University Of California Irvine Offers “The Walking Dead” College Course

Via USAToday

Fans of The Walking Dead can take their extracurricular activities to class — virtually, that is.

AMC network has partnered with Instructure and the University of California, Irvine, to offer a massive open online course involving case studies from the zombie apocalypse TV drama.

The free, eight-week course is called Society, Science, Survival: Lessons from AMC’s The Walking Dead and is being offered on Instructure’s online Canvas Network, according to an announcement from AMC and its partners. UC Irvine faculty members from the departments of public health, social sciences, physics and math will be on the team of instructors.

“Fans of the show know that The Walking Dead is about more than zombies; it’s about survival, leadership and adapting to situations that are perilous and uncertain,” said Theresa Beyer, vice president of promotions and activation at AMC, in a statement. There is clearly a growing appetite for engagement with The Walking Dead, and we hope this online course will drive a deep, sustained connection with the show during its upcoming fourth season and offer a legitimate educational experience that can be applied even more broadly.”

Anyone may enroll in the course via http://www.canvas.net/TWD. The first class is scheduled for Oct. 14, the day after The Walking Dead’s Season 4 premiere. The course will run for eight consecutive Mondays through Dec. 2.

Can’t lie, we’d sign up for this course if we were in college. Don’t want to be ill-prepared for the zombie apocalypse…
