Indian American Miss America Talks About Racism
Via Rumor Fix reports:
Nina Davuluri achieved two very great heights on Sunday night with being crowned Miss America 2014 as well as becoming the first woman of Indian descent to win the pageant.
But while Duvuluri was celebrating, social media flooded with loads of haters, referring to the 24-year-old as “the Arab,” a “terrorist,” and “Miss 7-11,” with some people taking to Twitter with comments like, “This is America, not India,” as well as alleging that she has ties to al-Queda.
But like a true pageant princess, Davuluri shrugged off the racist remarks, stating in a press conference Monday, “I’m so happy this organization has embraced diversity,” she said, according to AP. “I’m thankful there are children watching at home who can finally relate to a new Miss America.” And making reference to the online attacks, Miss America said, “I have to rise above that. I always viewed myself as first and foremost American.”
Can this woman live??
