Bossip reported some time ago that Rihanna initiated the fight. Now it looks like Chris Brown and his team have come up with a reason as to why he beat the living dog sh*t out of Rihanna; self defense:
A source tells Life & Style magazine, “Chris is already building his case. “He’s saying she threw a phone at him, then hit him in the head and basically just lost it. He’s saying she attacked him.” Darren Kavinoky, a criminal defense attorney in LA, said of Brown’s defense: “Unless there’s some indication that she was enraged to the point that she physically threatened him, I think he’d have a tough time with that defense. “If it goes to court, ultimately it would be up to a jury to decide.

To help out the Chris Brown defense, Rihanna, still has not filed charges:
Rihanna is reluctant to press charges over her alleged beating at the hands of ex boyfriend Chris Brown, according to U.S. reports. Brown was arrested and charged with making criminal threats following an alleged attack on the Umbrella hitmaker after a pre-Grammys party on 8 February (09). He was freed on bail following the incident. He is due in court in Los Angeles on 5 March (09) for an arraignment hearing. Police are still gathering evidence on the case but Rihanna has so far not come forward to press charges against her ex lover, according to In Touch magazine. A spokesman for Los Angeles district attorney’s office tells the publication, “We do not have enough evidence and there have been no charges filed on the Chris Brown case.” But the spokesman is adamant they will seek justice – even if Rihanna doesn’t appear in court to testify. The spokesman adds, “If the state gathers up enough evidence, we will press charges with or without her testifying. It is not up to the victim. She will not have to show up during the arraignment.
The D.A. does not need Rihanna to testify, but it sure does hurt the case to know she is not cooperating. Despite the tat’s on Chris, he is a first time offender and depending on the severity of her wounds, might not get any time.

And it’s not because she loves him so much. It’s because her dirt will come out, and she knows it. They have witnesses of her past behavior, trust that. I really feel that there are too many holes and inconsistencies in her story. That does not mean he won’t get charged. They don’t need her to file, but they need her to be able to weather the cross-examination. The record company may have to deal with a tarnished star, if he and “friends” tells all. We know he’s mounting a defense, self-defense.
And I believe that they haven’t been together or talked since the incident. Not only because of the legal ramifications but also because of the simple fact would anyone want to speak to someone that has cause although indirectly or directly the demise of your future. He’s nineteen and he does have a mother and a father. Do you really think they have no input especially his mom? I’m sure his ppl are livid at the thought of them getting back together. No, I don’t see it at all. Just as I suppose Rihanna’s ppl aren’t excited about her getting back with him at all. This is all about damage control for HER!

The girl is hi-yella, so of course, they will look worse on her. If he had really beat her down, her bruises wouldn’t have been gone that fast, once again, because she is so light.

Chris has some maturing to do however what he did was not only immature but senseless and coward like behavior. Chris isn’t a huge guy but since when does Rhianna weigh more than 110 lbs? My man hands are illegal on the streets unless he really is using self-defense because he’s a 3rd Degree Black Belt. Rhianna has some short-commings as well so this was just a dysfunctional relationship publicized at the cost of their careers because *****ody knew better. God forgives us and so I can forgive Chris and Rihanna for their childish and shocking behavior. They just need men and women and pastors to wrap them up in their arms and teach the right way to be in relationships. They have had very traumatic childhoods and bad role models (even though their parents love them). God bless, Chris. Even though Rihanna was photographed and obviously injured to some degree, I am sure this is very hard for him too especially if he has never done this before. It is quite shocking to know that you can harm another person so easily. He walked away too late.

I’ve thought a lot about the switching of roles that you referenced in the black community, and what I refer to as the “defeminization” of black women. And I think there are signs of this condition in some of the responses to this incident and others like it.

As police wind down their investigation of Chris Brown in the alleged beating of Rihanna earlier this month, ultimately the injuries suffered by the victim will determine whether the singer faces a charge carrying a likely penalty of probation – or time behind bars.
So far, no charges of any sort have been filed against Brown, 19, who was arrested Feb. 8 in Los Angeles after allegedly *****aulting the R&B star. He was booked by police for making criminal threats – a felony – but the case has not yet been presented to the District Attorney, who will ultimately determine which charges, if any, will be prosecuted.
As shocking as the high-profile case has been, experts say that even ugly-looking domestic *****aults don’t necessarily mean automatic jail terms, because misdemeanor charges are overwhelmingly filed in such cases.
For a first-time defendant, which Brown would be, the charge would hinge largely on how badly the victim was hurt. Factors such as a victim’s cooperation with authorities, or whether the victim initiated the struggle, are less important.
“After examining police photos, medical records or reviewing victim statements, the injuries usually speak for themselves,” says L.A. criminal defense attorney Jeffery Rubenstein, who is not involved in the Brown case. “Either they rise to a felony level or they don’t.”
Probation and Counseling
Brown has no known criminal record, and police have yet to officially release any evidence from their investigation, though they have referred to the case as “a domestic violence incident … involving entertainer Chris Brown.” They have not formally identified Rihanna, 21, as the victim.
The distinction between a misdemeanor charge and felony is an important one. A misdemeanor is a crime punishable by up to a year in county jail, but domestic violence cases usually result in probation and counseling. Felonies are punishable by more than a year in state prison.
Last year, the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office filed 2,300 misdemeanor domestic violence cases, compared with only 1,327 felonies.
The Victim’s Role
Whether a victim taunts or strikes first doesn’t get the attacker off the hook. “The question is whether the attacker used unreasonable force when defending him or herself,” says L.A. criminal defense attorney Susan Haber.
And even if the victim wants the case to go away, that would not affect whether a suspect is charged or the severity of the criminal counts. “It’s very common for domestic violence victims to be uncooperative,” Haber says. “They may forgive their significant other, blame themselves for having an argument, and want to forget the fight ever happened.”
She adds: “If the victim’s initial statements corroborate their injuries, that can be enough to file a case.”

This is why I object so strongly to the “Strong Black Woman” label that some of us place on ourselves, which I think strips us of some of our feminine qualities. I believe in the traditional roles of the man as protector and the woman as nurturer. When we paint black women as aggressors, we, in turn, take away or diminish their womanly qualities.

If they can argue that a sneaker is a weapon in the Jena 6 case one can certainly argue that a cell phone is a weapon. Once a person decides to use the cell phone as a throwing device or to hit someone else over the head with it, it is no longer just a cell phone. Secondly, in a car as small as a Lamborghini, when someone is hurling a phone at your head (which could very easily hit you in the eye) and striking you about the face while you are trying to drive in the dark at night, I think self-defense is not a stretch.

My brother got a beat down from his wife all the time. He is a big man. She did it because she knew that if she called the police that he would get the worst of it.
It’s widely known that Rhianna is a very abusive person. She is verbally abusive to her own staff. It has been said that she has been verbally and physically abusive to Chris.

Bossip needs to quit already. Bossip has focused on this story more than anyone else mostly being negative towards Chris Brown. And while it was wrong for him to hit her and vice versus you have failed to focus on the beast behind this story which is domestic violence and the continuation of it. Chris himself has acknowledged in the media on more than one occasion that he witnessed his mom get beat up by his step dad from ages 7 – 13, and how he would pee in the bed because he was afraid to go to the bathroom during that time; 3 years later he has a record deal. A male child that witnesses domestic abuse is 4 times more likely to go on an be an abuser himself whether he vows to or not.
Chris has stated that he hates his step-dad to this day for what he did to his mother and it is likely that he has become the very thing that he hates. And it is possible that something triggered his behavior that evening with Rhianna but it is also possible that he exhibited signs before this incident, and while he knows right from wrong and shouldn’t have done it; he probably needs some professional help and his mother does too. They could turn this negative into a positive. If he does not get help which he has to opportunity to do so, unlike other children in our community that see their mothers get beat, the cycle of domestic violence will likely continue in future relationships. If he refuses help and does not make a conscience effort to change this type of behavior then ralley against him. At least give him the opportunity to correct this behavior.
Rhianna could use some help from being victim of domestic violence, and watching her father battle with a crack addiction during her child hood. We can take issues from our parental relationships into our own relationships. They both need help.

Speaking for myself, if I had a son, I would advise him not to be involved in the type of abusive relationship you described. Some of this takes a proactive, common sense approach. Also, if a confrontation occurs, there are ways to address that situation, such as leaving the scene, calling the proper authorities, etc., that do not involve physical contact.
What I absolutely would NOT advise him to do is to lower himself to a tit-for-tat situation, and lashing out physically is inappropriate and unacceptable. That type of advice — which appears to be occurring in a number of households — will undoubtedly lead to further issues, including the legal kind, IMHO.

i find it interesting that abuse extends to hitting someone back when they hit you first, even if you neutralize the threat and walk away. societal training must now extend to teaching men how to better dodge and take more punches, or how to more creatively escape angry a$$ adult females who turn violent. that’s fine, but it poses a serious threat to females themselves because there is NO deterrent for a woman who decides to go violent, so why on earth should she stop until he reacts?
i have no idea as to why ANYONE needs to touch ANYONE, let alone expect that person to allow it. what on earth would a female intend to accomplish by putting her hands on a man? it is unacceptable, and largely ignored because no one even expects it to happen. but this is a new day, and new legislation needs to take into account that some women are just as comfortable using violence to express themselves as some men are. if the law could act as a real deterrent, maybe we could protect some of these women and men from themselves, because a man could seriously injure a woman in the act of self-defense.
Chris will certainly suffer more before this is over, but I hope that he does so in the court of public opinion, and not in a jail cell. Of course I would go to war if my sister were the victim of abuse. But it’s deeper than the cheap afterschool special bs people keep regurgitating. I know that my sisters are ladies before anything else, and will walk away from a man before losing their dignity. My sisters would NEVER give a man the satisfaction of knowing that he was important enough to make them lose their composure in that way. So to answer your question, while I believe that any woman could find herself the victim of domestic abuse, i would feel pretty comfortable seeking revenge if my sister got touched up, because my sisters never use violence. They are more powerful than that.
The time to walk away was when she realized that he was entertaining another woman(via text or whatever) in her presence. To ignore this fact, then say that he could have walked away while she was attacking him is rather hypocritical imho.

Speaking for myself, if I had a son, I would advise him not to be involved in the type of abusive relationship you described. Some of this takes a proactive, common sense approach. Also, if a confrontation occurs, there are ways to address that situation, such as leaving the scene, calling the proper authorities, etc., that do not involve physical contact.
What I absolutely would NOT advise him to do is to lower himself to a tit-for-tat situation, and lashing out physically is inappropriate and unacceptable. That type of advice — which appears to be occurring in a number of households — will undoubtedly lead to further issues, including the legal kind, IMHO.

I believe most of her bruises especially the ones on the forehead and eyes came from when Chris slammed the breaks.I also believe that Rihanna was manipulative when she pretended to be phoning the police as her and Chris continued to argue.There is more to this story and the police knows there is something not quite right.
I believe that Rihanna lied when she gave her initial statement which should have been under oath and if this is true, she could be charged for perjury and it would also weaken the case even more because of inconsistencies which is why I believe The DA is hesitating….

Now you’ve made it out the door and ya trying to leave and the heffa is infront of your car daring you to hit her and all the while she’s tearing of ya antenna or mirror. So all of this shyt about walking away is easier said than done in some cases and I’m sure all of you know women like that. And for all of you ladies who have a young son I wonder how you’d feel if you had to get your son out of jail because he finally got mad and hit that girlfriend of his that you know been puttin hands on him…….how mad would you really be if it happened, or would you defend him?. Oh I’m sure you’d be the first one in court saying lock his azz up because theres no reason to ever put your hands on a woman, oh I seriously doubt that would happen yanno because thats your son and somehow that makes it different. I applaud strong women and I feel equality is a god given right so be it. I have a daughter and granddaughters, sisters and neices and have their backs 100% percent but have always told them never hit least you expect to get hit back. Women can’t sue to for their daughters to play on the boys varsity football, wrestling, baseball and hockey teams claiming that to not allow them to do so is discriminatory, that they are just as physically tough and should be treated like one of the boys…Oh and then be shocked when shocked when young men treat them as equals and hit them back….then its ” she’s a girl and she’s weaker than boys” so don’t lay the blame at prior abuse or what they’ve seen, be careful of the messages some women send and how it plays into what young men and young women think is okay. In as far as I’m concerned and my wife understands……we can agree to disagree, but if you put ya hands on me I’ll give you a backhand that’ll park ya azz like a cadillac………..

Chris Brown made a mistake, and so did Rihanna. He was wrong to hit her, and she was wrong to hit him. I say, let the guy get his 11-29 probation-diversion, and get him get his career on track…and let Rihanna do the same.
I’m sure that even if Chris is not going to be back with Rihanna, he has learned a strong lesson to make better decisions. Maybe Rihanna has too. I wish them the best.

First of an abuser is someone who continually abuses a person, and not someone who gets into a fight in the heat of the moment. What I think most of us are saying is give him the benefit of the doubt. He is young and not that experience in relationship yes he was wrong and yes she was wrong. Two wrong don’t make a right. I see everyone is putting a lot of pressure on both parties.
