Beyonce Talks Releasing New Album With No Promotion
Just when it seemed inevitable that no new album would come out of the Beysus empire before 2013 came to a close, Mrs. Carter shocked fans with a surprise midnight visual album release.
Keeping with the theme of late night, secret-squirrel revelations, Bey also spoke out on where she is musically and why she kept her latest lyrical venture under wraps.
On doing a visual album:
I see music. It’s more than just what I hear.
When I’m connected to something, I immediately see a visual or a series of images that are tied to a feeling or an emotion. A memory from my childhood, thoughts about life, my dreams or my fantasies. And they’re all connected to the music. And I think it’s one of the reasons why I wanted to do a visual album.
On what she wanted fans to gain from the visual album:
I wanted people to hear the songs with the story that’s in my head…’cause it’s what makes it mine.
She also revealed the reason why she kept the album rollout a secret and even included behind-the-scenes footage of hubby Hov on set along with a candid video of beach time with Blue Ivy. Check that out, along with the rest of what she had to say, on page 2.
On the difference between music then and now:
I felt like right now, people experience music differently.
I remember seeing Thriller on TV with my family. It was an event. We all sat around the TV and now looking back, I’m so lucky I was born around that time. I miss that emmersive experience.
Now, people only listen to a few seconds of a song on their ipods. They don’t really invest in a whole album. It’s all about the single and the hype. It’s so much that gets between the music and the artist and the fans.
On why she kept the album release a secret:
I felt like, I don’t want anybody [else] to give the message of when my record is coming out. I just want this to come out when it’s ready….and from me, to my fans
