Just In Time For the Holidays
Posted by Bossip Staff
Lovely ladies Nia Long, Sanaa Lathan, and Gabrielle Union are featured in the December issue of Essence Magazine. You get a special holiday treat three fold on these ladies discussing different topics such as gossip blogs:
Gabrielle: Just last week somebody gave me a baby. This isn’t Perez Hilton or the White gossip people, these are women of color, specifically Black women who, for whatever reason, don’t like the company I keep.
Sanaa: She’s talking about the gossip sites.
Essence: The blogs.
Sanaa: That are run by Black women.
Gabrielle: And now because everyone is clamoring for celebrity tidbits, the bigger gossip sites and even mainstream entities are picking up on it. No fact-checking, no nothing. And in one week’s time, there were like five different dudes, a baby—I’m a homewrecker. In literally seven days. I can’t point the finger at the White media. They don’t care about us. Paparazzi are not staked out in front of any of our houses. They are not going through our garbage because they don’t care about us in that way. So when you hear crap about us, it is coming from our own community, which hurts.
Gabby better learn the game, coverage and publicity is good for her little career. She must be mad about this or this , which was confirmed by Bossip sources.

Black is beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
hmmmm…I wonder which gossip site Gab is referring to…???
*wow, this is a real head scratcher*
All three ladies look beautiful and Gabbie is so on point about these blogs.
well WE love all three of you!
Damn, has Gabby read bossip???? lol
Lmao if bossip thinks she’s referring to them.
3 lovely women and not a snarky thing to say from bossip………………………….Ur making me proud (although I know U’ll let me down 2mrrw).
“You got to lose your friend-zo if ya wanna ride in the Benz-o!”
Two of the baddest women in entertainment in my opinion; Sanaa Lathan and Nia Long.
Whhhoooo lAWD im on sexy black woman over load with that cover!!! And they’re absolutely right…. We are still with the ‘crabs in the barrell’ black people BS. BeBEtter! Damn!
Tell em Gabby! Put these fools on blast! Now these are some fyne ***** honeys right here.
All three have the same smile.
I feel ya..I feel ya
She has to be referring to Bossip (DEAD at bossip taking that as a shout out though). But she is so right – thus ending my goofy mood – any bad info that comes out about a black celebrity (that’s not the mainstream ones – such as Will Smith) would likely come from black gossip blogs. Though, I am a frequent at just about all the gossip blogs, BOSSIP however, is the only one that hooks her up with multiple dudes. SMH, tsk, tsk and such. Shame on you Bossip!!
They look fabulous and beautiful…no comment about the gossip blogs though!!! She is telling the truth!!!
nah, she aint referring to Bossip. lets consider the facts…
1)No fact checking
2)No sources
3)Several different (often conflicting) stories a week
4) Talkin smack about black celebrities
…nope. it can only be MEDIA TAKEOUT.
Mary x
First beautiful women. Second it’s a damn shame that BOSSIP just did all the stuff Gabby was talking about in her interview.
DAMN THAS A GOOD LOKIN COVER
THEY AGING HELLA GOOD
http://WWW.MY*****E.COM/THAGRINDAHOLIC
CHECK THE NEW KNOCK “MISS CARWASH”
Agreed, Media Takeout just pulls stuff out of their *****es everyday.
These 3 ladies look lovely!
They all are beautiful in their own right…but what’ up with the Stepford wives look? Must they all have the same overdone and tiyad ***** weave…
Thumbs up Essence what a pretty pic!
Damn I didn’t even read the excerpt, I just commented on the pic.
I agree with Sanaa and Gab, it is women of color who have low self esteem and are on these blogs and want other women to think and act like them. I already said my two cents on the JHUD and James post, so no need to repeat. I was floored when the blogger was talking about scarstic and disrespectful man being good.
Gabby you are a single woman and if you want to date then do that don’t listen to what hateful hoes on these blogs have to say on here. Like I said try and listen to salt n’ peppa “None of yo buiness.”
Bossip is not CNN, The Final Call, or NAACP.com. They have no obligation to report only positive things about Black celebrities.
Gossip is gossip, of course sites are going to talk about who Gabrielle may be dating. You don’t go to a Home depot and get mad at them for seeing tools in the store do you?
they all look gorgeous…Nia is beautiful
@ RonG
I feel ya. And though this type of thing (gossip blogs with negative stories) comes with the territory of being famous, I can’t help but feel where they are coming from. Which is why I could never be famous (no matter how much of a star I think I am
Dear Mary J,
How do you cope with these types of struggles, being the HUGE celebrity that you are?
All my love,
lacyd
Gabriele Union makes a VALID point. Black people tear each other down constantly and it sad. Instead of being proud of the few African American women that are making some type of noise in Hollywood…people want to focus on a few pictures and create a fictional story out of it. Nia Long, Gabriele Union and Sanaa Lathan are great actresses and need to have more positive coverage about them!! Glad Essence is taking the time out to praise them rather than bring them down.
@Harlem Chic
They all are beautiful in their own right…but what’ up with the Stepford wives look? Must they all have the same overdone and tiyad ***** weave…
Good point. I didn’t even notice it.^^^^^^^^
@RonG
No, you don’t get mad but it is kind of hurtful that your own people are tearing you down. We are the main ones saying there aren’t enough positive black folks in the public eye, not enough movies made for blacks, etc but then the black folks are the ones dissing the few blacks we got out there. Gossip is gossip.
Gabby is the industry w*****, she needs to become a singer so we can say she is *****ing for tracks, the ones in her head.
Jay
I agree

STOP IT!!
Mary J Blige
nah, she aint referring to Bossip. lets consider the facts…

SORRY GABBY….. IT COMES WITH THE *****IN’ JOB!
BOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOO!

I would love to, but I just can’t help it.
Gabby is on point and she’s a WestCoast G. All the ladies look good btw.

Taking a Closer Look at the Stories Ignored by the Mainstream Media
She should be happy someone is talking about her, she hasn’t had a hit movie since Bad Boys. All these black actresses and singers should be happy someone remembers them because hardly any of them put out quality entertainment. Most of them just dress up and go to parties to stay relevant.
Sanaa and Gabrielle better watch out for that mall hag Nia, because she is a rough un’- She will beat a b—— ***** in a hot minute.
She seems so scary to me. Like you better not look at her th ewrong way…pure ghetto that one. I mean that in the worst way possible.
Are you telling me Essence could not get anyone else. They use the same people over and over again. Here they are.
Monique
Mary Jay Blige
Nia Long
Terrence Howard (he’s a woman right?)
Gabrielle Union (several covers)
Sanaa Lathan (one cover?)
King Latifah
Poofy Daddy
Oprah (although she is over Essence now)
Dear Essence..there are other Black women you can put on the cover you know. Kerry Washington was nice a while back..and did I so love the most “misunderstood black woman” cover of Mariah Crey..lol
smh at Essence
What a great cover. They all look fabuolous.
On a side note:
Uh-oh the Mary imposter is back with her crazy *****.
lol
things are about to get interesting.
No she’s talking about Sandra Rose, which proclaimed she had a baby.
This is true though.
Bossip is black gossip, and gossip isn’t true. So don’t get sensitive bossip. You know it’s the truth.
@ weezy
I wouldn’t say that their first choice for movie rolls wouldn’t be low budget BET films. Hollywood is so color struck it’s pathetic. If you’re not Halle Berry, then I can imagine that it’s tough being a black woman in Hollywood. For this statement, there should be no rebuttal, because what other black actress has struck it big time? No seriously, who? I can’t think of any, but I hope I’m wrong.
Look it comes with the territory!
Did they all use the same lipstick? I think they are cute, but nothing special. They look like any chick walking down the streest to me.
HAAAAAAAAAAAA!!! She put Sandra Rose on blast. I told her that girl didn’t have a baby that she just put on weight and her ***** got big. That ***** well told me that was some pregnant *****ies and she would now ’cause she’s a nurse.
*know*
These ladies are cl*****y!
Sanaa Lathan is beautiful, dont get me wrong Nia and Gabrielle are DYME’S but its just something about Sanaa that makes me wanna leave the one I’m with and start a new relationship
I wish people would stop giving the excuse, It comes with the territory, like they know and made the rules! These beautiful women signed up to be actresses, not to be the mainpoint of Bossip editors and other lames miserable lives! Some people dont have anythign else better to do but to run to sites and spread untre gossip! Its like you are upset, a hater, and miserable yourself, so that how you make yourself feel better!Some people at Bossip are not all that bad because I have read positive stuff on here before, but as for Mediatakeout………that is a different story! Keep up the good wrk some of Bossip editors! Good Point Lacyd
I agree with some of what they are saying & look forward to the article but it’s ten times worse with certain celebs like Bey to say nothing of the bro celebs if they FALL FROM GRACE!
Photoshopping is a blessing but my girl Sanaa better marry a black man & Gabby too! LOL!!! Nia’s already down with some nba ball player.
the only movies i have ever watched starring any of these ladies were…”bring it on” {shush it! i was a cheerleader} and boys in the hood {i still scream RIIIICKKKYYYY!!!!!} ANYWHO- i do think they are all pretty
Hmmm interesting that there are three black women on the cover of this magazine and ALL three of them have Weave down their back…The white standard of beauty remains strong (sigh)…would be nice if our TRUE Natural beauty and not as much “HorseHair” was being featured on the cover and perceived as Beautiful
Well it’s true ain’t it? Some black blogs are on some shyt sometimes with some of these rumors for black actors.
yep not they are some fine woman…
I’m sure she’s smart enough to know that the black women digging on her are just jealous because none of them even know enough to call her anything. All they know about her is what they read on the blogs and none of that is verified. Some people just hate. That’s their job.
They all look great. Nia has always been one of my favorites. I’m glad she’s on Big Shots.
Gabrielle Union needs to shut the hell up and sit her ***** down somewhere!!!
She should be glad that anyone wants to write anything about her unemployed *****. She needs something to keep her on the radar.
So why is it when ppl are talking about Beyonce this “it comes with the terriority” crap don’t come up. Like I said before I’ll say what I want about whoever, like it or not!
@ Lacy D:
Stop encouraging Mary!!!
leave it be
I liked ‘Bring It On’ too……
ok sue me!!
LOVE all three. They look gorgeous. Don’t listen to the haters
Gabby needs to do right & go ahead & marry the bro from CSI NEW YORK! LOL!
some of yall sound mad this evening.
They look absolutely gorgeous! Nice cover. Hmm, why did I think Gabbie was talking about Sandra Rose? Not sure of any other sistahs running blogs. And I don’t think (based on the info. someone posted a few weeks back exposing Bossip’s background, CEO, etc.)that she was referring to this site. But who knows, except for the fake Mary J. I’m sure “real” celebs out Bossip…under an alias of course.
@reddnwood
Don’t encouage her to do that. Hill Harper is my husband. LOL
So is Starbury his wife just needs to keep him on a tighter leech so he won’t be sleeping with any more interns in the back seat of the truck.
i think the pic looks bad because its way too photoshopped.
I think think the rumors about Gabby are true, she is right…a lot of black women hate on her because she is so gorgeous.
All of them are beautiful. You can not pick just one! See men, how can you not love a black woman!
beautiful cover!
I am smart enough to know that most of the rumors are just that……rumors. Who cares who’s zoomin’ who?
Real beauty is without those damm WEAVES-picture Gabrielle without her weave- You can’t. They just look so phony- I liked Nia with the cute natural her own hair look- Gabrielle is a *****- so who cares
gabrielle union needs to shut the hell up this is a gossip site not the justice department, not the charity department and definately not the nice-nice department and the same rule should be applicable in hollywood if they dont get roles maybe they should change careers and get *****ing jobs…lol
black people tearing each other down? ***** pls thats the excuse many blacks use when people are not feeling them that much, is gabrielle union charitable? generous? in a nutshell is she a good person? so before she opens that mouth to talk about black people with such generalisation she should look at herself in the mirror and see if she looks like a black woman with all those bgas of weave on her head, same thing goes for the other actresses
peace
Gabrielle is one of the Biggest Black *****s- no one is hatin on her no actress *****- Take the weave out!!! See how she really looks
What a pretty cover!
granted, all these women are gorgeous in their own right BUT every black actress in hollyweird has morphed into the same standard look – same makeup type, same weaves, wigs, style, same style dress – this is ridiculous and soon everyone of them will be unable to be differentiated – how unfortunate – individuality is rare in 2007
trashing people is good for their career? how sad.
well you must do wonders for Beyonce.
Bossip is a *****t festival…the ladies should know that and ignore you.
they shouldn’t give a trashy site like bossip a 2nd thought…trashin & bashin is just what you do especially to women of color.
oh well,,bash on.
Gabby just lost me. I was a fan of hers, but now she’s getting on my nerves.
What does she think is going to happen by complaining about gossip sites? GOSSIP is GOSSIP. It’s not NEWS. And Gossip by nature is malicious and silly and often times untrue. So calm it down Gabby. You better be happy you’re getting any publicity at all. Shoot.
And it’s not like she’s hiding from it…she’s always cheesin for the cameras at some party or another! And all this b-s about how it’s coming from our her own community and boo-hoo, boo-hoo, woe is me! Give it a break. You’re not doing anything for the ‘community’ so why should we support you? You’re just a pretty face who’s been in mediocre movies. Get over yourself Gabster!
Rosey, you have a point. It’ll be really cool one day to see a black actress rockin’ her own hair and giving the weave a rest for a minute. But who knows, after wearing weaves for years, they hairlines might be jacked up…who knows
BOSSIP, YALL ARE SOME EVIL, UGLY, LOOSING BLACK HOES. SO REAL, SO TRUE.
Finally beautiful black women on the cover of a magazine. I almost forgot what real sistas looked liked for a second.
@ Rosey
The same is true for white women in hollywood so whats your point?
gabby made a good point about the paparazzi not being in front of their yards so it is black gossip sites but like bossip said if it wasnt for the gossip they wouldnt get pub unless they had a movie or tv show coming out so i guess she has to take the exposure of bad rumors even though she may know they are mostly lies
Great photo!
Gabby, if you don’t want folks to talk about ya, stay ya ***** at home sometimes…
I mean wtf are they takin all these pictures with each other if they don’t want to be talked about…doesn’t that defeat the purpose? Umm Gabby you need to chill out…if you know the truth about images put on here then wtf do you care about people saying sh*t. Hopefully Gabby you aren’t that insecure…I know you aren’t..so honey just chill
DAYUM…all 3 of them are really doin their 1-2’s…their looks game is serious alrite…that being said Gabby Gurl needs to realize that all that chitta chatta is just a part of THE GAME…Always gonna be some damn rumors about who’s-zoomin-who regardless…
Oh yeah Bossip, how about a lil sumthin luvly on my new “HEROES” baby gurl Dana Davis…Shorty looks like she could be ole Gabby’s lil sis too…Sexy as hell w/gorgeous-azz smile(and body)…
Nia Long: Very, very talented actress, and beautiful too.
Sanaa Lathan: No Nia Long, but she is beautiful and she tries, saw her in Nip/Tuck,beautiful.
Gabrielle Union: Not very talented and needs to get some acting lessons and find a job, aren’t we just tired of seeing her in every party shot.
Gabby, get a job!
Halle Berry: Works hard,and isn’t a party girl, maybe that’s why she succeeds.
Zoe Saldana: Talented, beautiful and hard worker, she has about six movies coming soon and she stars in two.
there are many other Black female stars doing well.
I thought Gabby was talking about Bossip but Mary made a good point by mentioning MTO. Their ***** is 99% lies.
I think that she probably referring to Mediatakeout stores. Sorry Bossip, I don’t think tht she was referring to y’all.
yeaa Gabby is absolutely rightt. you dnt see these beautiful women on the cover of US Weekly or People likee talentless white women a la Britney Spears or Paris. soo most of the time its black “media”…i dnt call blogs real media but whatev…tht spread these rumors about theyre own people. and tht *****es me off. even on this website. you guys STAY on beyonce like shes the only celeb left. im not very fond of her either but i respect her hustle to the fullest. not because eveyone else is, but because shes a black women and yet shes a HOUSEHOLD name. eveybody and they mommas know her. lol i didnt mean to turn this into a beyonce thing, believe meee. but im just sayin, when we see our black celebs, ESPECIALLY our black women out there doin it big, lets support them. Jealousy is an ugly thing Bossip *SMH*
Wow, what is up with the haterade today? You’ll act like Gabby did something to you personally.
They look fabulous. I can’t wait to get my copy.
OMG, she is pretty hot! I love her! Her profile was just found on wealthy men personals site called Wealthy Romance.com where Charlie Sheen found his match last May! Good luck to her search!
Damn They Sexy I Wanna ***** Them All In The ***** And Stick My ***** In There Mouths
They Pretty But Who Are They?
I love the pic and I can understand where Gabby is coming from. Still don’t respect Sannaa, sorry.
That thing with Denzel neither one confirm it but they never exactly denied it either. He states that he loves his wife and she stated that they were just in a movie together. Love Nina she’s the one with real talent (getting her something new on on her new show Big Shots).
Nah, she’s talking about a certain site that was talking about her and D-Wayde, and she’s mad they called her out because she has no business kickin it HARD w/ him. and she knows it too!
I love all three women and good for Essence to put these three naturally beautiful sisters on the cover but Gabrielle Union is stupid to think that she can be kickin it with every man, married, with girlfriends or without and not get in the gossip blogs. Sweety if it wasn’t for Bossip, YBF & Mediatakeout no one would see your party hoppin *****. So thank them for keeping you in the limelight cause your career has been dry for a minute. I’m still waiting for Mrs Dwaye Wade to catch up with her.
Gabrielle has a “little” career? That’s a joke Bossip, more of a career than followng and hating on everyone else’s!!!!! HINT HINT!!! All three of these ladies are beautiful, talented and cl*****y. By now Gabrielle should have learned to not take the gossip rumors so seriously, it’s just part of being a celebrity. Most folks act like they hate you, but that’s because they really want to BE you!
Picture is great. Makeup and photography team did a great job. If any of the ladies have problem with the blogs then stay home. The minute they leave the house to attend a party, a fundraiser, or shop for food, it’s on the blogs. I agree it’s not news. It isn’t news when you divorce your husband only to be seen with the new flavor of the month after standing by you when your situation was on LEAN. It isn’t news when any of these black actresses get pregnant out of wedlock, but we vilify their lower income counterparts on Hot Ghetto Mess. Right now, Halle Berry should be on the site, but she when she gets a p***** from Oprah.
All three of them are gorgeous, but Sanaa looks flawless in that pic!
whatsup wit all these violent kittys….or is it kitties…w/e
they are sooo pretty!!! im kinda getting sick of gabrielle but she’s beautiful nonetheless.
can somebody please tell me how to use my gravatar??? i made one at gravatar.com but its still not showing up. what do i need to type or do?
She can slam gossip Web sites. Stop with the “it comes with the territory”. No it doesn’t. BLOGS are a recent phenom. So NO none of them knew what they were up against 3 to 10 years ago. K? Back in the day, real media, actually did fact-check and try to be right, not FIRST.
This is a dig at Sandra Rose who is a woman. A woman that is not that snarky and takes things personal. She’s the only person that goes to war with other bloggers. Weird. Beef between blogs is dumb dumb dumb.
She could be talking about ybf, but let’s face it, ybf is NICE for the most part. And it doesn’t really attack people. The new layout sucks *****, though.
And mediatakeout and bossip just HAVE to be run by men. Plus, they don’t make it obvious what sex their owners are. The other two sites personalize things.
Gabrielle it comes with the territory, you could have continued to work at payless shoes and remain anonymous. How do we know you worked at payless? Because when you were an up amd coming star you told ALL of your business. We supported you when you were in Bring it On. ( with pancake make up and glued in tracks) so just shet the ***** up now that you got a skin peel and a lace front. Dumb ***** amd I LOVE THESE BLOGS
I can guarantee you Sandra Rose will have something about this and I haven’t even checked her site.
Why are you taking a stab at her because she worked at Payles shoes? So what? She was a teenager. I worked at McDonald’s when I was 15. Most college students and teenagers have summer JOBS or at least they used to.
She was also RAPED.
I would bet she’s not sleeping with all the men she’s “partying with”. If anything, she probably has intimacy issues following what happened to her as a college student.
All of them are successful, Beautiful women, who will always have my support and that of my east coast crew. Being a Pretty girl is not easy..like Nanna always said UGLY people cause trouble! No hate for any of them, Gabby, do like Jill when she reads the blogs..say people do not have a life. Words hurt, but so does success…So FOCUS, please focus. Gabby has worn her natural hair out in many movies, and in pics, sanaa also…let it go people..U can do it..RELAX, RELATE, RELEASE and let the haters fall where they may. Keep entertaining me you honest people on here..and do something positive for someone.
NO ONE outside of the Black blogs would give her shine. When was the last time a movie she was in went to number one in the box office. Matter of fact, who remembers the last movie she was in. Exactly. Black blogs, whether they’re hating or loving you, are keeping black celebrities names on the foreground of pop culture. Gabrielle Union, you’re a dumb ho. I wish that all that black blogs boycotted your ***** for 6 months and then tell me if you’ll still be making magazine covers without a movie in sight. I hate dumb *****es.
Is it me, or does Nia Long kind of look like Angela B*****ett in the cover pic?
Uhhh, she would be making the cover of the likes of Essence. Essence is a black magazine. There are like 6 big black stars making the circuit.
Sorry, black blogs can not be cited for her popularity, Lady in the Red.
Black blogs can be cited for keeping us up to date to her every move. I love blogs but I they’re not the power behind the media. In other words, a reporter can’t pitch a celebrity to an editor because they’re on a blog.
So, yeah, no. Have you seen the advertisements for this Web site, which I love, btw. It sure the heck isn’t on the same level as, say, perezhilton in terms of advertisement dollars.
I do thank the blogs for keeping me entertained, though.
I’m glad she was honest about other sisters hating on her…..if it’s a fact, why hide it? She and Halle are two of the most exquisite sisters out there. Nia too. Sanaa??? No, ’cause she riding Denzel’s pole, she’s a major skank ho.
The cover is hot…..
They are all beautiful but I am tired of the weave on Gabrielle’s head.
Really? Black blogs can’t be sited for her popularity. Gabrielle Union is cute and for a minute there she was the next big black female star. But her movies and the number of roles she was being offered fell off. Without the advent of the black blog, half of us would not really have GU on our minds. More of a “Man I wonder what happened to her” and kept it moving. Like a said before, Black blogs keep her in forefront our minds until her next forgettable movie. White media does not care for GU like that. It’s insulting for her to try to put down black blogs when it’s so obvious how Black blogs have kept her interesting. Not even Bossip but the most popular black blog (YBF, Natasha loves GU)
These chicks are ok, but they’re no Kim Kardashian. Now she’s hot!
Half of us might not be preoccupied with Gabrielle Union but what does that mean?
Black blogs love GU. Has that translated into $$$. You asked about her last number one movie. When was that? Despite all the black blogs gossiping about who she’s having an affair with that still didn’t result in ticket sales.
Despite all the black blogs having 100 % of their conent, or maybe 90 percent, about BLACK PEOPLE, how many covers are the negroes doing in mainstream media?
SO AGAIN, what exactly effect do popular blogs have on her?
We’re thinking about her and typing about her,which means what.
You’re not getting her on covers, you’re not making her movies sell out…
So what does this mean?
The black blogs are making money. THat’s about it.
So again, how does this benefit her? We talk about her?
We’re negroes for the most part, WE ALREADY KNOW WHO SHE IS.So we were already tlaking about her. She’s relevant on the black blogs because BLACK people know her. The blogs aren’t writing about Tracy Chapman.
And of all three of the negroes on the cover, Gabrielle Union is the only one the YTs know?
Why? ‘Cause of Friends and BRing it On.
These indeed are beautiful woman, but they are also
gossip mongers, trash talking, hoe hopping hussies also, ***** GABY she’s is a HOE, so is Sanaa, and they know it, ain’t *****ody spreading no rumors its all the TRUTH, and Nia thinks she bad, she aint ***** either……they should be glad somebody saying ANYTHING about their *****es.
@ persona
That’s not true. I’m familiar with the work of Nia Long. She was quite cheeky in that Alfie remake a couple of years ago.
Gabby needs to fall back with that nonsense. She’s probably mad that the paparazzi isn’t going through her trash, rendering her not worth it. Maybe if she wasn’t up in a different man’s face in every picture then she wouldn’t be on anyone’s radar. She plays innocent, but she knows exactly what she’s doing. She’s on her way out and she wants to stay visible.
REAL, dark-skinned women repin repin. So tired of seeing those powdered black women like Alicia Keys, Halle Berry and Mariah Carey waving the black flag. We need real black women in da house. Now, if only we could get rid of those weaves.
NATURAL HAIR IS LOVELY…GOD GAVE YOU FOR A REASON.
HalleB, you are out of your damn mind. The only reason you are hating is because you want to be like them but you can’t. Go back to selling your crack on the streets and leave the people who have made something out of their lives alone. SICKO!!!
3 successful sistahs doin’ it their way. Ain’t life grand.
Thanks to Love Jones~Nia will forever be in my heart
Super Proud of both Sanaa & Gabriel for proving that you can be successful and have a good time doing it!
Another amazing black actress is..
CLAIRE HOPE A*****EY
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
HOPE AND GLORY
BY AMINA TAYLOR
Look out for 19-year-old actress Clare Hope A*****ey, her performance in Shooting Dogs, just released on dvd, has seen her win popular acclaim
Most of us, if we are honest, only ever excel at one sphere in life and that’s if we’re really lucky.
A person may feel pretty content with this knowledge until they meet Clare Hope A*****ey. She’s an actress, academically gifted and talented at sports. Oh, and she’s still only 19 years old. If that were not enough, when you speak to her and a grounded, level-headed, astute young woman answers back, it really takes Herculean efforts not to go jogging in traffic with your eyes closed. Where did it all go wrong for us, eh?
Since our shortcomings are none of Clare Hope A*****ey’s concerns, it is probably more helpful to use her story as one of aspiration instead of a reminder that success is not age related, merely a combination of talent, timing and tenacity. How else could you describe landing one of the pivotal roles in a film already swaying under the praise of Oscar buzz?
When A*****ey landed the part of Marie in the Michael Caton-Jonesdirected Shooting Dogs (2005) she was not even really trying to be a film star. “I never really intended to go into professional acting. I always enjoyed being showy. I went to regular school all the way up to my Alevels last year but I started going to drama school on Saturdays when I was 12 or 13. It was never with the intention of working professionally, it was something I enjoyed and another activity besides my academic work.”
THESPIAN
A*****ey’s journey from part-time thespian to a fully-fledged talent came as a surprise to the teenage star. “Our headmistress set up her own agency around five years ago and encouraged people to join. I had no idea what might come out of it and I literally fell into Shooting Dogs when it came up. My former headmistress called me up and said she had this audition for me. I’d never been to a feature film audition it had always been adverts and TV parts. It still feels quite crazy to me because there was never any master plan, I just fell into this whole thing haphazardly and it really snowballed when I found out I got the part.”
For established actors like her costar John Hurt and Hugh Dancy,Shooting Dogs and its subject matter would be difficult to digest. The film centres on the genocide in Rwanda in 1994 and was shot on location enlisting the help of actual survivors and relatives of those butchered as local crew members.
Shooting Dogs required a certain maturity and inner stillness that A*****ey seemed to possess from the word go. For a teenager on her first film set, the experience could have been overwhelming without even considering the subject matter but for director Caton-Jones, A*****ey nailed the part. Receiving such high praise humbled the young north Londoner.
A*****ey’s modesty is endearing as she truly saw herself out of her comfort zone. “Everyone was really sweet to me and patient and understanding of the fact that I had never done anything on this scale before and really did not know what I was doing. They held my hand and took me through it. They were great people to learn off. I always think the best way to learn is to do so off people who are better at it than you and take it all in. Apart from being on set, we would interact socially which was another way for me to just sit back and soak it all up.”
PLAUDITS
As the plaudits come in, Clare Hope A*****ey is not just content to sit back and soak them all up without a future plans. For an actress who describes herself as ‘a typical teenager who likes to shop,’ it is obvious from just interacting with her that she is made of more lasting material. In October this year A*****ey will begin her degree in social anthropology at the prestigious School of Oriental and Asian Studies (SOAS). How she will balance movie stardom with a challenging degree is still a tricky topic but you just know she will make it work. With Shooting Dogs out on DVD, A*****ey has already completed work on the thriller Children of Men with Michael Caine, Julianne Moore, Clive Owen and Chiwetel Ejiofor so her CV should need absolutely no help from us.
In the midst of what Clare Hope jokingly describes as ‘craziness’, it is her parents and grandmother who inspire her and not the dizzy heights of Hollywood stardom.
“They are strong in ways that I can never fully comprehend being, especially given some of the tough knocks that have been dealt to them. The journey they have been on to make sure me and my brother and sister are where we are today is amazing and I can never say thank you enough.”
Now that is cl*****.
Remember the name and spread the word.
Shooting Dogs is out on DVD from July 31.
U know, I cudnt even read all ur comments but just from lookin at that cover, yes, they all look beautiful, fresh, lovely Black skin, but please, can we take away the typical, same-style weave? LOL@Harlem Chic (Stepford Wives!) and othas who have noticed it. Damn, I wanna see them without it! I think cos their hairstyles are the same thats what bothers me. But all are pretty women in the face (espec Nia when she had the short cut, and Sanaa has this quiet, u*****vious beauty) so they all good to me! @Halle B, how are these women hoes? Iv heard Gabby *****s around but it just sounds like talk to me. Does any1 no anythin a bit more concrete?! What new wiv them film wise?
Why are black women this thread calling other sisters “w*****s” and other derogatory names? Could someone please explain?
that pic is so photoshopped they look fake.
I meant to write *why are black women ON this thread”
And we complain when men degrade us.
Nia is hottt
Lady in Red is typical Black female trash.
Sydney, you are just witnessing the typical behavior of many Black women. No one does a better job at insulting and attacking Black women, than other Black women.
And for all those insulting Gabby, when was the last time Halle Berry had a hit movie? Halle can’t sell a movie to save her life but White blogs keep writing about her. Gabby is a great Black actress and the fact that she isn’t Halle doesn’t mean she has no talent, honestly she is just too dark and not mainstream America’s taste as they don’t like to show pretty Black women that look Black. We should applaud Gabby cause if it wasn’t for her we would not see ourselves in films at all. You know Black films have a paper bag clause denying jobs to sistas who aren’t MIXED.
@ Blade
You are so right. The behavior of some of us saddens me. I don’t understand it.
ROCK IT!!!! those ladies are hott do what you do cuz I can’t do it by myself damn I hope I’m gorgeous when I’m 40!!!!
And I will add that we also complain that there are not enough images recognizing our beauty in popular culture, yet there are comments here that demean a gorgeous portrait of three sisters. Is that not hypocritical?
Photoshopped or not, these ladies are beautiful and have been in the business for years. They deserve respect — not degradation.
I dont care for G. Union. Sanaa is ok and Nia is ok, but to touch up on what someone else was saying, I think these women COULD get roles, but they would have to appeal to Euro’s. IDK, maybe put on a blonde wig, keep some white friends around them you know that kind of thing lol. They will have to try harder than their counterpart Halle. But, at the same time people say Halle is a sell out b/c she portrayed herself in a certain light, but lets be real, wasnt she the first Black woman to win an Oscar-even if it displayed her *****ing a racist? As much as those 3 women keep it real and everything, they wont get roles, and they dont have major acclaim because of it. NOT a big Halle fan, just stating the obvious to me.
i’d hardly call them dark, dark is like kelly rowland, lauryn hill or alek wek.
just cus there arent many real black women in the media people think brown skinned gals who are, are dark which aint true.
we have alicia k, c*****ie, halle and mariah cl*****ified as “black” musicians or actresses they hardly look like the marjority of black people.
Thanks to the person above for pointing a few things out.
Halle Berry can’t act.
Halle Berry can’t sell a movie. See her recent movie that opened with a million dollars.
Halle Berry can’t get a cover of VOgue. Too black.
Yet she is still a household name to YTs for her roles because she is makes films with rarely any black cast members. So she can’t make them almost forget she is black (or biracial) until she decides to have a baby with a white dude, then the racists come out.
Most of the above ladies cannot do that.
Average at best. Well…they look like a whole bunch of other Black women. I don’t think people hate, I just think people are tired of people screaming these women are drop dead gorgeous when they look our friends, aunts, and cousins only with weave, a ton of make-up, filters, cameras, uncertain fame and money. Everybody look good on pay day. I don’t think people are haters when they don’t fall at the feet of these women – it’s just not eyecatching to some people when you or someone you know looks better and is natural. Everybody has flaws and luckily they can be hidden or fixed when you’re famous. Nia Long has nice hips but an ***** like an old man…no shots from the back ever. Gabrielle Union is a lucky type cast one note. Everybody lets get extensions and photoshopped!
The fact that we’re even talking about her proves my point. Black blogs give us a medium to talk about black celebrities. As with all good things it comes with bad, the point is we’re talking about you. If we’re talking about a celebrity we’re thinking about them. If we’re thinking about you, it won’t come as such a surprise to go see a GU movie. Please don’t think blogs don’t make celebrities or lead into opportunities. You only need to look at KK to see how black blogs help your hustle.
Why am I the only who doesn’t think the reason Gabrielle Union isn’t getting roles is because she’s dark, which is confusing to me, because she’s beautiful. So skin tone trumps beauty?
While I’m on the subject – is it me or does Gabrielle Union play the same person in every movie?
She gets roles…if she’s not working her technique may be to blame. She does not transition or transform well. She’s always the sarcastic, lip curling, 30 year old. I think in movies they should just let her use her own name. She looks the same every movie – every time – same hair – same tone – same facial expressions. It’s just Gabrielle Union playing Gabrielle Union. Maybe she should change her look…slide out a few tracks and see what happens. She looks like every average chick with that damned long hair part on the side hair do.
No, Lady In Red, you did not prove your point. You noted that GU isn’t not selling out movies and/or getting roles, so it blogs translate into NOTHING. I think about walking past the lady that helps kids cross the street every morning, because it’s by my house, what does this mean? Absolutely nothing, except maybe I’ll be surprised if one day she’s not there. What does my surprise me? Just that. It means I’ll be surprised, which has no effect on her.
These three ladies look nothing like the average black girl. SOrry.
Jennifer Hudson, Fantasia, Chrisette Michelle look like the average black girl.
The average woman is OVERWEIGHT. The average woman is the person you see everyday and your’e not running into Sanaa Lathan types.
I agree Persona…how about I wear a 10 and always get called skinny. Most of those women are no more than 5′6, 110 lbs at the most, and maybe a size 4.
UPDATE AS PROMISED: My brother Souleo was the last person to interview Donda West and since Monday we have been pitching the article to be published and we got great parti*****tion from West Brands to make sure the story went to the right outlet. It will be released on Dec. 11th for the Jan. 08 edition of Sister2Sister magazine. Check out Access Hollywood for the press coverage regarding her last interview with Souleo. Thanks for supporting!!
My first thought was that they look like chocolate white women. I guess it’s because they are all wearing weaves. Someone said they look like the Stepford Wives. I agree.
Oh, but it’s a nice cover shot and they each look gorgeous.
Although the average weight has increased I disagree with your statement. I see sanaa lathan types all the time. They are people trying to stay healthy. I am one of them. I’m only 5′2” but diabetes and hypertension run in my family so keeping my weight in check is key. You may be looking in the wrong places. LOL.
@ lady in Red
you ain’t the only one..I think gabby gorgoeus but she chooses the same damn role..she never is challenging and that’s why It gets boring..she always take less then exciting rols…the only time she was ever really popular was in 03′ Baby Boys 2.lol..gabby needs to stop makign excuses and go for some rols that would give her that exposure..there comes a time when it is people’s time to shien and she hasn’t got it yet.i love Gabby but that’s just me showing tough love..stop making excuses gabby and all the people that are defending her
Vick
______________________________________________
I’ve never seen all of her movies but she was the same type of person in “Deliever us from Eva” and “Daddy’s Little Girls”. On the plus side she is always the successful woman.
One thing I think that you guys need to realize in all your “Gabby needs to pick better roles” bash is that no one, especially black actors, just gets the parts they want. Most of the time a writer/director will hand pick who they want to be in a certain role and not let anyone else read for the part. Example Johhn Deep is the same character in every Tim Burton film. Tim gives these roles to Johnny. Mind you Johnny is a good actor and does well but no one else is giving the chance to audition for the roles. Movies for black actors/actress are already slim.
If we can’t talk straight in the barbershop, where can we?
i.e. if we can’t gossip about our own, where can we?
On the flip, all three women are absolutely GORGEOUS.
Nia Long is so pretty…they all are
They are all gorgeous, but I hate all the hair.
There you go again..why her career gotta be “little”? ..And I’m pretty sure she’s been in the business long enough to know ‘the game’. The game of tearing down successful blacks played by SOME blogs…
they are beautiful AND they are hoes. sorry, that’s the story on them – love them in some of their films but as a respective group, yeah, they most likely slept with the same lot of men .. wasn’t nia trying to do some bible group? greater the sin, greater the saint .. whatever, they are too pretty to be such trash .. and for the one comment that compared them to the whites in hollywood, listen, we don’t compare so whe there’s a legitimate complaint about blacks in hollywood, it’s ONLY for them – white chics can do what they want, their standard isn’t as high as ours
Trying to stay healthy means what? You can try to stay healthy and still be a big ‘un. Yes, there are many women that are out there getting their work out on –mainly in large cities –but that’s not a reflection of the greater society at large. People forget that.
Like, 99 percent of my friends have degrees. Does that mean everyone does? Not so much since only 20% of society as a whole has degrees.
Go to Jena Louisianna, IOWA, Oakland and then get back to me on whether all or even most women look like those three.
Gabriel is right though. The only Black people the white media (hate to call it that, but hey – what can else can you say?) care about are Hallie, Denzel, Jay-Z and Tiger Woods. The Black media blogs do cover “us”, but it seems like it’s overwhelmingly in a negative light. Not to say that Perez is any better, but I think because of the way the world is, we should be. C’mon people. If you don’t know, you’re crazy – they are laughing at us ya’ll. Get hip to it! Get your mind out of the sand! Keep it provocative, but at the same time overwhelmingly positive. OK – you can now proceed with the bashing as usual or you can prove me wrong. I don’t think you have the guts…
Nia is gorgeous and a great actress. Gabby’s acting is marginal, at best. I can’t stand her for some reason. Saw her in Deliver us From Eva, and she was awful.
co-sign with gymo up there. There are a few working black actresses, but not enough. Queen Latifah is getting her paper.
Oh, and Nia is even more gorgeous with short hair, and not all of that effn make-up.
Some of us blacks needs to stop being delusional..just because they black we not stop tearing them down..but I see Blacks on here tearing down white celebs…lol..come on now..lets try to weaken negativity for all people..the general audience loves Denzel and Halle is because they have taken universal roles..that everyone can love..that’s why they are praised because they are well-rounded. Gabby takes the same role as being a stuck up business woman. Sanaa is good too but she doesn’t do anything extremely out of the box for people to apprecaite her talent. Nia is great too but she hasn’t had her breakthrough. I’m sorry but every blog tears people up it comes with the territiory it ain’t worst than any blog. stop saying blacks are worst. I make fun of celebs but at the same time I enjoyed them.
Ladies-focus more on your career (which arent exactly glowing) and less on public opinion, of which you have ABSOLUTELY NO CONTROL!!!
@ Michelle
I feel ya. Wonder what the response would be if these three black goddesses were confortable enough in their own skins to rock their own hair in its God given natural state…..just wondering
I think this is the best Essence cover- all my fav actresses. I hope the content of the article has some substance.
lovely lovely cover. nia long looks a little stiff–the photographer should have adjusted the angle at which she was sitting and the weaves are a little too similar thus creating a very generic look, but overall a lovely cover.
I bet the article deals with there crack habits, ***** children, abortshuns and what rappers they want to *****. It hurts me to see you colored women idolizing these w*****s, yall need better role models.
I LOVE all three ladies and am an aspiring actress myself. In my opinion, those same white paparazzi hounding those white stars is what keeps them RELEVANT AND MAKING MONEY! That’s why you’ll see the white celebrities at any and every event to get their faces out there. Gabby, Nia, and Sanaa are not on their radar and truth be told, without these gossip sites all of their fans would be asking what happened to Sanaa, Gabrielle, and Nia? Its a double-edged sword but being on these black gossip sites is really one of very few ways we even get to see these beautiful black women…so in short…they betta be happy SOMEBODY CARES ENOUGH EITHER WAY TO PUT THEIR FACES OUT THERE FOR FOLKS TO REMEMBER!
U was nit taking a stab at her … and I also knew about the rape as well, but I did not think it was necessary to mention it. However the point is when she was an up and coming actress she gave the media everything and she was supported. And now that she is a semi star you mean to tell me that all of a sudden the public wants to much of her? When you ask for celebruty you have to take the good and the bad… the good being the money the fame, but you also have to take the good with the bad. so what she’s on blogs and things that have been said about her may or may n ot be true. But it comes with the territory. Any publicity is good publicity and she know this, if she wanted her privacy so much she can always leave the business. And once agin this is not about working at Payless or Mc Donalds. This is a GOSSIP site and I love it, I love talking about these celebrities, Hell all of my friends are boring nothing ever happens here ***** not haha
And might I add, U think they are all beautiful and I adore them, but I LOVE THE GOSSIP MORE
They are Ebony Sun Goddesses. Very beautiful.
I agree with ‘hey girl’ I played a sport in college and I knew what came with the territory and the sacrifice. G.U. isn’t the first and she won’t be the last. I’m sure there’s a 9-5 waiting on her somewhere. I am sooo tired of weave. In addition, what would the world be like if every Black woman had a shoulder length weave and got photoshopped? People that speak their mind are not haters…why do people pull that word out so quick to describe alternative opinions of things. People have the right not to agree with something or think it’s pretty. I know people that only think dark women are attractive, hell I have that think are plus sized women are fine. To each his own. Just because somebody isn’t drooling over these women does not mean it’s hate…it’s just not their thing – well. I’m sure our bossiping isn’t stopping anybodys career.
Weave is going to be the downfall of our community, lol. I don’t think these women see how far back their hairlines are getting and how those sides are balding. When some of them get caught w/o weave they look like they have a terminal illness or are going through something – that’s not right. Hair shouldn’t make you. First tracks, then extensions, now lacefronts. Genocide…
@ Sonny Corinthos aka Sun Goddess
Come back Sun Goddess, I miss you
Love The Stalker
@ Vick, Thanks for agreeing, but ZI think it is a little extreme to say that weve will be the downfall of the black community, I can think of a few more things but not weave. The point I was tryingh to make is and I think you got it, just because we as bloggers don’t agree withsomeone elses opinion does not mean we are haters. I know for a fact that I have good female friends I have sisters I love black women in a sisterly supportive way. But guess what I will talk about them hoes to if ned be and I think we all would. Let your sister friend or even your momma comeout looking like she just ate a bowl of gravy trainwith food drippings all onher shirt and mangled hair. we are going to go into attack mode and get them till they get it right. Not because we don’t like them but because we WANT them to look good and represent. SO if we do this to the ones we love what the hell are we supposed to do about celebrities.. I am going to give it to them till they get it right. Hell she knew what the deal was when she signed her soul over to the media devil… and if she want’s so much privacy get off the cover of essence and go home
Just because a person is black, it does not mean I will stand blindly behind you and support you every step of the way. Why should we? Didn’t our mother, fathers and grandparents march for equal rights? If we want to be treated equal then we can gossip as much as we want like every other group. She should be so lucky that people are paying attention to her and not on Hallie Berry who gets far more roles and more press time.
Ok, I agree again ‘hey girl & ed’ the term hate is used too loosely simply for going against the grain. As for weave being the downfall of our community, lol – another one of my jokes on the edge of reason. You are right…my friends and family give it to me the worse. When you get it from close friends that avoids external drama. Funny how when we see a woman that’s tore up…me and my girls shake our heads and say “Umm she must not have no friends or You better not ever let me leave the house looking like that.” Even if we’re out and somebody is acting inappropriate…we may say “Choke me out if I ever do that.” People need to realize gossip isn’t always based on hate, sometimes it’s based on selection, decorum, and personal preference. Like when people saw Halle’s extensions showing, it wasn’t done because people hate her – it was done because of how they were showing and hell people were shocked. I thought it was her hair too. We talk the same or even worse about the woman p*****ing by whose weave is showing. GU needs to stop complaining – really. The time she’s taking to check blogs, listen to gossip, and get caught out gazing at folk she should take a few acting cl*****es and get some dimension to her skill and character. She’s a one trick pony…with the hair. LMAO!
I am the editor of a blog and i happen to be a black woman. I am a little disenchnated by Gabby’s comments. Not all Blogs By Black Women post negative articles about Gabby or any of the other ladies. Actually there ar emany of us who appluad their talent, style and grace…
So Gabby better get her facts together and apologize soon before the backlash really begins..
By the way, could this be a publicity stint for her new movie “Home for the Holidays”?
How gabby know these websites are not run by white people. Just because it reports only black news does not mean it is run by a black person.
Rich & happy and aren’t they all single… no man in sight!!!
Im with you, Gabby. It’s one thing to state rumored news but some of you bloggers act like you were there and have pictures to prove for these trysts (which you dont). I wouldnt want to be called a homewrecker or round the way girl either! I LOVE LOVE LOVE NIA LONG! : )
That article had Bossip writtten all over it – all the stuff they were referencing I read it right here! Good thing I don’t take this ish literally!
Well, I read the article in Essence featuring 3 beautiful ladies, who in my opinion are great actresses. They were very inspiring. As far as weaves go, I don’t see the big deal. Hair doesn’t define a woman. It is just that….hair. It is like cosmetics..it enhances your looks. I’ve watched a lot of their movies and love their acting. You have to be picky about what roles to take…don’t just accept anything otherwise they don’t get that respect. They go through the struggles of trying to get that one role that will shoot them to world wide fame. Don’t get me wrong I love Halle Berry but if it wasn’t for the fact that she displayed her *ss on film with (of all the actors), Billy Bob Thorton, she would not have received that oscar. So, I don’t blame these 3 ladies for not giving in to just anything! I respect them even more.
now those are some serious go getta no doubt
i love all of them so much i dont what to say
those three women are so damn fined. they are so fined i dont know what to say about them . nia long is alway so damn fined alway. gabrielle union is so damn fined too.
Boo Hoo.. U wanna be in the limelight then u will be focuses on. Everday people get gossiped about. Whats so special about them? Black, White, Lation everyone gossips. And for all thoses who are “offended” by the gossip, why are u on Bossip which is a gossip site? HMMMM…..
