Bey and her “single trannies” have given the gays more to dance about. The popular gay pride dance, J-Setting , has gone full mainstream:

“It’s kind of a risk when you’re introducing something underground,” says JaQuel Knight, 19, the co-choreographer, with Frank Gatson, of Beyoncé’s sensational, sensual videos “Single Ladies (Put a Ring On It)” and the follow-up “Diva”—which brought J-Sette culture from local dancefloors and into the international limelight. “There’s the fear that people will get upset if it’s not done right.” J-Setting is a lead-and-follow style of dancing that requires the body to move to an eight-beat count: One, two— high knee kicks defy gravity. Three, four—hips gyrate from left to right. Five, six—arms and hands slice the air. Seven, eight—heads jerk up and down to the bassline. According to JaQuel, it was Frank Gatson who introduced the J-Sette technique to Beyoncé. “Frank didn’t know the name of it, but I did,” says JaQuel, who grew up in Georgia and taught himself to dance by imitating routines from television. He started putting together choreography for local acts, eventually working his way up to dancing with Diddy, Janet Jackson, and Soulja Boy. After catching the eye of legendary choreographer Fatima, he graduated high school and moved to Los Angeles to pursue his dreams full \time. “Beyoncé wanted to do something really different,” says JaQuel, “because she had done everything.” He and Frank sat Beyoncé in front of the computer and showed her YouTube clips of people J-Setting. “We were like, ‘Are you sure?’ and she was like, ‘Let’s do it.’”

In case you’ve never seen it…check out this “battle” below…

    Wow, so Hot beauties!!!
hope they are just group of the hot cougars and milfs like I once met from ^^^^__ Ageless Mate. C om__^^^ ; anyways, they are looking for a kill there… don’t be caught!! haha lol

  • Pooter

How is this underground? HBCU dance teams have been doing this for years — fraternities and sororities too.

  • yparker

This ain’t nothing new…ALL down South drill team/dance team members have been doing this for yrs! And better than the ‘boyz’ on the
    YouTube video.

  • Kaviani

Yeah, nothing new; it’s just new to the Berlin and Amsterdam queens. Even K-pop videos do it.

(Still think soulja boy’s dance is better!)

  • da’ Truth Ruth!!!

That’s just VOGUING with some real down home country flava’ thrown in!!!

Same type of people, Gay Guys and F*g Hags doing the dance, that loved Voguing in the 80′s and 90′s.

  • KayStar

Look what bey has done now!

  • BLKZILLA

I THINK THEY MEANT “UNDERGROUND” IN THE SENSE THAT NO POP ARTIST HAVE EVER USED THIS ART FORM OF J-SETTING IN THIER DANCE ROUTINES LIKE BEYONCE DID! SO IN A SENSE IT HAS BEEN “UNDERGROUND”

  • BEAMERBUNNY504

DURING MARDI GRAS HERE ALL OF THE DANCE TEAMS FROM BLACK COLLEGES AND HIGHSCHOOLS DANCE LIKE THIS TO THE HOTTEST MUSIC. BEEN GOING ON SINCE I WAS BORN. ITS NOT CALLED J SETT HERE, ITS CALLED SHAKING YOUR ASS!

  • rell

Atlanta has some really talented black men

  • kensington

No, this isn’t that modelwalk stuff. This is like vogueing.

  • High Life (Perfect Imperfections)

The Queens are in full effect. Stop it I say.

  • Southern Girl

I rarely comment here but J-Settes are from JACKSON STATE UNIVERSITY here in Mississippi & are arguably the best dancers in the HBCU which is where the name came from. It’s not underground in any sense, we in the south that attended black schools, be it jr high, high school, or college dance this way in our bands. Thats almost insulting to not acknowledge where the name & alot of those dances came from.. I agree Pooter, HBCUs have been doing it for DECADES. Give credit where its due.

  • Lambo J

This is just too gay for me. lol.

  • Glok9n: The real glok !!!

AAAHHH HAAAA!!! @ ALL YOU BYTCH AZZ NIGGRZ THAT WAS TALKING ABOUT HOW YOUD SCREW ALL 3 OF THEM HOES ……YEAH A TRANNY WAS ONE OF THEM 3 BYTCHES ..FAG AZZ NIGGRZ!….FUK BEYONCE SHEZ A SATANIC SHE DEVIL! I NEVER WATCH HER OR LISTEN TO HER MUSIC…..FUK HOW SHE LOOK!

  • Miss_Missy

That shit ain’t underground. I was on dance/drill team in hs and we did the same stuff. We just had a couple of niggas at our games who would copy us cause they were made the principal wouldn’t let boys on the dance team.

Check youtube for some old footage of Jackson State JSettes, Morris Brown Bubbling Brown Sugar, Bethune Cookman 24k Dancers, etc. Hardly anything new.

  • blazinyella

yea dance teams have being doin this for a long time but it comes from the gay community….to see this in the gay club is wild

  • Sticky-n-Sweet

This is called vogueing, Bossip, and my high school and HBCU dance teams do this, and have done it for years. But I guess since I’m not up on gay culture, I wouldn’t know what it’s called….

  • blazinyella

i have 2 friends(Male) that are the dance teachers for 2 major universities…gay people are the best i swear…….lol

  • Nikki

It’s so sad that the credit for J-Setting has been ripped from the HBCU’s mainly JACKSON STATE UNIVERSITY’s J-Settes! The gay community has been immitating this for years and it didn’t start with them at all. Check it out for yourself: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g3MFsEzPlFY

  • http://www.k.com noelle

Uh oh gay pride in the house! Time for me and Ye to do the Heisman on some hoes!

  • WorkingWoman

Ok, let make sure we give REAL credit where it is due. This is not new at all I am a former dance team memebr of ESSENCE of TROY from Virginia State University and HBCU dance lines have been doing this for years. When the video came out at least 5 of my gurls called me up, talking about, “OMG, they look like us”, or “Gurl did you see them do our double hip”. Also this Jett Setting thing started b/c most dance lines do not have guys. So since that is the case they began to start there own thing by remixing what they see from the HBCU dance lines……AGAIN I would just like to say THIS AINT NEW PPL. Go to Honda Battle of the Bands or take a look at any Youtube of HBCU dance lines and you will clearly see that this style of dance has been done for years by WOMEN!!!!!!

  • WorkingWoman

Oh and my bad I meant J-Sett not Jett Setting…… but again J-Sett came from Jackson State.

  • Lady Architect (TGIF!)

uH HOW BOUT NO! LIKE MANY OTHER PEOPLE SAID IN THIS POST. THIS STYLE OF DANCING HAS BEEN GOING ON IN HBCUS FOR YEARS. IT WAS GAY MEN WHO WANT TO LOOK LIKE WOMEN SO BAD THAT WOULD WATCH DRILL TEAMS AND LEARN THE MOVES. SAME THING THEY DID WITH VOGUEING. ALL THE VIDEO DID WAS GIVE GAY MEN MORE MEANS TO TRY AND CALL THEMSELVES “LADIES”

  • Jackson State Grad

I agree with all those that say this isnt new…You better ask somebody about Jackson State J-Setts and other HBCU dancing girls…Where beyonces come a dime a dozen!!!!

  • http://www.bet.com cori

OMG FIRST OF DANCE TEAMS GOT IT FROM GAY GUYS.. B4 BLACK SCHOOLS WERE EVEN DOING THAT… GAY GUYS HAVE BEEN J-SETTIN UNDERGROUND AS FAR BAK AS THE EARLY 80S

  • http://www.tajwashington.com Taj

Wow…that video was many things. I felt like I was at the last Fish-N-Chips convention!

  • LovelyLisa

Yep, J-Setting in old news where I’m from. What ya’ll need to see is those little elementary school dance teams J-Sett. They are far too young to be dancing like that, but they are very good.

  • told you so

chick on the left is a dude?

  • SHAWNIEROCKEST

HBCU HAVE BEEN DOIN THIS FOREVER IN HIGHSCHOOL OUR BAND DID THE SAME THING ITS A SHAME THAT THEY HAVE TO PUT A NAME ON SOMETHING THATS ALREADY KNOWN

  • lace

oh god…booty busters…it just looks odd for black men to be gay.

  • JSU Alum

To the person who said “OMG FIRST OF DANCE TEAMS GOT IT FROM GAY GUYS.. B4 BLACK SCHOOLS WERE EVEN DOING THAT… GAY GUYS HAVE BEEN J-SETTIN UNDERGROUND AS FAR BAK AS THE EARLY 80S”

Please get your history straight the Prancing J-Settes were founded in 1970 and set the stage for all these knock-offs you see today. The gay’s might love it and Bey may have put it in a video but the MIGHT PRANCING J-SETTES made the mold.

    JSU ROCKS THE HOUSE!

  • soulwoman

Um…there is nothing new about this dance.

Beyonce look stupid dancing in the Diva video.

  • T-fab!!!

Bossip need to stop, the dancer to the left is not the choreographer for the video as many are claiming

  • T OTAL

like jackson state grad said j-setting come from jsu and other hbcu’s. JSU dominated this dance for a long time and still does. I know b/c my cousin was one of the best for J-SETTE dance line from 88-92. like anything else that gay men steal from women they took this by storm. im not hating though b/c them hoes be gettin it in. Go JSU.

  • da’ Truth Ruth!!!

    Let thhis be a LESSON:

The LIGHTEST person who takes it to HOLLYWOOD 1st racks in ALL the rewards and credit!!!

Sorry, J Setts. To Far South and too dark!!!!

  • T TOTAL

AND THAT WEAK ASS VIDEO OF THOSE IDIOTS DOING THE J-SETTE IS SHAMEFUL. FIND A REAL VIDEO HOMEY! U GUYS ARE ALWAYS TRYING TO DOWNPLAY SOUTHERN STUFF MAKING IT LOOK ALL COUNTRY AND SHIT.

  • gayer than christmas and new years

Is it just me, or is something smouldering?

    Where are the MEN BOSSIP?

    LESBIANS EWWWWWWWWW

  • @ Da Poet

    What da hell?!

  • Junk

Bossip…puleeze stop. The dancer on the left is a woman. They all are…you are disgusting and homophobic.

  • WIFEY06

    1. i TOLD YA’LL MEN YOU GUYS WERE ONE STEP AWAY FORM #UCKING MEN. BEYONCE GONNA BE THE FIRST ONE TO TURN YA’LL OUT.

    2. KEEP LIKING ALL THESE CHICKS WITH FAKE BUTTS, TITS, AZZ, LIPS, NOSE, ETC. YOU DON’T A WOMAN ANYWAY.

    3. KEEP GLORIFYING GIRL ON GIRL ACTION INTHE MEDIA WHILE THE MEDIA MAKES SURE TO SLIP ALL THE FAGS INTO MAINSTREAM VIA THE BACK DOOR.

    4. NOT A HOMOPHOBIC( WORD CREETED TO INTIMIDATE OTHER ONTHEIR OPIION) JUST KEEPING IT REAL!! I BEEN SID A GAY MAN HAD TO HAVE MADE CHOREGRAPHED THAT DANCE AL THAT FAKE HAND MOVEMENT AND STUFF.

    5. IT WOULD TAKE SOMEONE FORM BEYONCE CAMP OR WHO ROLL WITH HER TO JACK A DANCE LIKE THEY MADE THAT SH!T HOT. BE REAL………..OKAY–

BEYONCE GONNA TURN THE MEN OUT!!!!!!!!!!!! YA’LL LIKE THAT MESS DON’T YALL!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • ATLCEO

First Bossip, J-Setting is not originally at “gay thing.” J-setting is named for the dance line at Jackson State University, the J-SETTS. If you want to a have a credible blog, have the facts straight. J-Setting is not a gay thing, but is rather a JACKSON STATE THING…

  • Resurrected

I thought Beyonce claimed they were all women in her video so see the little white lies that she tells all the time. Anyway in the club I have seen many gay men dressed like women dance better than that. Beyonce just needs to take some personal time away if her creativity is having that much problems finding something fresh.

  • niasia

In the video for Diva I could have sworn she was “beatin her feet”…DC slang that is so not new!

  • Jamie Thomas

I see this every weekend at black college Football games and some Basketball games. It is done by the dancer on the band. The capt. freestyles a routine and the other girls follow. I think that J-Setting is not new but was picked up by this guy and tried to call it his own. If you live in the southeast where most HBCU’s are take notice of the dancer on the dancer.

  • charlieblanko

LOL@YALL TALKING ABOUT THE VIDEO…THOSE ARE ALL GAY DUDES!

    LMBAO

  • niasia

And to anyone thinking that is a woman in the “single Ladies Video. Ya’ll must be blind! Not gay bashing it is just true. You can look at the facial and muscular structure. That is a man! Don’t get foolt in the club!

  • niasia

oh and to add even my 63 year old Uncle knew it was a man…come on now. And he smoke crack and had a stroke…if he can see it is a man..I don’t know what is wrong with some of yalls eyes!

  • HarlemWorld

Whomever really thinks Beyonce has the black community’s best interests at heart is a fool.

    That is all.

  • chiney K

all my single trannys!! all my single trannys!!

  • JSUDIVA95

HHHMMMMMM….those are imposters, if you want to see some real J-Settes try JACKSON STATE UNIVERSTIY those are the OG Prancing J-Settes…this type of dancing has been going on for years at HBCUs I remember seeing the Prancing J-Settes when I was like 6 so if you want to show folks what J-Setting is then you need to give some big ups to the HBCUs cuz they are bar far the best!! And they work hard many a night we saw them practice. SO A SHOUT OUT TO ALL MY J-STATE TIGERS 95-00

  • cmoore

i feel as though if you are gay then fine, do what you want but dont try to make everyone else believ that its okay because in my opinion….ITS NOT!

    JSU SONIC BOOM BABY

  • JACKSON STATE

As a JSU ALUMNA I know first hand that WE invented J-SETTING! WE ARE THE PRANCING J-SETTES! Beyonce is a COPYCAT today, yesterday, the day before and will be again tomorrow. All she does is mimic what others have already done and doesn’t do it half as well. Give JACKSON STATE our props! Gay people may J-Sette, but “THE J-SETTES” are the originators! Jacksonian for life! We bleed blue and white!

  • 601

J-setting was originated on the campus of Jackson State University back in the 70s
Clearly “BOSSIP” is not a credible source. lol

If Beyonce only knew, she would know that she is mimicking the Prancing JSETTES of JACKSON STATE UNIV.

Its not ok according to who? The Bible? Please believe that the Bible has been RE-WRITTEN numerous of times by men in their day in age. Homosexuality was not a sin, it was GREED!! Before u start preaching, do some research. Before the bible was re-written it also states that children who dis obey theit parents should be hung? Do we hear or see that now. LOL before u throw stones at somebody’s glass house make sure your house is made of bricks!!!!!

  • blazinyella

    their*

  • mechepeach

That shit dont have nothing to do with gay pride. Them dancers (dance team) from Jackson State…called the J-Settes been doing that. Thats they style of dancing versus a traditional dance team like Southern out of Baton Rouge LA.

  • mechepeach

thank you 601..i didnt read ur post till after!

  • Fatimah

    ***yawn***

  • Fatimah

    lmao @ magically delicious.

  • JSU Rocks da House

Like so many people have said before, name comes from the dance group at Jackson State University called the “Prancing J-Settes”. Gay men who are OBSESSED with the Prancing J-Settes from JSU go to every practice the J-Settes have, video tape the practice, practice the dances, and come to the games and try to out do the J-Settes. These men even have uniforms made and have real practice. They are simply imitating the dance team. It became mainstream because these men would put their videos on Youtube. And, we all know that Youtube will make anything popular. So, everyone, including Bossip, Vibe mag, and others have it twisted to think that the gay community started this type of dancing. The J-Settes at JSU are the originators and this is where the name comes from.

For a history lesson go to
    sonicboomofthesouth.com/history/the-prancing-j-settes/

  • V

SMH at the folks that brought their kids to watch this.

  • dreamer

you can go into any gay club in the South and see the boi’s doing these routines. It is mostly taken frm Frat and Sor. at HBCUs…Its cute and this has been goin on for many years….

  • dulces4mee

This mess made so annoyed. Not at the moves, but by who the moves are being made. Its’ a damn shame that so many of our men are into this lifestyle. I’m not homophobic by far, but I do mourn the loss.

  • Nina

Congrats to the JSU folks and the others from HBCUs, we hear you and applaud you. However…

How did this connection come about at this point…after she and others already credited Bob Fossy for this style of dance and part of the choreography?

Why r so many gay blk “men” in atlanta?? The Fruit from ‘real houswives’ gettin his own damn show now! Embarassing to blk folks, fa real.

    Also, Bun dem out!!!

  • Nina

And I don’t use the term “homophobic” because it implies that I am somehow afraid rather than opposed/disgusted/against taht life style. Tries to make it sound politically incorrect to “fear” gays. Please.

  • Nina

And I don’t use the term “homophobic” because it implies that I am somehow afraid rather than opposed/disgusted/against that life style. Tries to make it sound politically incorrect to “fear” gays. Please.

  • Ali

No surprise that this is in Atl, they are full of faggots and dl men. The women that brought there sons to see this mess ought to be ashamed of themselves!!

  • JSU Class of ’03

Get it right, Bossip! J-Setting comes from JACKSON STATE UNIVERSITY’S dancing ladies – the prancing J-setts. Gay Guys only imitate. They definitely shouldn’t get the credit for this. JSU ROCKS THE HOUSE -JACKSON, MS BABY!

  • pat

@NINA…the bob fossey credit comes from her AGAIN COPYING AND USING THE TWO BACKGROUND DANCERS WHO ALL DO THE SAME MOVES IN ONE TAKE…the 8 counts come from the J-SETTES…..that’s why the punks call it J-SETTING…because they are admitting where they got it from…

  • Taylor

    Wow!

  • Scorpion

    This is scary………………………

  • Keify (West Bmore)

    @ pooter

You said all I wanted to say. Bossip if you did more research you wouldn’t seem like such a low brow bunch of idiots.

OMG. Like sum1 said earlier go 2 sonicboomofthesouth.com and read the history. j-settes been around since the 70′s. guys aren’t aloud on the squad therefore they do imitate us out of admiration. Prancing J-Settes r the originators that’s why they call it “j-setting”

  • STEFANY

    Gay song of the year!

  • http://www.bossip.com Prancing J-Sette

oh if u want to see real “J-Setting” type in J-Settes or Prancing J-Settes in youtube

  • Shawn

Looking at this would make some think all black men are gay.

  • SU 4 Life

JSU Alum, you hit the nail on the head with that comment. Although I’m a part of Jaguar Nation and despise your school…LOL…I have to agree with you. Those moves are definitely from J-State. And what’s the name of ya’lls dance team?? The J-settes?? Man, they need to give credit where credit is due! That nothing underground about that sh*t. All you gotta do is go to a black college football game, and you’ll see ERRBODY dancing like that, including the fans!!!

  • enlight

I aint go to J-State and even I want a fricking apology!! F*ck these dudes who think they can just claim stuff like they originated. It’s enuff to piss off anyone who went to an HBCU or was on a dance team! Give credit where credit is due and stop COPYING….and that goes to these dudes, MiAKAs etc!!!

  • http://www.madeulooksucka.com Just Curious..

LMAO… you guys are going back and forth about who started J-setting like it’s relevant history…

  • Prancing J-Sette

First of all its spelled J-Sette! We performed at the NAACP Awards. Its NOT a secret. check it out

  • http://bossip.com/72853/saturday-style-every-cutie-with-a-booty-bought-a-coogi/#more-72853 TruthSayer

    Right on Just Curious………right on!
I’m from the chi and I haven’t even heard about this “j-settin” until um……….NOW!!! So it can’t be THAT relevant. People bite from people all the time and I wanna say it’s crazy, childish and irrelevant so it’s friday let’s go out and party!

    Oh and WHO CARES!?!

  • YaddaYadda

SMH at the folks that brought their kids to watch this.

    *********************************

    LOL for real!

  • SimplePleasures

So sad to see our young black men behaving like this. Nice dance dance moves, but still disturbing to watch.

  • TbeenITsince87

Umm let me just make this clear… there are VERY FEW place that I have EVER been where ppl/men dance like this. And i have been all up and down the east and the west and in most of the midwest.

Reason being, bc this is popular in the south (and they claim a little in new york but i aint seen it), and the south just became popular in itself. I mean maybe if your from the south, you may think its always been poppin but only within the last couple of years (5-10) has being from/going to the south been popular.

Thats what they mean by underground.

  • TbeenITsince87

Like I would love to move to a place where there are prominent black figures for my kids to look up, where they can see black ppl in all different walks of life, and I def thought/think ATL is that, or is at least becoming that. But ill be gotdamned if i move to a place where this is the norm for black men. Like this is ridiculous!

White men go golfin on weekends to discuss business strategies, and we do this shit… smh, got my blood pressure all up.

And dont get me wrong, like im all about expressing your creativity but i mean this is just out of line.

  • naughty

damn.those gay dudes really know how to shake their asses!!

  • http://loldarian.blogspot.com DARIANOUTLOUD

    @lace
“it just looks odd for black men to be gay.”

Lace you’ve got to be joking with that comment, right? It’s that mentality that fuels homophobia in the black community. Not to mention all of you “single ladies” so hard up for a man that you’re willing to date a gay brotha just to have someone in your life and a place on Oprah’s couch to tell your story of how you’ve been done wrong by a man on the down low. Please. Gay men come in all colors including black and we’re not all flamboyant and easily clockable.

  • ME ME ME

LOOKS LIKE WHAT THE DRILL TEAM DOES AT MY HIGH SCHOOL! WACKKKKKKKKKKK

  • Denise

J-Settes are the dance team from Jackson State University in Jackson MS. Their original choreographer was a gay guy. We were the first to dance like this and then the whole SWAC copied it. Southern, Grambling, Alcorn, they get it from JSU!

  • TheGoodGood

I dunno what theyse queens are talking about it.. they are right about the swagger jacking Beyonce but she stole the entire video from that Bob Fosse choroegraphy and she admitted to it.. this J-sette shit is just not even in the same league. It’s comedy to watch it though, assuming you have a strong stomach.

  • Carmen

THAT IS NOT A MAN!! WHY YOU ALL SAYING THAT A MAN, CAUSE SHE DARK SKIN? IGNORANT!!!

  • Lil Drey Drey

and you wonder why black men are on the DL. who wants to come out to this ish. lol.

  • girlymel

Holycrap!!! Are all brothers turning gay now?

  • http://bossip.com/72853/saturday-style-every-cutie-with-a-booty-bought-a-coogi/#more-72853 TruthSayer

I don’t care what y’all say being gay is NOT OK!!!!!! Those guys need serious help and the reason why our world is taking the turn for the worst is because the acceptance of this buffonnery. So all the ppl who gettin upset at the ppl who don’t condone homsexulaity needs to play in hella traffic because something is definitely wrong wit cha.

  • Yaz-Caz

Ok..I think Bossip just submitted the winner for “The Gayest Video Ever”!

  • lanette

gee their parents must be so proud….not

  • JSU Tigress

Yall need to cut that out- yall know damn well the gay commintiy didn’t start that! Not since all the half time shows I’ve been to…way before gays and Beyonce could shake it. Somewhere down the line they will say whites will have had started it…just like Egypt… removing Black people (especially Black women- think Liz Taylor as Cleo!?!?) out of the equation.

Keep it up and next thing you know we wont be the originators of BOOTY. OOps, Ya’ll already gave that credit to J-Lo & Kim K. Ask Sally Hemmings “Did J-lo start the booty craze?”, Tommy J would jump up out his grave & slap the shit out yall.

They say we have no culture…Black culture is alive and well. I’m just sick and tired of folks (esp other Black folks) giving credit to someone else. Not trying to put down the Black gays, but come on! Clearly the orignators of that dance style needs some hips and booty. And beleive me there is and has been plenty of it in the South, especially MS. So get it right: It is particularly a Dirty South, Jackson State of Jackson MISSISSIPPI thang.

In short, Don’t ruin the brand with these nuts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Its6amHoGetOut

I’m tired of everyone bashing gays. I am gay and proud of it. I love dic*. Especially when inserted im my ass. Its the best bomb sex. I’m about to go and get my freak on now!!

  • DR.FUNK

I recognize the moves as that of the dancers that were in the High School & HBCU bands of 20+ YEARS AGO.I saw these moves from the dancers & majorettes that were out front @ THERRELL & DOUGLAS HS…as well as every band @ AU CENTER.Oh well…Madonna got credit for mainstreaming VOGUE.Beyonce will get credit for mainstreaming J-SETTE.

  • DR.FUNK

When I was a teen/young adult…dancing was one more tool that STRAIGHT MEN used as a way of attracting women. Then came the mid 90′s…the mainstreaming of hip-hop/rap…and clubs that catered more to “VIP” bottle service.Couple all that with the “ANGRY STRAIGHT MALE BACKLASH” from guys who could not dance to save their lives. What you have is this stigma/smear campaign attached to men who can.I can dance…but I don’t because it raises eyebrows of suspicion among sistahs…and it DOES NOT turn them on anymore.Pulling up in a BENZO sure does.Times change ;^D If I dance at all-it will be at a SALSA CLUB.Men still dance with women in large numbers there.I won’t even bother to do it at a club with a mostly White crowd. The scene there is people trynna’ lounge like it’s some hip hop video too.Everyone is a rythmless poseur frontin’ affluence these days.SAD.

  • Brownin All Day

Bloody hell people!!! We all get it, it’s an HBCU/JSU thing….damn!!! We heard you the 1st 15 times. Why don’t people read before posting?

I must admit, I don’t think I have the energy to do that throughout a whole song….loving it though.

  • WTF

It amazes me how bitter some of you females are. So let me give you what you want. Black Gay men are not the reason you don’t have a career, a life or a man! If you want to know what the answer to that question, simply look in the mirror. Now the other problem you have is punks. See you biiter bitches turn off your man and that means what? he’s prime for the pivking. So just remember this, “what you don’t do….what the other bitch your nicca is seeing won’t do, a punk will surely do.” They next time you speak on booty busting ask yourself just where your man stops off each night before he gets home to you exhaused. Careful what you put in the pot girl, you might just choke on it.

  • WTF

Ms Missy. gay boys have been doing this since the late 70′s early 80′s. And who do you think supplied ya’ll with those emoves?

  • http://loldarian.blogspot.com DARIANOUTLOUD

Nina you proved my point. I rest my case. Bitterness is not a good look on you sister nor will it bring you the black king you’ve been raised to think you deserve. And for the record their would be no men on the DL if attitudes like yours weren’t so pervasive in the black community.

  • Truegallis

Pure deception! Chi-chi man replacing ma real ladies. This is sad…

  • jay

umm can you say High School “rejected” Drill Team/ Danceline routines… no maam/ no sir

  • Shea

I have to concur with the others who cited HBCU’s, in particular Jackson State University with the development of this dance. Hence the name J-Sette (Jackson State). I am a proud JSU alumn and I remember working out in the the old gym with the coach of the J-SETTES and steps from these routines were always part of the cardio regimen.
    JSU definitely ROCKS the house!!

  • The Cool

And these attitudes is why there are so many down low brothas having unsafe sex with other men and then sleeping with women to cover it up and why HIV is spreading like the flu among sistas now. With these types of attitudes why would a gay brotha or sista want to come out of the closet? But if these attitudes are worth more sistas dying we won’t have to be worried about a brotha shortage because all of the sistas will be dead. Worry more about getting tested and having your man tested then people that are openly gay. Those OPENLY gay people are saving lives by being honest.

  • PORTauPRINCE

Much love to all of my Jacksonians that have represented my dear old college home on this thread… Jackson State University c/o 2005…

I just wanted to throw in my dollar worth of factual information for everyone to see… This style of dance has become extremely popular among the gay community, as they hold various prize-winning competitions [based on style, technique, creativity, overall cohesive look, etc]… Just another way for “the kidz” to express themselves…

This style of dance DID originate from the HBCU dance lines… One of the most popular The Jackson State University J-Settes are held in high regard. This is due to their precise movements, innovative routines, creative counts, and core marching style. Since “The Kidz” are head over heels for the J-Settes they started to mimick their style of dance. This evolved into the craze that you can find in any gay club in the South today. & ITS RAPIDLY SPREADING!!!

There are numerous HBCU dancelines and I dont want to take anything away from them, because I do have some others that I love… BUT, it is what it is… You see who it was named after…

Besides, you can youtube any group and compare for yourself…

  • Londie

You now what I was thinking the same thing when i saw that dance. Those 14k dancers at Bethune-Cookman have been doing that for the longest. All HBCU’s with dance teams have done it. Sorry but this is nothing new

  • J-Sette Alum

    First and foremost …..

    JJJJJJ-PHI….OOOOO Set!

Yes, I agree with my fellow alum of JSU and HBCU alums. This is nothing new, we have been around for going on almost 40 years now. Yes, J-Settes have made a presence and continue to make one. We know the “kids” give us props and we give it back to them. That move is an old move we did back in the early 90′s. But just to give you a glimpse…check this out…http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IFlKZxB8TfA&feature=related

  • http://myspace.com/ebonycoe EBZ

    Why smh? That was hot.

  • Prancing J-Sette 06-09

I agree, yall need to give credut where credit is due. If beyonce wanna dance like a Prancing J-Sette, she need to ask one. JJJJ-Phi……OOOO-Set

  • Jamie

The Red team was good, they are gay but they can dance, they wanted to show how its done and they nailed it. Realize gays are out there.

  • JSU Delta Diva c/o ’96

I agree with the JACKSON STATE UNIVERSITY ALUMNI, FAMILY & FRIENDS! Everyone wants to be the best so, what do they do? Attempt to copy the best! As Dr. Liddell would say, “Often Imitated But Never Duplicated”! Beyonce, Jaquel Knight & The Gay dudes…need to acknowledge the truth and the real story…..They “borrowed” from the Prancing J-Settes!
