Anika Noni Rose

The first black Princess of Disney spoke to people and expressed her joy yet reserve about the whole situation:

Jumping from the stage to the world of animation, Tony Award-winning actress Anika Noni Rose takes on her most enchanting and monumental role yet: Princess Tiana, Disney’s first black princess.  “This feels amazing,” ……Rose, 36, told PEOPLE this week at the Manhattan unveiling of the toy line for The Princess and the Frog. “Not only is she the first black princess, she’s the first American princess. We’ve never had an American princess. So, the scope and the significance is larger than people even realize.” Rose, who costarred with Jennifer Hudson in the 2006 film Dreamgirls, also had comforting words for her former costar, who recently suffered an overwhelming family tragedy.  “She knows she has my support and if she ever were to need me, she’s got me,” said Rose. “Sometimes you’ve just got to let people know that you’re there, and then let go, and then people come to you when they are ready.” In the meantime, Rose is enjoying her newfound role as “Princess of America.”  “I’m not like, skipping down the street with it, but when you take a moment and you think about the fact that this is what America has chosen to put out as Princess-hood, Princess-dom, it’s amazing,” she said.

We hear her. It’s all good and well, but Disney is not the USA. What took them so long?

This is soooooo over due!!! When you think about it, it wasn’t that long ago when blacks weren’t allowed in the Mickey Mouse club. Progress is a slow process ain’t it?

  • His E-Minence

Wow its so different to hear people talk like this about someone you actually know a lil…wow. Yeah she’s a looker, but umm, please y’all chill with the salad tossing comments. She’s like almost fam.

  • MS. Info

From a very credible source, I have just recently found out that Terrence from 106 & park has recently contracted the STD Herpes. While visiting Miami he had a liaison with a groupie who had the STD Herpes and witch then spread to Terrence. Yes, its true.

  • MarkH320

She’s gorgeous! But I still think its highly suspicious that corporate america is plastering black folks in high profile places all of a sudden. We’ve been lazy ass thugs and bitches for the past 20 years and have done little for the struggle…Anyway, she beats looking at Beyonce’s blank ass face.

  • Wenzel Dashington

We had a black president before Disney would let a princess be black. But we had our black asses in Disney World every summer. SMH

  • TbeenITsince87

  • unico

I saw a trailer on youtube, it looks so cute! and the voice is perfect.

such a shame the story had to change so much to suit whiners… like “AWWWWWWWWWWWWSHADDAAAAAP!!!!” for example. People who think that everything put out is for racism.

Why does Disney or anyone for that matter have to start making everything about black ppl just because the president is black, why cant things just be left alone? Whats next, are they going to change frosty the snowman to be made of MUD instead of snow so hes not white anymore?

OMG it’s about time. I remember an article a few years ago saying Disney would be unveiling their first Black princess in 2009. It took them long enough. Geesh.

  • YTLurker

It’s about damn time! We love Disney and we may be adopting a black child. I’d like her to be able to relate to at least one of the Disney Princesses.

  • Good Ol’ Fashion Regular Draws

I know I’m late as hell on this one but, helloooooo- Pocahontas was the first American, Native American in fact. And I’m not saying Disney was right for this shit, but don’t act like they wait for Obama to win to start working on this. It’s been 6 years in the making.

  • Samantha

There is another black princess, a real one , Princess Angela of Liechtenstein who was born in Panama.

  • http://princesstianadoll.net Rachel Courtney

Yeah I agree…It’s all about time. Anyway, I really like her smile.

  • shamus goldensteinbergbaum
