Amber Mitchell loves her new blond hair.
“I thought blonde would look good. I never dyed my hair in my life. I figured it’s a new look,” says Amber. But she says her bosses at Abercrombie & Fitch don’t feel the same.
“She says you’ll have to dye your hair back to brown. That color isn’t natural and you can’t work with this color,” Amber recounts.
Amber, a student at Penn State Abington, tells FOX 29 that she was sent home twice this past week from her job at the Abercrombie & Fitch Store at Willow Grove Park after dying her hair. She says for a store that flaunts it’s fashion, her new look was against the rules.
“They thought it was a problem. And I didn’t understand it was a problem since my manager has the same color hair as I do, just different skin,” says Amber.
Amber says she hasn’t been fired, but her schedule was cut from five-days a week to one-day a week. And she says she was told she can’t work until she dyes her hair back to her original color.
A family friend got the shock of a lifetime when she went with Amber to confront the store manager herself…
“The manager told her she could not work the floor because the color of her hair wasn’t natural. But if she dyed her eyebrows maybe it would work,” says Arlene Gay, Amber’s friend.
FOX 29′s Chris O’Connell went to the store for answers, but a manager told him to leave.
Three times O’Connell called the company’s Ohio headquarters, but he couldn’t get past a receptionist. He emailed, searched the company’s website, and tried twitter. Chris o’connell is still waiting for a response from an Abercrombie & Fitch official.
“You can’t judge a person by their hair color. It’s not right. It’s not right,” says Amber Mitchell.
Unfortunately Amber, Abercrombie don’t give a f*** about what’s right, they want their colored employees to look “natural”…just like their naturally blonde employees with breast implants.
