes list for preachers. And you know they would compete against each other. SMH
Oh and the comment about the church with atm. I think that is very conveniet. Just like when you go anywhere and want to buy something and there’s not atm. I don’t just carry cash like that. So I would like it if my church had a atm.

Preachers do not deserve props for doing the work they do- its a personal calling that they choose to answer. Doing the work of GOD honestly is a thankless job meant for the humble mainly because you’re not going around bragging about what you’ve done because GOD see all your works anyway

How did they get their money? They are being hated on because they are servants of God. So God has blessed them. So what? We will find no wrong doing. Watch. Actually I recently heard a sermon about Creflo explaining why he was preaching on prosperity. I totally understood. He said, and I can contest to this, that the black church was so use to thinking they had to be poor that he wanted to change their thinking on prosperity. I remember being in church and people preaching about being poor thinking we had to be condemned to a life of being poor just because we were living for God. He did say that he probably preached on it too long because people begin to go after just prosperity. I like how he corrected it. I think he’s a honest man.
Grant it, it does take money to run anything successful and growing, they can’t help that part, but careful how you work that IN ministry, don’t mince God’s words with finances the wrong way, that’s a very scary line to be walking when you have all these ppl who are living, breathing, salivating by the preacher’s words and his words alone.. I grew up in it,and I never seen such mindless leading and following before in my life, and soooo much time spent on FINANCES..something about that is not holiness, that’s not God..study yourself approved and Live by God’s Words..Consensus is he’s the only one you need to be worried about everyone else is subjective, ppl get too caught up in PEOPLE.
But for they’re own sake & salvation, hope it comes out clean… Creflo puts me to Sleep! he’s more of a TEACHER..

Living humbly has nothing to with your finances though. It’s your attitude. How do you know they don’t give to the poor and needy? Many of these churches if not all have outreach programs to feed the poor and needy. I just want to know why do people speculate when they don’t know something first hand?

Hey Pervster, broke busted and disgusted is not a bull***** church term as you stated. It is the reality of a lot of struggling people today. As far exposing the truth, what has been found? They have not been found guilty of anything. If you had millions at your finger tips from selling books and tapes, you wouldn’t buy yourself a nice little car house, etc. I do believe that God blesses people with finances so that they too help the needy and th e poor. But my prosperity is not tied to these men. My source is God and once I decide to start handling my finances (and life) like a faithful person, prosperity comes.
These guys deserve what they have. There is nothing wrong with being prosperous, in fact, God wants us to prosper. Look at Psalm 122:6-7 “Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: May those who love you prosper. May there be peace inside your walls and prosperity in your palaces.” This is God saying that He wants us to have prosperity in our home or even palace. What’s the definition of a palace? Palace- 1. the official residence of a king, queen, bishop, or other sovereign or exalted personage.
2. a large and stately mansion or building.
Now you don’t have to live in a mansion for God to declare you prosperous but obviously that verse includes a palace. We, Christians are also not called to give all our money away and just survive. God wants it to “be on earth as it is in Heaven.” And I promise Heaven is full of riches and mansions and there is no lack.

Proverbs 11:25 “The generous man will be prosperous, And he who waters will himself be watered.”
Creflo Dollar is an extremely generous man who follows God and is an excellent teacher which is why he is blessed. If you guys did some research instead of just believing anything you hear, you will know that Creflo has many times given his own jet away to soemone who really needed it at the time like Kenneth Copeland and others.
Even if you don’t believe in the Bible or even God, most people believe in getting back what you give whether its good or bad. In the Bible its stated this way in Luke 6:38 “Give, and you will receive. A large quantity, pressed together, shaken down, and running over will be put into your pocket. The standards you use for others will be applied to you.”
These guys aren’t crooks and tithing isnt stealing. These leaders don’t spend all the churches money on themselves. The investigation will prove it so do some research before you just accuse people of things.

Don’t you all get it? Congress is checkin’ for these people because their books might be cooked. Not because they’re rich. Pastor Dollar and Eddie Long aren’t the only rich, black ministers. Benny Hinn is on that list too. There are big ministries that have really transparent financial records that show where the money’s going, and then there are these cats who are suspect. If your pastor is on that list, you should be worrying about what’s going down with your offering, not whether or not Pastor Dollar is gonna be losing some bills.

pastors have always drivin the best cars cadillacs most of the time! The problem I have with these new age guys is that they are extravagant meaning wasteful spending more than is necessary. The bible tells us to have a humble spirit, to be mild, to be meek. These cars, houses, planes are in no way mild or meek. If they can live that good, the parishiners should be living as good. If they aren’t the pastors should be taking some of the funds they are givin to pay for members college, to help some members attend private school, to do so many things that are more important than having a rolls royce in the garage. It is good to be prosperous but I really think God is talking about being prosperous spiritually more than material gain.

You require nothing but love in your heart and a good spirit to “serve”. It doesn’t require money. Case in point.. My mother works at a residence that cares for men living with AIDS. The work she does brings her in contact with many charitable organizations. Around Halloween, one of these organizations delivered to her multiple bins (totaling about 1500 lbs) of candy. She took that candy, brought it back to the community, set up shop outside her residence and just gave it out to all the kids in the community.
Now you may say “it’s just candy”, but to a bunch of kids who have NOTHING this is the world. My mom has nothing, lives a very simple lifestyle and makes little money, but she said how good it made her feel to see the little faces lit up because of the what she was able to do on Halloween. She merely took a blessing and p*****ed it on the someone else.
You can be broke and encourage someone, broke and show them how to build something, homeless but teach someone else the right way, poor but educate someone. We ALL have something to give to this world.

I honestly had to stop reading some of these comments. Good Pastors deserve every good thing that happens to them, they are preaching the word of God, they are dealing with the burdens of the community, and they are the ones that you ask to pray for you when you mess up. Who cares that they have a nice house and car? Bishop Long gives his congregation the necessary tools to become wealthy, to own their own homes, to be the lender and not the borrower! You cant say that these pastors should be supporting the community and sending kids to school if u dont know. Thats exactly what NBMBC does!! Numerous community service as well as scholarship programs, so read and find out before using your hands to type ignorance. I was a recipient of college monies as well as a care package once a month from New Birth, so dont do me!! These pastors get these things because they deserve them. Once again these are men, human beings, not god and people need to realize that. Why wouldnt they want nice things? Who doesnt?

You have a point about the apples and oranges. I mention Andrew Young with Dollar & Long to *****ert the fact that they are in the public eye and yet carry themselves in a humble the same way and they are all wealthy.
I see your point about them misrepresenting the Word of God. But like I said that will ALL hopefully come to light soon. But even though I don’t attend World Changers, I can honestly say that he teaches on more than just prosperity. I can’t remember the exact year but around 2000-2002 he spent a year on the fundamentals of the bible and teaching us agape love, loving your enemy, etc. It’s not EVERY sermon he teaches on finances but 72% of the time. But when he does teaches on prosperity, he gives scriptures in the bible to how you say, back-up his teachings. I can’t tell you I use to go to church and leave with two college-ruled sheets on the lesson for the week! But all you hear him say is this, “If you don’t believe me, look it up in the bible.” He teaches his sheep to research for themselves. That on its own is what a good preacher should teach his people: Read the bible for yourself.
And like I stated earlier, those houses and cars are paid through books, tapes, endorsements, clothing lines, there record companies everything outside of the church. If that’s a lie then like I said, It will be brought to light and that’s bet. him and the good Lord and the IRS. I can say that the jet was paid for through the church around 2001 or 2003 -whenever World Changers started preaching in Africa for weeks at a time. It got expensive flying so much so frequently.
I get where you are coming from but I could only be like that if they were proven guilty. They are not. I can’t judge them so harshly and have a heavy heart. That will block what God has for me. And even after its all said and done, I wouldn’t get mad b/c God knew where my heart was in it all.

Also I want to say that a lot of these ministers have college degrees and have had businesses and careers before they became a minister. Also some have their own business on the side. My current Pastor was Creflo right hand man and he speaks of him very highly. My Pastor from what I know is very, very honest. Creflo’s wife came to speak at our church and she even told how they had a raggedy car and she went and bought another one while he was out of town but he made her take it back because they were in the process of getting their budget right. I can say my Pastor and Creflo have their own business on the side to support them as well.
You say it requires no payment but how do you expect for someone to live with no pay when they clearly spend all of their time in ministry. Why would you expect anyone to be poor just because you think they don’t deserve it. How are they to live then? If you all think about it, that doesnt make since for you to say they deserve no money because the joy is in giving. Well all of you who enjoy your jobs you should work for free then just because you enjoy it.

You see, if these guys wanted to be in the business of helping people build wealth, they should have become financial advisors, brokers and investment bankers. What they chose to do was enter into a realm where people are vulnerable, impressionable and seeking to have their souls saved; and they are not doing that at all. Have we forgotten the scripture that says that it is easier for a camel to p***** through the eye of a needle than a rich man to enter into the Kingdom of God??? You see, church should be teaching us about how to please God, how to improve our relationship with Him, how to work on our moral system to make ourselves acceptable unto Him. You cannot do that with all that other stuff in the way, becasue it SELF centers us…and it’s not about us, at least.. it SHOULD NOT be. Your point is well taken though.

Jesus father was God. God made wealth, he made civilization. Why would God need money? If Jesus needed anything while he was on earth financially he could’ve just made it appear. He came here for a purpose. He wasn’t to come here , establish a life, a family(wife and children) and live out the rest of his life. He came with one purpose and that was to die to save the world. So it doesn’t make any sense for people to say Oh Jesus was poor. Certain things he did not need because of his purpose.
Now he told us to be fruitful and multiply. He came to give us life and part of it is on this earth and whether you like it or not we need finances.
Certain things He did not need because they were unnecessary.

If God twinkled down to earth to live for two years, how would you view him? Would he be wearing a long white t-shirt w/ jeans? Would he be living with holes in his socks? Doubt it. I went to church two times a week. I took notes and spent time in the church. So I do believe I can say that he spends 72% of the time on prosperity/money/etc.

And about recieving payment for doing the lord’s work: not saying that you gotta be poor to do his work, but I have yet to meet a person wholely committed to serving GOD and concerned about aquiring wealth at the same time. You cant serve two masters. i always felt a preacher should be happy with free room and baord plus meals if your intentions are truly to live and work 24/7 for the lord- what else would you have time for?
I’ve heard him speak as well and I didnt get the 72% of the time. But also no one is perfect. If they are speaking on something that’s not Bible then they are wrong period. The truth will also come to the light.
There was a time when I thought Creflo was speaking on prosperity too much but once he explained what was going on I understood it. He was trying to pick the mind of the people up(black people) to stop them from thinking it’s ok to be poor.
I am a Christian, but I am wise enough to know God has nothing to do with me becoming rich. Just look at all rich people in the world, some are atheist/agnostic, some are muslim, and some are buddist.
Heck my father is rich and he has never paid a tithe in his life. My grandmother pay tithes, choir fees and usher board fees and can barely pay her rent. But I learned something from both of them.
Christianity is about love, not money. Christ had to be buried in a borrowed tomb, but he gave us salvation. Use your common sense. Christ came to save your souls, not to make us rich. Like my pastor said, if you have your rent and car note money in your purse, keep don’t give it to me. That’s your blessing. I can pray and tithe all I want, but if I don’t use the talents and common sense God gave me, I’ll be hungry and broke.
Only GOD can judge, so they will have to answer to him on Judgement Day for any wrongdoing!!

That’s funny you say you felt a preacher should. Why should they do what you feel? Are you just happy with room and board? Is that how you live? They are human you know. Especially when you have a family who in the world would only want room and board. Come on now God is a spirit he dont need eartly things and money. I don’t agree with you that the Bible is just essays or what have you. Lets just say it is true though. But just because someone is educated doesn’t mean they would know the truth about the Bible. I guess I can just chalk this up to being from the old school. Until I moved south a few years ago, I didn’t know that preachers were actually receiving a salary. I remember Bishop Shields having a job teaching in the New Haven School system. I also remeber Rev. Bynes being a janitor in school. These were their PAYING jobs. If they preached and received a “love offering” over $100.00, that was reason to celebrate! I guess those days are long gone.

YES! I visited one here once where there is indeed, an ATM machine in their lobby. I also visited one (was asked to sing in a women’s day celebration) that the Bishop had a hand held ATM device!!!! His exact words were (once he explain what it was to the congregation) “If you don’t know, now you know”. I’ll never forget that. I’ll never forget the fact that they didn’t pay me my $75.00 either!

Absolutely False. Christianity was adopted as the official religion of Rome because over 100 years after killing Jesus, his movement was still gaining momentum. And in order to prevent a revolution against the government, they picked up christianity as the official religion and its been as such ever since. Christianity did not exist before Jesus, and Jesus himself though born a jew, was widely considered to belong to a nostic sect of believers.
That’s the problem I have discussing religion is that most people have never studied religion and are commenting and making debate based on a faith perspective, with no facts. I used to be that way too,a true beleiver, until GOD blessed me with some understanding- now I believe in GOD only.

Look offering has to be taken to make the church go around. To pay the lights and all the church bills so it can stay open. Then the Pastor so that he can live and take care of his family so he can basically be there for the church at all times. How do you expect for the church to be open without them taking up money. And of course money comes from peoples paychecks. Where else would if come from??????? Between your toes? How are Pastors taking people’s money out of their paychecks? Do you even go to church?

I dont live for religion. Don’t care to have it. I don’t like religious people(if you know what I mean). I do believe in Jesus. I believe he died for my sins and is the way to heaven. I won’t debate over religion but I will stand up for God and his son Jesus. I don’t care to be called a christian or whatever label people put on it. I care to live by Gods word and do what he told us to do. Love him with my whole heart and love my neighbor as myself. Live with good morals. Treat people how I would like to be treated.

If they are educated in other areas, then why are they preaching? Saving souls is a lobor of love, not a part time job. And just so we’re clear, preachers need degrees too, in theology. So with that said, I was saying that they know the fallacy of religion and choose not to expose this fallacy to the m*****es, and rather take advantage of the m*****es as others through religion have done as well.
It’s ridiculous how some of these so called preachers live while some of their members are probably living paycheck to paycheck but still breaking their neck to pay their tithes.

My sister-in-law attends one of thoes Mega churches in Texas and you have to “contribute nicely” for your parking/seat if you want a good one and the pastor gives his sermon in his office and he braodcasts it on huge screens (sorta like the Whiz), and then has a restaurant, coffee shop and bookstore all in the lobby.
Funny thing is that you never see him in person, and when he gives his “special ticket sermons” he has bodyguards that whisk him into his vehicle afterwards.

Besides I’m not the one to judge. however in this case lets equate evil with un christ like…and in that sense yeah these dudes worry me, cuz whether jesus owned everything or not, he certainly didn’t flaunt wealth as an indicator of heavenly blessings. I’ve wanted to preach at a poit in my life when i was younger, and being rich and wealthy played no part in my choice. When I wanted to do it- it was for the love not the money.

I’d like to know how many of guys actually took the time to pray for these men? No man can ever stop me from going into the house of the Lord and praising Him. Stop using man as the reason why you refuse to fulfill your duty to go to church and praise Him. Your reason for going to church is not to worship the pastor, it’s too get the word of God and magnify Him. You are no better than they are if these alledged allegations are in fact true. Last time I checked God didn’t need our help in judging, He needed us to know Him and to make Him known, not to point fingers. When you point your finger at others look down and see the three that are pointing back at you. Now any of you that are perfect and without sin, please cast that first stone. Please understand that you can’t. And as far as tithing goes that 10% is for the Lord, it has nothing to do with man, now if they choose to spend it on a car or what have you let God take care of that, you take care of your own duties. I know the real people of God can feel me on what I am saying because we know our reason for going to church and paying our tithes. When its time for your judgement are you going to tell God that you didn’t go to church and pay your tithes because pastor was a thief?

In this day and age it is quite evident that this world is in its last days, folk need to be in church. They shouldnt talk about finances in church? Are you serious? Most of the people in church wouldn’t hear about it if they didnt go! They dont go to financial advisors and bankers…that is the whole point. These churches are “whole”istic in the respect that they deal with many social issues as well as your salvation. I’m glad the government is checking on suspect preachers. If they aren’t doing anything wrong, they have nothing to worry about. If they are, they should be plenty worried. And let that be a lesson to anyone else who thinks they want to be a “minister” and rake in the dough!

This is kind of crazy to me. All these years, I’ve been led to believe that God would manifest as someone in need or a humble soul…
Also, I don’t know how it is in every denomination, but I know that in some, preachers receive some sort of salary from their governing body, so they don’t have to live off of their followers’ money.

The prosperity and “name and claim it” ministries ARE some of the most damaging and DECEPTIVE ministries out there. There are people, who have worked for mega million dollar ministries, that have seen gross adulteries, theft, lying, money laundering, drugs, illicit sex, you name it. RESEARCH IT.

We are folks still preaching about money being “root of all evil” and materialism is a bad thing, etc., etc. when look at the lavishness and materialism going on with these churches….
I had to go yesterday but my Pastor showed in the Bible how ministers got paid. It was 3 different ways. Really, really interesting. #1 was through the church(I believe that they are suppose to get all the tithes). #2 Was they had their own businesses. #3 Was others who chose to fund them personally. My Pastor stated that he gets absolutely no money from the church(by choice). He chose #3 because he never wanted it to be said that he was taking the churches money. He said that he has people who are not even in our church that volunteered to give him money so he won’t have to worry. He is from a mega church and has a lot of different people he knows.
This was really interesting because I always *****umed all Pastors got paid from the church.
To all who are here who have posted their comments on this issue. I want to ask how many of you or christians and read their word daily. I am a born again beliver and i use to think just like you,but later I learned through reading GODS good and perfect word that. The blessings of the lord maketh one rich and adds no sorrow with it(provebs10:22). The word also tells us that if you in all your evil can give good gifts to your own children,then how much better gifts will he who is rightous give to his children who he also considers rightous.Do you not know that through his ministry that thousands of people world wide is being saved and helped.You evil,wicked and perverse generation. I pray that when he comes may he have mercy on your souls.Therefore be quick not to judge things that you don’t understand, and things that come from heaven. It is not up to you to judge anyone but him who sits on high,and you in all your evil ways will also be judged.

If you read the word it will tell you that their duty is to go out and fellowship and help your brothers and sisters with their issues. That is impossible with these “mega” churches that have so many members the pastor dosent even know your name, and you have to schedula an appt. Just to talk to them!! Nico, the church was NEVER intended to be a place that would be a haven for those engaging in financial dealings, thus Jesus driving the money changers from the temple. Why?

I don’t know anything about celebs on the front row. We don’t have any. We had the Sheriff though but he never sits on the front row. When I’ve seen some of these big churches on tv I haven’t seen celebs on front row. Some in the crowd but not very many.
first off, Jesus said that He is the truth(Jhn 14:6), so anything that is or was done in the dark will come to light, no matter how much you try to cover it. so IF there is any wrong doing, trust that it will be exposed.
to the message that asked if financial education is is being done during the course of the service, i’d have to say yes. my pastor speaks on if often, had done series on the subject, has written a book on ’smart money management’, offers sms cl*****es, advises us to invest, by property, open ira’s, 401ks,529s and so on. homes and cars have been PURCHASED and paid for for people in the congregation, foodbanks have been established in our ministry an the list goes on. so you can not catagorize all preachers as being theives. especailly those who use the excuse that ‘i don’t go to church because…’ that’s a freakin’ crock! your purpose for attending is not for the pastor, but for seekings God’s face and His presence and if you not feelin’ him, you most def should not be there (Prv 1:5 …a wise man….will aquire good counsel…)
so many people come in the church doors lookin for something to talk about. we need to change our focus…
not to mention, in bible study, just last night, my pastor spoke on leaving an inheritance for your childrens children. so even if financial stability isn’t being taught every where, rest *****ured that it is being taught some place. to add, he has spoken on having 3-6 mos saved…
As someone who has attended both of these churches and who knows Bishop on a more personal level I feel comelled to post. I wont get into a religious debate or quote scriptures, I just want to help your debate with facts. Bishop Long does not recieve a salary, he has not recieved a salary in more than 7 years. All of the money he receives from the church is through a love offering which the congregation knows is for him. You are encouraged to tithe, as any responsible pastor would do, however they dont ask for your W-2’s or financial earnings, you put your money in an envelope and put it in the basket like anywhere else. Bishop oersonally paid my brothers, and several of his friends way through college, and in Atlanta, attending an HBCU, that is alot of money. I have witnessed him give cars to single mothers during service, pay off peoples mortgages, and clothe and feed the hungry. When I myself was out of work and close to nothing, I had not to worry but just ask. Bishop is also an author, playwrite, motivational speaker, and business man. If you research his wealth comes mostly from BELL ministries, which has nothing to do with his church. And for those that will say “why isnt preaching enough, why does he need to have businesses?” Well make up your mind, at first you were mad that he was living off the church, now your mad cuz he is making his own money. Who are we to say the gifts the Lord has given these men. They have saved tens of thousands of souls, brought people to salvation that may not otherwise have come. Look at their good works, not their manly mistakes. How many people have we told about the goodness of God today….before this post. Maybe if we started saving lives by the thousands we would gain riches too. And for the one who said something about those following false prophets and so forth. Bishop preached a sermon for you too, he said that he is but man given a message. It is up to you to recieve the message, and be spiritually accountable for yourself. In otherwords stop looking to the pastors for anything more then the word, give your tithe because that is what God said and we will all be alright.

T.D Jakes isn’t being investigated because he doesn’t take a salary from his church,he makes money through motivational speaking,writing book,making cds,movies,etc.He’s not trying to cheat his congregation outta their money,he’s trying to teach them a better way of life and to empower themselves.Creflo Dollar preaches more about money than any other Pastor I’ve seen,yes the Lord wants us all to be prosperous but I don’t think he meant through materialistic things.Some of these pastors are living in multimillion dollar homes while some members of their flock are being evicted,do they take them in,no.I can’t see givivng all my money to a mega church that’s getting paid off people that are barely making it and living check to check.

Yes, Im using that statement to validate my argument. Alot of things and places were NEVER intended for certain people or certain practices. But it is a different time now and things have changed…some for the better.
I agree that it is peoples fault if they dont seek out ways to improve their life, but at the same time some of us need a match lit under our butts to perform. Everyone is not born with exceptional initiative to “do for themselves”! I was one of those people. My parents had money so I became very lazy as it related to finances. It wasnt until I went to NewBirth did my thoughts change…and not just about money but about personal and spiritual relationships. Again, I say that it was a well-rounded experience for me. The education is there…there were many times that we didnt have a “normal” church service…he sat and talked to us about family, faith and finance. Did he tell us about breakthroughs? yes..but please know that in the same sermon he told us that faith without works is dead. He also said that its not the amount of money we make but what we do with what we have…and if we are good stewards over that, then the lord will increase our capacity because he knows we can handle it.
Let me say this..I was skeptical about going to NB because of all the “crap” I had heard. A friend of mine invited me…I went..with my arms folded and a terrible attitude. I had to check myself and change my attitude. I asked God to guide me to be open to whatever it is Im supposed to receive…and the rest is history.
We are all entitled to our opinions…but you and so many other people on here have never had the experience, but you have so much to say. It just doesn’t make sense to me. I know you thought you were done with this thread..but so did I. Its all love….hopefully. Peace

I take GREAT delight in telling you that not only do I go to church, but I am a baptized CHRISTIAN. Thankfully, I have a church FAMILY. We all know each other, my minister is merely one of the flock himself and understands that he has responsibilty to God to EVANGELIZE and leave the running of the church to the ELDERS, the way Christ intended it to be.
My “congregation” decides semi-annually where every dime of the church funds is spent; from the minister’s fair and liveable salary to every outreach ministry, to administrative costs, to the gas in the church bus. We literally vote on these things, deaconships, etc. by “yea or nay” consensus WITH church budget spreadsheets in our hands..

So don’t talk to me about church transparency, worship and all that. I might hide behind silliness from time to time on these blogs out of fun, but don’t be fooled.

The world is the way it is because people lack respect for one another. What I believe is MY belief, and I will express that to others. My Father wants me to know Him and make Him known I am fulfilling my duty to Him. I stand for something that is positive in my life, that keeps me going everyday. To be quite candid If a preacher who preaches the word of god, and is true in his/her intentions to spread god love, his/her heart is filled with warmth and comp*****ion to their congregation, never to take advantage of the people, but rather to give out of pocket to the people in their congregation or community that needs help.A true servant of the lord is humble and materialistic things are never on the agenda.A true servant of the lord wealth would be in bringing people back to the lord by accepting christ as their personal lord and savior. In conclusion this is what our heavenly father expects from all of his children (1) To love one another as we love ourself (2) to love him and serve him, and the way to love him and serve him goes back to (1).By following these two steps we will be on our way to happiness and heaven door.

The only thing they’re investigating is rather or not there income is being reported to the IRS. I noticed a lot of gossip about there ministers are from people from the outside looking in. The bulk of the money these pastors and ministers recieve are from books, cd’s, videos etc. As being a witness for Bishop Eddie Long, & Creflo Dollar, I personally see how the ministers take care of there communities. Exp. Meals are not only given during Thanksgiving & Christmas, meals are given at all time. Programs are being offered for people in need of housing. Free cl*****es are being offered for people to get there credit on track, and a host of other good things are being offered. To make a long story short. These ministers are not hurting us, we can only hurt ourselves. If we feel there doing other things with the money we give, don’t give at all. Personally I give to GOD and not the pastor. What ever the pastor decides to do after I’ve given what I’m supposed to give, that’s between the pastor & GOD. =)

Look beyond the natural allegations and see the bigger spiritual picture. This request to see personal financial records is to cast doubt and smear not these individuals, but the real target is the church – The Body of Christ. See – 1 Corin 2:14
Millions upon millions of lives have been touched and changed by these individuals and the ministries they head up. How can you put a price on saving someone’s marriage, getting children and parents to have a loving relationship, challenge men to be men in their homes and community, put down the uninformative entertainment news and pick up a newspaper, a business magazine, hold financial and debt-freedom seminars, home-buying seminars, second chance checking clinics, health symposiums, overcoming depression, etc – How much is that worth? How much would a wife be willing to pay to have her husband come off of drugs or how much would a child pay to stop being molested? Don’t allow the media or some media hungry Senator to destroy your faith.
Anytime good is done – there will be some hateration. The Pharisees, Saducees and the Sandhedrins had a great disgust and openly hated Jesus, even though he was bringing hope, healing and good news to the people. Through God’s grace, Peter healed a man sitting in front of the Temple, and the haters came out against them.
What most people are not aware of is the number of individuals that that have been positively impacted by these ministries. Bishop Long has sent a host of students to school on his on dime. Did you know that Bishop Long has personally purchased vehicles and hand-capped equipped vehicles for an untold number of families? He has personally paid off famlies debt and caught up mortgage payments to avoid foreclosures. You will never hear this on the nightly news.
How much have you given in your time or resources to help the poor, hospitals, elderly, helping a single mother get a child in college? With the same brush that you are judging these individuals and ministries with, judge yourself.
For all who have used the rational that this is why you do not go to church, then truth be told, you never planned on going anyway. Do you go to church to look at man or to have an encounter with The Holy God?
In Philippians 4:11, 12 – The Word says to be content whether abased (poverty) or abound (prosperity). So seeing that God has prospered them then let they be content in their abounding. They should not feel any condemnation for their abounding.
So let us be wise and have an understanding heart of discernment to understand the real purpose of these attacks. Don’t get upset over these smear tactics, especially seeing that you yourself personally have not provided any contribution to these ministries. Instead contact your Senator and Congressman and question them on the abuse and misuse of your tax dollars, which we see little to no return. If this is not the kettle speaking against the pot – . Now that’s hypocritical!!!

Did anyone here the outcome from Creflo’s church? It told how much the church took in last year. Also that he doesn’t get anything from the church to live off of. But the church did give him a gift.
I dont understand why lately everyone is on ministers for how they are living, what they are driving, etc. These people have been living in these houses for years and NOW suddenly its a problem. Where is it written at in the bible where Christian have to be poor. It aint in there. I will never forget when Dion Sanders became a Christian. Some idiot asked him, well Mr. Sanders, now that you have accepted God into your life, are you going to give away your home and cars. He was like…why? He earned those things from his football career. Why would someone ask an stupid question like that? Simple. Because for some odd reason people in this world think that Christians are suppose to live beneath everyone. One of six Christian ministries under investigation by a Senate committee is rebuffing inquiries into its spending, challenging the panel’s watchdog role over religious groups, The *****ociated Press has learned.

A lawyer for preacher Creflo Dollar of World Changers Church International in suburban Atlanta has asked Sen. Charles Gr*****ley to either refer the matter to the IRS or get a subpoena, according to a letter from Dollar’s attorney obtained Wednesday by the AP.
Gr*****ley, the ranking member of the Senate Finance Committee, sent pointed questionnaires in early November to a half-dozen ministries, asking about salaries, perks, travel and oversight. The Iowa Republican set Thursday as the deadline for a response.
All six organizations preach a form of the “prosperity gospel,” the belief that God wants his faithful followers to reap material rewards.
Besides Dollar, several other televangelists have signaled concerns about invasions of privacy and violations of religious freedom. Only Joyce Meyer Ministries of Fenton, Mo., has provided the detailed financial and board oversight information sought by Gr*****ley.
Dollar’s refusal could lead to a court fight, giving a judge the authority to decide whether the committee is entitled to all the information it requested.
Gr*****ley emphasized the other five still have time. The senator also reiterated that his probe “has nothing to do with church doctrine” and is strictly concerned with making sure the tax-exempt groups are following the law.
Dollar has been the most vocal in his criticism of the probe. In the Nov. 27 letter obtained by the AP, Dollar attorney Marcus Owens wrote to Gr*****ley and Sen. Max Baucus, the Finance Committee chairman, that the church is willing to comply with a “proper” request for information — but it should be handled by the IRS.
Owens, the former director of the IRS’s exempt organizations division, pointed to precedent: In the 1980s, a House subcommittee asked the IRS to review concerns about televangelists.
“A referral would permit Senator Gr*****ley and the Senate Finance Committee to discharge their obligation to oversee federal tax administration without running the risk of government entanglement in the Church’s religious beliefs and practices,” the letter said.
An IRS review also would ensure privacy, Owens wrote. All IRS reviews are confidential, and Dollar has said he worries that a Senate probe might air sensitive information about salaries, among other things.
Failing a referral to the IRS, Owens requested that the committee seek subpoenas to “provide an appropriate legal context for the review.” With a subpoena, the church and its members could gain confidentiality protections.
Joyce Meyer Ministries expressed confidence last week that it would be found in “complete compliance” with financial regulations.
The organization also addressed one of the more salacious details in the letter from Gr*****ley — its reported purchase of a $23,000 “commode with marble top.” The ministry said it was not a common toilet but a “a tall elegant chest of drawers,” and that the selling agent got the price wrong.
Aside from Dollar and Meyer, the other televangelists have been noncommittal in their public responses. But some have voiced strong objections that echo Dollar’s about privacy and religious freedom.
Bishop Eddie Long, who leads a megachurch and ministry in Lithonia, Ga., initially promised to “fully comply” with Gr*****ley’s request. But a few days later, Long told his congregation the request was “unjust,” “intrusive,” and “an attack on our religious freedom and privacy rights.”
The others who received letters from Gr*****ley are Randy and Paula White of Without Walls International Church and Paula White Ministries of Tampa, Fla.; Benny Hinn of World Healing Center Church Inc. and Benny Hinn Ministries of Grapevine, Texas; and Kenneth and Gloria Copeland of Kenneth Copeland Ministries of Newark, Texas.
Owens said in an e-mail to the AP that while each ministry is “separately responding as it sees fit,” lawyers for the ministries have been in touch and share common concerns about Gr*****ley’s request.
The letter from Dollar’s attorney describes the prosperity gospel as a “deeply held religious belief” grounded in Scripture, and that the six churches are part of the “rich tapestry of religion in America” deserving of protection.
Some legal scholars believe the Senate is a proper forum to review religious nonprofit groups’ finances — although with caveats.
Congress has a legitimate interest in making sure nonprofit rules are followed because confidentiality rules make it hard to track IRS enforcement, said Marc Stern, general counsel of the American Jewish Congress, who advises religious groups on church-state issues.
“On the other hand, Congress is a very blunt instrument,” he said. “Congressional hearings are hardly models of due process and they can pick on anything they want for any reason they want and that raises real concern. So there’s this pull in both directions.”

People usually use the prosperous to p***** off their own shortcomings. Its easy to say people have lied cheated and stole to get where they are so that we dont have the responsibility to be better ourselves. “I dont go to church because people are hypocrites.” is the dumbest excuse to not get next to God. You dont go to church for the people, you go for the relationship with God. So to everyone who hates Creflo or anyone like him, please let God weed them out and take yourself to a good bible based church. As I was saying I have family members that attend Bishop Eddie Long’s church. What they both do is teach you to have a different way of thinking about GOD’S word and life in general! Jesus did not come here and give his life so that we could be broke, busted and disgusted! He came that we might have life and have it more abundantly(look up John 10:10) Since I have attend this church my WHOLE life has changed(hence the name) even my financial outlook! There is nothing wrong with the prosperity gospel I am going to enjoy my life!!! While you all sit here and worry about the type of homes and cars these men of GOD are buying, why dont you take some time and make out a plan for your own life so that you can be prosperous as well. Do you know what type of time and dedication it takes to pastor churches of this size?? With the things I have learned I think these men should be compensated well.
