I actually did think it was funny. The Wayans brothers have always pushed the envelope (see in Living Color). In this sense the term hoe is applied without thought to actual sexual practice, but in terms of the socio-economic first impression the female illicits. The first thing Imus said was that they were “rough looking.. them some nappy headed hos”. I didn’t disagree with him. I think that’s what Damon was getting at. Intent and context are so very important in trying to discern what Wayans meant when he said Imus was right. Unfortunately, Wayans did not take the opportunity to explain what he meant. If Wayans was just joking, as a comedian, he ought to have known that any joke that need to be followed by an explanation isn’t really worth telling.

Me neither! I stopped perming my hair at the age 15 and I’m glad I did. Suprisingly, I was never teased by my cl*****mates for wearing my hair natural. But I started wearing locks when I was 18, so it’s long down to my back and I’m loving it!

I think that your perspective undermines the talent, skill-set/capabilities, intellect and confidence that some of us bring to the table, in spite of how our hair is “did”.

The point that I’ve made over and over is not justification. It’s calling wrong for wrong and right for right. I’ve already said that Imus was wrong, repeated!!! I never said you “had” to change your hair but if that will get your foot in the door where as if you were rocking that natural doe they wouldn’t then what’s the harm. I am glad that there are places that accept people for how they are but not every place does. There have been law suit against companies that fired their employees that had hair styles that were too ethnic. The people sued and DID NOT WIN although it’s a clear case of discrimination.
