An inside look at ‘Celebrity Sew Ins’ with spokesperson Tasha Marbury….

Bossip Visits Celebrity Sew Ins And Chats With Tasha Marbury

Early on in this season of Basketball Wives, viewers got a glimpse into the world of new comer Tasha Marbury and her journey in preparation for the opening of her latest venture as the face of “Celebrity Sew Ins,” a new weave bar located in the Brownsville area of Brooklyn, NY.

The January 2013 soft-opening of the weave bar was all but deemed a failure on the BBW episode itself, so BOSSIP decided to pay a visit to “Celebrity Sew Ins” to see what’s really going on with the salon and how they’re holding up almost 8 months after the episode was filmed during a recent “Champagne & Sew Ins” meet & greet event hosted by Tasha herself.

Upon entering the shop, which officially opened 2 months ago,  it was evident that what was shown on the episode did it little justice. The space was tastefully draped in pink and white decor with a hanging chandelier above the welcome area which was located in the center of an all-white bar-like seating area with salon chairs and stylists at various stations ready to get busy. Customers were invited to walk the “pink carpet” before being escorted to the first station of the weave bar, where they found a logo-bearing pamphlet featuring detailed information about available services, pricing and photos of celebrity-inspired style choices. Alongside the pamphlets were a variety of extensions to choose from provided by Glam Luxe hair company.

After selecting hair, customers were then seated at the first station along the weave bar to get braided before heading over to the the second station for installation and styling. The basic time length for each service was 30 minutes, which you know is pretty impressive if you’re familiar with how long it normally takes to have a weave done. After satisfied customers finished getting styled, they were escorted to be photographed in front of the CSI pink carpet backdrop. Quite the one of a kind experience, we must admit.

Of course you know we couldn’t leave without getting the 411 from Tasha about what really happened with “soft opening” shown on the show, whether or not she and Tami will actually be doing business together, what she thinks of her cast members at present, and more.

Hit the flip to peep our chat with Tasha and more pics from her meet & greet, along with a pic of the first celebrity CSI customer, whom you’ll probably recognize.

Here’s what Tasha had to say during our quick chat:

On the opening:
We had 2 days to pull something together [as far as an opening] or not have it on the show at all so, we did what we could with that amount of time and that was what you saw. Anyone who has ever owned a business or handled a soft opening knows that there are always glitches. Of course, ours were magnified on the show but, it’s not an uncommon thing to have a few bumps in the road when you’re starting off.

[For example] Evelyn had her shoe store and that was her business so, I’m sure she knows what it takes to get a business up and running and that there will be somethings that won’t go as planned. It’s normal.

On whether or not she’ll work with Tami in the future as discussed on the show:
If the opportunity presents itself, absolutely. I have no problems with Tami if something works out then, sure. Like I said on the show, I think we black women give each other the hardest time and it doesn’t have to be like that.

On her relationships with the other cast members at present:
I don’t have “problems” with any of the girls. We can either be friends or not but, you know, we’re grown women so, for me, it doesn’t go beyond that.

On why she joined the show & if she regrets joining now:
I’d been asked to be on the show since it started. I agreed to do this season because I was told that they were changing the direction and making it more positive.

No, I don’t regret doing it because it gave me more of a platform to be able to bring attention to the positive things that I’m doing business-wise so, I don’t regret it at all.

On if she’d do another season:
Absolutely.

We also had a chance to chat with Celebrity Sewins co-owners Heather Williams and Crystal Peters, who wanted to clarify that the purpose of opening the salon in Brooklyn was to give Brownsville and surrounding area residents the opportunity to receive a quality weave installation service experience at an affordable price.

Check out a few more photos from the event on the flip, including a shot of Tahiry rocking her freshly laid celebrity sew-in and a peek at the delicious refreshments courtesy of Tres Chic cupcakes.

LHHNY cast member and media correspondent Tahiry Jose hit up CSI as their first celebrity customer before heading to ATL to host the BET Hip Hop Awards red carpet earlier this month……and stop by our BOSSIP offices, of course!

During a quick chat with some of the CSI stylists, we learned that the majority of the ladies working in the shop are single mothers and/or residents of Brownsville or nearby who have been able to do things like go back to school and provide for their families on a consistent basis while doing what they love as a result of their employment at CSI.

All in all, Celebrity Sew Ins seems like it’s well on the way to much success and managing to give back in the process. Shoutout to Tasha Marbury, Crystal Peters and Heather Williams for inviting us to get a first-hand look at the CSI experience!
