Jay Z Signs Steven Spielberg’s Kids As Artists To RocNation
Jay Z‘s Roc Nation roster has expanded once again, and this time the new signees are Hollywood royalty. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the children of famed director and producer Steven Spielberg have inked a deal with Jay’s management company.
Theo and Sasha Spielberg are 25- and 23-years old, respectively, and they record together as deejays under the name Wardell. With Sasha singing and Theo handling instrumentation and production, the siblings have cited everything from Christina Aguilera to Janis Joplin to the Strokes as major influences on their music — as well as their Los Angeles home.
“At the risk of sounding corny, the beach and the ocean are such a constant part of Los Angeles life, so that definitely seeps into our music,” Sasha told Vogue this past summer. “Classical music as well — they really knew what they were doing back then. Being moody is also a good path to a nice song.”
The duo released their debut EP, Brother/Sister, back in June; they also played Teen Vogue’s 11th anniversary party this year. Sasha is also a screenwriter. She has reportedly sold the pilot to a new series called “Girls Without Boys” to the ABC network.
“But music is still my passion,” Sasha said to THR. “I am going to find a way to balance both.”
Wardell’s debut album is due in 2014.
We’re not sure if these kids are any good, but we’re POSITIVE Hov would love to be in business with Steven Spielberg. We see you, sir.
