British Academy Accidentally Serves Bacon Sandwiches To Muslim Students
A British academy is apologizing after mistakenly serving Muslim students bacon sandwiches.
Principal Chris Quinn, of Ninestiles School in Birmingham, blamed the blunder on “human error” and called it an “unfortunate mistake.”
A Muslim teacher tasted the forbidden meat after biting into a baguette she purchased at the secondary school in July. According to the label, the sandwich was supposed to contain halal chicken and sweetcorn.
But she soon realized that something tasted porky.
“After eating it I became aware of a smoky smell and taste,” the teacher told the Birmingham Mail. “As I looked inside I was horrified to find that there were pieces of what I thought were ham.”
The teacher brought the sandwich over to the cafeteria staff, who confirmed her suspicions.
Says the teacher:
“I felt physically repulsed, terribly upset. I had never eaten pork before and couldn’t believe I was eating it by mistake at school,’’ she said.
The teacher said she’d taken the last baguette. Since more than 50 percent of the school’s children are ethnic minorities, and many of them are Muslim, the teacher believes she wasn’t the only one who unwittingly broke a religious law.
‘‘This means pupils were therefore not only given non-halal chicken, but were also given bacon, a meat that is clearly forbidden in Islam and is not supposed to be anywhere near the lips of a Muslim,’’ the teacher said.
Bet they lift the buns on those sandwiches before they chomp down from now on though…
