Although Madea was Mr. Perry’s claim to fame, Why Did I Get Married? is unaruguably his best film to date. So…he decided to make a sequel:

Will there be another pairing with Tasha Smith?
Tyler Perry: ‘Why Did Get Married Too?’ I’m writing it right now.

Why do a sequel to the film?
Tyler Perry: Because there is so much I want to say. There’s not another film that I have written that I felt like there’s more to say; and there’s more say in ‘Why Did I Get Married Too.’

Will it the same cast or a new group of actors?
Tyler Perry: It will be the same cast. Everybody. I won’t do it without the original cast.

What’s the storyline?
Tyler Perry: I can’t talk about it now, but it’s going to be great.

If this sequel is packed with the cheating, venereal diseases, and bottle-smashing-upside-the-head antic that was in the first one, it should be pretty good.

What do you think?

I liked the first one (even though Janet and Tyler’s acting was horrible imo). I hope they bring Tasha Smith, Jill Scott and Richard Jones back cause they were really bringing it in this movie.

I am oh so sick and tired of Tyler Perry right about now. He comes out with a movie every year and it’s really beginning to get on my last nerve! The last one he did was the BEST. He needs to take a break. Hell, give us a break.

I love his movies. I am looking forward to this sequel.

  • sistafriend

I am looking forward to supporting (in the theaters) any films written/directed by Mr. Perry. He does a wonderful job bringing life to the characters. Plus, why not support our own Derrick??? But you will go to the movies to watch Iron Man, Dark Knight, etc? Puh-leez.

(BTW, Meet the Browns is my all-time fav TP movie)

  • the_one

I actually thought he movies were getting better, you know with plots, character developement, good writing but then this mess with Madea is scheduled to come out and I am already rolling my eyes hard, why do we need bafoonery chittling circuit films. Geesh, two steps forwards with Obama, ten steps back with Madea.

Laugh if you want to but I am tired of the man-woman, rolling neck, talking smack big black woman, what about films about us being us and not stereotypes dreamed up by men. Why play into the stereotype of some negative women within our community. Last time I checked jail was not cool, funny, or good movie plot. Ask the women who are really locked up. Good Gracious.

2009 Theme, I love Black Women, We are Smart, Beautiful and Loving. Who is making a film about that not set back in the 60, 70, or before time for those who are going to say the Secret Life of Bees. How about us now. And please some “black” women not half quadroon malattos, weave alots or video hoeish types, we are better then that, there are a lot of Michelles to draw from–people. When is Tyler or Spike or anyone else going to make that film, and not about us chasing men –Waiting to Exhale either, but about us being mothers, wives, ambitious, smart women, movies they make about them. Damn, I am tired of the same old b.s.

  • JAD

@Sistafriend I agree. I cant wait for the sequel. That is my favorite Tyler Perry Movie!

  • Aunt Viv

I wasn’t a fan of the first Why…Married. But do you Tyler, make that money.

  • the_one

And the movie could be a comedy, drama, action movie, its called think outside of the BET- MTV/Viacom stereotype. Anyone see a movie about little black girls anytime lately, I can name at least two to three about little white girls, in the last year alone, does that upset anyone else. DAMN and not animation, I mean movies with us. Wait there was one, with KeKe and Ice Cube but we didn’t go support it, AGAIN.

  • Derrick

sistafriend – I truly support my own but I refuse to support over the top, poorly directed, bad acted, blatantly bad movies no matter what color the director. I have seen three Tyler Perry movies based solely on the color of his skin I think that are HORRIBLE. I hated myself after Diary of a Mad Black Woman, I sought counseling after Madea’s Family Reunion, and I would have walked out of Why Did I Get Married but I get there early and was stuck in the middle. I think his comedy is not funny and his drama makes me laugh. Sorry, but I hate it all.

  • Ashley

Rant if you want, but his films actually have a moral theme that ties the plot together. It is hardly buffoonery to imitate the mannerisms displayed by MANY A GRANDMOTHER across the country. He does not demean African Americans in any way. To degrade him by contrasting him with Obama is ridiculous. Tyler Perry is an innovative, self-made man (with God’s will, of course), and is a testament to hard work and determination (just like Obama.) So do your research, and really think before you come on here to CONDEMN a brother since you want to cite Obama. You’re part of the problem.

  • Raushanah

Tyler Perry is my cousin so Im supporting any and everything he does. Im sure it’s gonna be a fantastic movie like all the rest.

  • Lauren the Lurker

Okay does he mean Why Did I Get Married, TWO or TOO??? Confused….

  • Lauren the Lurker

Oh and on a side note, I LOOOOVE TYLER PERRY’S HOUSE OF PAYNE, I watched it for the first time yesterday and that show is HILARIOUS!

  • http://www.sheliagoss.com Shelia

Why Did I Get Married was his best movie to me (along with The Family that Preys) so I’m looking forward to a sequel.

  • Nih(Fellow Houstonian)

Your always gonna have people disagree, with someone positive. Life is full of na-sayers. If someone feels so strongly about TP’s movies being un-entertaining or whatever, get that competitive bone working and you write what you think is a better film. See where it goes, don’t down someone for making a better life for themselves and OTHERS for that matter. I promise it is good for the soul to see if you can do better than the next man or woman. So stop talking and do, OBAMA DID and won. Who knows yours may be the next big thing to cause a BLACK WOMAN to win a OSCAR for a BLACK film under a BLACK DIRECTOR with a BLACK OWNED production company!!!!!!!!

“Why Did I Get Married Too (sic)?
Insert: blank stare. It is two, not too…
Dear, Bossip: You all are playing with my mind this morning. I was sitting in my chair studying the title for the longest time trying to make sense of it. It is too early in the morning (West Coast) to play grammar games.

  • Christie’s secrets (FELA KUTI, THE AFRICAN SOUL GODFATHER : MUSIC AS WEAPON)

So because Tyler Perry is black, we have to like his movies! Im sorry but NO! I like some of his movies but I dont see why we have to always keep this drama, ghetto nonsense all the time! I miss Spike Lee! His movies were very diverse and he was not only using black actors! He could do a movie like “Summer of Sam” and then do something like
‘do the right thing”! Tyler Perry is boring! He is already rich so maybe he should help other creative screenwriters and try not to be in ALL his damn movies! LOL! He is no woody allen!

I want a black action movie, I want a black james bond, I want a black indiana jones, I want a black top gun, There is countless of possibilities! and tyler perry cannot do no fiction?! How about he picks a book and propose his own interpretation on a movie… That would be nice

  • Maybeline

You’d be surprised @ how many screenwriters/directors have proposed action/drama/non stereotypical black films. The problem is that those films don’t get funded. These production companies only want black comedies/or stereotypical films because they think that blacks shown in a positive or innovative films won’t generate any money @ the box office.

It’s all about the bottom line.

  • Toni

Hopefully he reconsiders the cast and leaves Ms.Jackson out of it.She didnt help the movie.

  • Maybeline

The black folks with the money, don’t wanna help fund any good films for us.

Spike Lee was complaining, not to long ago about not being able to get funded for one of his films, because the investors didn’t feel it would generate money…seee

  • LADY ARCHITECT

I enjoyed Why did I get Married in its movie version versus the actual play. I don’t know about a sequel, but I can’t judge until I see the previews and things for it. I think it’s good that he’s taking advantage right now while he is in the prime stage. He has a standard fan base that will always have his movies gross in the millions.

    the_one,
Spike Lee just had a movie out a few months ago “Miracle of St. Anna” did you see it? I surely hope so because it was a great movie and required Spike to do a lot of research for it. He’s also coming out with like 2-3 other movies this year so look out for those.

  • The Foosa

coming to bossip is like watching crabs in the barrel…There is just so much hate here

  • musakfool

Yo there was so much hype over the first one and i thought it would be different than the other movies. It wasn’t..All his movies are a like a cross between Family Matters, Whats Love Got to Do With it and a bad Lifetime movie. It’s getting old.

Yo and Ms. Jackson was that movie.

  • shhwhisper

I just watched The Family that Preys last night and I’ve got a new respect for Tyler Perry. Everybody’s acting was on point. Alfre Woodard can make you shed tears when those big eyes of hers well up.

  • Toni

Yo and Ms. Jackson is getting old and yo so is her acting. And yo those who start with Yo would think these movies are getting old, Yo.

  • D-nice

    Yo u right son!

  • LADY ARCHITECT

    CHRISTIE,
HIS 2009 MOVIES ARE NOT OUT YET, BUT “MIRACLE OF ST. ANNA” CAME OUT IN 2008 AND IT WAS EXCELLENT, BUT THEY LIMITED THE PUBLICITY AS ALWAYS. I BELIEVE SPIKE LEE ALSO FUNDED THAT MOVIE BECAUSE NOBODY WANTED TO FUND IT SHOWING THE TRUTH BEHIND BLACK SOLDIERS’ CONTRIBUTIONS.

  • http://bossip tiababy09

i think his best film to date was “MADEA’S FAMILY REUNION” HANDZDOWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the movie was hot the actors/actresses were hot and so was the soundtrack!!!! i jus love me some tyler perry though…he keeps it so real.

  • Ndidi

Omg! Yayayayayayay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 LOVED IT!!!! So happy, keep doing what you doin Perry!

  • soulwoman

@ Christie’s secrets (FELA KUTI, THE AFRICAN SOUL GODFATHER : MUSIC AS WEAPON)

Although I respect Tyler Perry, and have enjoyed most of his movies, I understand where you are coming from. I’ve been feeling that way for a few years now. The family movies are cool but we can do so much more than that.

  • The Foosa

    @ Christie’s secrets

I say hate because thats what i see here on daily. You have black celebs trying to change their own and their family’s lot in life and all i see here are people constantly trying to bring them down with nonsense like “oh, im so tired of (enter celeb name here), they make to many songs, they are a media whore, they make to many movies, blah, blah, blah, blah. Thats hate. Most responses to these posts/listings or whatever you want to call them arent well though out and critical. Most of them seemed to be filled with jealousy…thats hate!

  • MarkH320

TYLER PERRY MOVIES HAVE A HOMOSEXUAL EDGE THAT SUBLIMINALLY MISPORTRAYS HOW BLACK WOMEN SHOULD SEE THEIR BLACK MEN. THE MOVIES ARE FAMILY ORIENTED, BUT THEY’RE FAGGOT ASS DRAMAS THAT KEEP BLACK WOMEN LOST ABOUT THEIR MEN. BLACK PEOPLE ARE MESSED UP AND DRESSING UP LIKE A PUNK AND HIRING GAY ACTORS FOR STRAIGHT ROLES SENDS SUBLIMINAL MESSAGES. AND YOU WONDER WHY MANY BLACK WOMEN CAN’T TELL WHEN THEIR MAN IS A HOMO. ITS SHIT LIKE THIS.

  • BSStinks

I think that the issue lies in the fact that there aren’t enough black filmmakers and creators out there. If we had more of that, then there would be no need to completely shut out Tyler Perry or even BET.

But, because we ONLY get one black sort of representative at a time, that’s what makes people get all up in arms about how the black experience is being presented in the entertainment industry.

We just need to first believe that we also deserve to be seen and heard, and secondly, support those who attempt to make that happen.

So, basically, the key is variety. Whites get to show nearly a full spectrum of who they are in film and on television (from the the white trailer trash to the white CEO), it’s our time, to be able to show the same.

  • BSStinks

Oh, forgot to add: and to not expect for that variety to come from just one person or one network.

  • that one girl

YES!!!!!!!! One of my personal favorite of his. Good choice.

  • thatbitch

I respect Tyler Perry even though some of his movies are stereotypical and slightly coonish. To his credit he writes and produces his own films instead of waiting for somebody to green light a project for him. He’s not gonna please everybody. Just like there are people who see Tyler Perry movies as simple and silly there are those who find Spike Lee projects bloated and preachy. You can’t please everybody. I happen to like films by both men. And Tyler is smart to keep the original cast. It doesn’t matter if Janet is the best actress or not, at the end of the day she was apart of the original cast and you don’t mess with a winning formula.

  • wifey06

atleast he not running to the white man having the man control his work. I love black self dependency. So many times we haev to rely on the man to produce or make us in this industry. i can’t wait until Oprah gets her network totally straight and Tyler can move his shows to her station. About time we get our own true network.

His show has gotten way better and they have added more color to the show by adding hispanics. Some people do not want to see shows with black family and love b/c it is not a reality to them There are some that will never get beyond their block and only want to see, be and stay in the same environment.

  • truth, iam a girl

I LIKE HIS PLAYS AND MOVIES ALOT!!! Yes at times they are a tad too silly but he gets the point across… Go Tyler Perry we need more of you!!

iF YA BLACK FOLKS DONT LIKE IT THAN MAKE UP YOUR OWN!!!

  • truth, iam a girl

    @WIFEY06

    —————————————————-

YOU ARE RIGHT MAINSTREAM MEDIA/people do not want to see black family or black love…. ITS SAD.. But thats why I am glad Tyler shows it, cause there are black families and black love in reality!! I grew up with both parents so I am glad to see shows that reflect my upbringing as well as encourage others to have black families like mines! We were not perfect by all means but we were together… Anyway We need to see black love so that the world and we know that it is possible and A REALITY!!

  • Christie’s secrets (FELA KUTI, THE AFRICAN SOUL GODFATHER : MUSIC AS WEAPON)

well,i love action! i did enjoy this movie but i feel like we have so much potential and a guy like tyler perry and someone like oprah could invest more money to create a blac hollywood! even in nigeria, they are more dynamic with their “NOLLYWOOD” lol, just kiddin but it could be really profitable!

  • Respect where it’s due

He is a great writer. I wish him nothing but more success…Stop the hate, the man has proved he is skilled.

  • Can’t wait!

    OMG! more Janet!!!!!!! Yes!

  • Christie’s secrets (FELA KUTI, THE AFRICAN SOUL GODFATHER : MUSIC AS WEAPON)

Look at the success of afro samourai,! Maybe we can do some fiction like heroes or whatever, i love heroes! damn!

  • OoOoGirl

IMO “The Family That Preys” was his best movie thus far! Followed by “Diary of a Mad Black Woman”… I think he’s a great screen writer and the fact that he’s a black man is just a plus.
If you don’t like Tyler then don’t support his movies. There’s enough people that do love his movies (including white people) so you’re little $10 movie ticket isn’t going to make or break him.

  • AJ

To all the Tyler Perry haters, his movies are getting better and better each time he makes one. Why did I get married was an awesome movie. And I enjoyed it just as much as The Family that Preys. I’ve only missed Daddy’s Girls thus far. And I am not stupid by far with mad degrees behind the name. I get the point of where Tyler is going. He’s talking to what blacks that experience this stuff. And this is a lot of people’s life. Get used to it.

  • MissBlaze44

Actually, I think THE FAMILY THAT PREYS is his best – then WHY DID I GET MARRIED.

THE FAMILY THAT PREYS had some really good characters in it and it was so much more believable and real than the others.

That movie was really good for those of you who haven’t seen it yet.

  • MissBlaze44

Oh, yeah, I forgot about Daddy’s Little Girls (also good) and Diary of A Mad Black Woman (also good).

Nothing wrong with him coming out with back-to-back movies. Spike Lee did the same in his early career.

  • Shaneen

I can’t wait to see it, I love Tyler Perry movies and I really loved Why Did I Get married. That was such a good movie and I can’t wait for the sequel.

  • TheGoodGood

hum… haven’t seen any of his movies.. I did see a portion of Diary on TV and it’s trashy and fake acting.. I dunno about the rest.. this madea chracter seems like a cartoon character.. are black people really like that?

  • Simply & Naturally Beautiful

Why Did I get married..was a great movie…tasha took it to where it needed to be. And honestly Ms.Jackson herself killed it on her kitchen scene…(I was teary-eyed and all) she was good. The movie was great. If Tyler can squeeze anything out of that I am willing to watch it.

  • http://Bossip Team Mashonda

Y?????? Tyler Perry Movies are Horrible

  • Sharpton’s perm

    @Derrick

I co-sign everything you said. this guy needs to steep up his filmmaking skills. he’ll never be compared to the great directors/writers out there.

  • Marc B’s Honey

I don’t think Tyler needs to step up his filmmaking skills. I actually think he is one of the most talent black filmmakers there is. He is doing the damn thing, and I am absolutely thrilled by his success. Furthermore, he has such a wonderful testimony that not many people may know about. God truly works miracles when you put him fist, and Mr. Perry is a living testament of that!!! Keep doing the thing, Tyler :-)

  • Marc B’s Honey

    @ Christie’s Secret…

Uuuh, wasn’t Spike Lee in all of his movies, too?…exactly

  • 2dimplzs

The Family That Preys in my opinion was his best film to date. Why did I get married was drama filled and entertaining and it did hit on some real emotions but I don’t think it deserved a sequal. I understand what Tyler is doing and I take his comedy for what it is – comedy. To others it’s buffonery, coonnery, etc. It is what it is but I understand the arguments on both sides. My only issue is with House of Payne and Meet the Browns. I tried my darndest to watch those shows and like them, but the acting is HORRIBLE! Tyler needs to hire actors and actresses who can act and are funny. These shows are not funny, the jokes aren’t all that funny and there are many instances where there is this uncomfortable silence after a joke is said and it’s like you hear crickets or something! I applaud what Tyler is trying to do but I hope he invests more into making his shows more quality and polished shows. He’s cranking out so many shows per week but where is the QUALITY?

  • Mr. Cool

    @?

Tyler Perry should consider reducing the number of characters and fully develop the main character with a major moral dilemma. A film called “Vera Drake-2004” is an good example. He should also consider strengthen up his major turning points in the story to prevent everyone from being able to predict the outcome of his films.

These actions will make his film even COOLer.

  • milfs

    @Marc B’s Honey

you’re already downgrading him by calling him a great ‘black’ filmmaker. Do we need the ‘black’ i front? i think he’d love white/asian/etc to pay $$$ to see his films. you just put him in avery very small box.

i say small because his movies do not make any money overseas like other movies.

But let’s be real, this man will never be compared to a Spielberg, Scorcese or anyone else on that level.

Maybe he’s got enough skills to entertain you and some of the people on Bossip, but he ain’t crossing over.

  • Sharpton’s Perm

ps- all i think of when i see his new poster is “grown black man in a dress in jail”.

    not a good look

  • mz.tete

i think it wil be fun to watch but he needs to bring more reality into this cuz most couples dont stay together after sharing std’s that they got from other people..other than that the movie will be great!

Oprah is grooming him. Make the paper by any means necessary, then you can write your own ticket later in life. Just like she did with those ridiculous, inflammatory episodes she used to have. Now she is THE MOST POWERFUL WOMAN IN THE WORLD, NOT JUST IN ENTERTAINMENT. HELLO, SHE PLAYED A BIG PART IN GETTING PREZ OBAMA ELECTED. TRUST, IF HE HADN’T WON IOWA, WE’D HAVE PRESIDENT HILLARY CLINTON RIGHT NOW.

The problem with Black America is not TP movies, Madea, or the caricature of Black women on screen. THE PROBLEM WITH BLACK AMERICA IS THE DESTRUCTION OF THE BLACK FAMILY. It doesn’t matter if TP made the best movies in the world, we have to PULL OURSELVES UP TO A HIGHER STANDARD. STOP MAKING EXCUSES!

I can’t stand Madea movies, but not for the same reasons as everyone else. I think they’re predictable with poor acting. Just like MOST movies made today. Did you know that the TP Studio is the only Black Owned tv production company in the nation? He’s gotta make that paper, then he’ll be able to produce and distribute movies for other excellent film writers, directors, actors without having to go beg Hollywood (the white man) for shyt!

Reading these comments makes it so clear why we are STILL crabs in a bucket. We can’t pull our selves out the bucket, for tearing everyone else down.

  • Tanya

I can’t wait! That movie in my opinion was his best. All of his movies are good though and you’ve got to commend him for doing it with the same actors/actresses. I am so proud of him! You go black man with a black woman by your side (the chick he’s dating)!!!

  • http://bossip DC

Well what about hit tired a** shows on TBS. I dont care for them I know that black actors have to work but dam but them in good roles. None of his shows are good for the public and one is suppose to be chritian. I dont think so revamp the hole show Tyler Perry.

  • sepia830

    @Derrick

Just say no to Tyler Perry movies, PLEASE!!!
    __________________________________________________

That’s all I’m saying. It seems to me that his movies attract the church-going crowd, the unintelligent and coons.

My hairdresser just admitted to me that he can’t stand Tyler Perry movies, that they are some of the worst things ever put on film. Then he says, “I’m not going to see it, but I might buy a ticket just to support black films.” What the f*ck?!! Let me explain something to those of you who don’t understand how the movie business works and anybody who might think like my dumb ass hairdresser. When you support a black film, make sure it is one of quality. Why? Because the movie executives look to see what black people spend their money on before making decisions to finance productions. In other words, if a lot of people run out to see Tyler Perry movies, that’s the kind of shit they finance. Because black people didn’t run out to see Talk to Me, Hotel Rwanda, etc.., quality black films (like the ones made by Spike Lee) are almost impossible to get financed.

So because so many of you have been lining Tyler Perry’s pockets with dough, he just won’t go away. The sad thing is that he doesn’t even have to put much creative effort into his storylines anymore. His name and the Madea character alone will have the usual suspects running to see his crappy movies. It sad actually.

  • sepia830

And as for the crab in a bucket theory, that sh*t is old and tired. This ain’t the 1950′s. Why do we as black people HAVE to support other black people because they are black? Why shouldn’t we be able to apply thought to situations and make decisions about films based on substance? Black people who do not like Perry films are not crabs in a bucket trying to bring him down. We’re just not robots or conformists like some of the rest of you.

  • mimi

Black folks sicken me when they say ignorant things like “Tyler Perry needs to take a break” I never heard anyone say to Spilberg to take a break. Make that money Tyler!!!! Can’t wait for the sequel. SMDH at some of yall!

Tired of Tyler playing these female roles acting crazy. Produce some action roles with black men. Nobody wants to see that to many people would feel threatened by that not saying who but those people know who they are. Yes he makes a ton of money but is that all we care about is the cash. Black men want to see the positive action role and no i am not talking about some pants sagging skinny punk drug dealer. Tyler should produce some of those types of flicks as well as those relationship flicks. Tired of seeing our black males acting unmanly or smiling and grining at the expense of the dollar. To many people are threatened to see a strong black male actor

  • Rusty

the sequel shold be about his character being on the “downlown”. what do you guys think? Art imitating life?
