Michael Vick to Start Sentence

Michael Vick has decided he does not want to wait until December 10th to get things crackin on his sentence:
Michael Vick made arrangements Monday with the U.S. Marshall Service to voluntarily self-surrender to begin serving his sentence before his sentencing hearing on Dec. 10. Vick began serving his sentence Monday not because of a violation of any condition of his bond. Vick turned himself in so that he can begin serving his sentence earlier, meaning whatever sentence he receives on Dec. 10 potentially will end earlier. Vick’s sentencing hearing before Judge Henry Hudson will take place on Dec. 10 in Richmond, Va., which is when he will find out the extent of his sentences for chargers he pleaded guilty to in his dogfighting case.
Mike must be sick of watching the Falcons get their asses beat each Sunday and is trying to get this thing over with ASAP.

In other sports lock up news, Mike Tyson will serve one day of jail time tomorrow and three years probation for DUI and drug possession.

If he jumps into the joint BEFORE sentencing, then he can get the standard credit for “time already served” which is usually double, sometimes triple time. His lawyer advised him right on this one.

Ummm, I would’ve enjoyed one last Thanksgiving with my family, then checked into the slammer. Ya know, even though he did mess up with those dogs, it just seems kinda wack that he’ll do so much jail time AND lose his football career. Unfortunately for him, the PETA organization is just too strong.

What is this really about? I believe that It is the about the total annihilation and destruction of a symbol. What Michael Vick did was wrong, but don’t you notice that a certain symbol (black male) is always set forth as an example and if they stray or fall off their pedestals, they must be destroyed….not just punished for a mistake, but totally have their lives, their livelihoods and their reputations destroyed.
The hypocrisy surrounding the trial and subsequent sentencing of Michael Vick was a travesty of justice.
If you are a black male sports hero and you do anything that is deemed unseemly by the establishment, you must be destroyed or hounded until the end of time. It is like they tell you that we are only letting you have this because we’ve chosen you to be special for a little while. And, if you do anything that we don’t like, you’re going to pay dearly. It’s like you sell your soul to the devil and they get to play God with your life.
Ask O.J. Barry Bonds, Mike Tyson, Michael Vick and countless others?

I think certain jurisdictions move faster than others. Mind you, Robert Kelly is dealing with state charges. Michael is dealing with federal. The prosecutors on the federeal level have more room to push for things to move forward, whereas the state go by the time that is made for that case. I think that the people behind Robery Kelly’s career would like to see him make them more money from album sales and tours with Keyshia Cole, so they are providing the lawyers and maybe even paying off judges, whereas free agency in the NFL makes Michael Vick easily replacable. Also, I think ti’s interesting that Robert Kelly is dealing with what I think is a more serious offense, whereas Michael Vick is only guilty of animal cruelty.
The system is very flawed, Drock. I hope to make a difference in it after I graduate with my degree, though.

I think this is the beginning of another take-down of our black men. I mean really, think about it, the targets of the media and the government are all public figures. So what do our younger generation see, the public figures that they admire going to jail. Now I don’t agree with a lot of their actions or sometimes, what they represent, but Youth don’t totally grasp the ins and outs of EVERYTHING, so many times they focus on the surface and the big picture.
Black men get their lives *****ed away for petty offenses, while if the man was of another “persuasion” then they would get a slap on the wrist and minimal media coverage. Which often creates a subliminal sense of fear and inferiorty. Dog Fighting was commmon in the hood that I grew up in. And i feel that they could use the tax dollars that they are using on this case to prosecute those people who held that 19 year old black girl hostage and tortured her. They are b*****ically letting us know, a dog is more important than just treatment of our people. And the *****asination of black america continues to slip under our radar. What’s the best way to eliminate an entire group of people? Answer: Their Children What’s the best *****nal? Answer: Mental Deteriation.

@Al-Anon…you are right. The quicker we realize that we aint running nothing, the less surprising these events will be. I don’t care how much money you make. As long as some white person signs the check, you can have it all taken away. Vick broke the law and we all know black people can not break law and get away with it. Hell, at this point, I guess I should be thankful he didn’t get the gas chamber. Now, the illegal immigrants comming over here everyday. It is ok for them to break laws as long as some sad song comes with it. HE BROKE THE LAW. Where some of you get off defending criminals is completely beyond me. If u can’t do the time, don’t do the crime. It is only an injustice if u are innocent or if the punishment is unduly harsh, or, unduly lenient on the aggressor, none of which apply in this case.
Who cares? No one is bring Michael Vick down, he brought himself down! He’s an idiot. With so much talent and money, it seems he could have found something better to do with his time than parti*****ting in such an ugly hobby. And since the sentence hasn’t been handed down yet, you can’t argue if it is fair or not. He is a grown adult, he makes his own choices, and the choice he made was stupid!

I don’t think that any of us are defending criminals, or even suggesting that someone not do time when they break the law, however, I am asking if the punishment fits the crime. They are not just punished for a mistake, but totally have their lives, their livelihoods and their reputations destroyed. Is that necessary? Why is it that only black men seem to be singled out for the most severe punishment?
Is O.J. the first black man to ever be accused of killing a white woman? He was found innocent by a jury of his peers. What was he guilty of? Being able to afford a team of lawyers and experts to get him off. White people do it all the time.

I think Michael Vick and his lawyers know something that is not yet known to the media. There would not be a reason for him to go to prison early unless it’s an ulterior motive. I wonder what it is.
Early in, in hopes of an early out, maybe. It may look better to the judge that he’s going forward and serving time now. The judge may take this time served into consideration.

Thank you Al-Anon. That is correct. No one is defending Vick, but it should be recognized that it is only black people that get the fullest extent of the law put on them. For some folks, “He broke the law” means absolutely nothing other than get a good lawyer and that is what is not right. The law was written(not by blacks) to where there are two extremes for every law. Why is it that every time black people get the very harsh extreme? Vicks whole life should not be brought down over this period. Why am I saying this because it is not just a matter of “do the time”. It means that he will have gotten a record. Afterwards, if he can’t go back to the nfl, then he will have to find a job and may not be able to find one because of being in the system which leads to not being able to take care of a family. Ultimately, another black male down the tube. This is why it is so concerning. Example 2, the Jena 6 doesnt know it now, but they will have hard times finding jobs in 10 years time and it is because of felony charges on their record….more black men who can’t support families. So these incidents do have a stupendous dominoe effect.
