Mannie Fresh’s Sister Murdered

Posted by Bossip Staff

Mannie Fresh Angela Bryant

Mannie Fresh’s sister, Angela Bryant, was murdered in her home Wednesday night:

A 42-year-old mother of two young children was shot and killed late Wednesday night in her Algiers home while her kids were there. The children were not physically harmed, according to police. Police said Bryant’s husband was out of town when she was killed, but he arrived at the scene before noon and was visibly upset. Carrie St. Cyr, the mother of the victim, told Eyewitness News Reporter Jill Hezeau that Bryant just got married in October. She said Wednesday was her birthday and the family had gone out to dinner to celebrate.

IN BOTH CASES THERE WERE CHILDREN IN THE HOUSE BUT LEFT UNHARMED. SOMTHING IS NOT RIGHT IN THESE CASES. ITS AS IF THERE ARE PEOPLE HATING SO HARD TO SEE OTHERS WITH SOMETHING THAT THEY WANT TO END THEIR LIVES…SMH AT THE VIOLENCE OF TODAY. LITTLE GIRLS BEING MURDERED BY THEIR PARENTS AND STUFFED INTO CONTAINERS, COLLEGE STUDENTS MISSING AND BEING MURDERED….PEOPLE, PLEASE BE CAREFUL OUT THERE!!!

  17. What a horrible story. Why people remain in New Orleans is beyond me. I think they should shut the city down and use it as a big ole prison where people are free to kill and rape each other all they want. Those niccas are straight up savages. Yeah I said it.

I like that BKKK. I’m gonna use that.

It’s funny you should say that. I am a Louisianian and I recently took La history for an elective and learned that when the frech first came her part of their contract was to populate the place and they took prisoners from other countries and brought them to New Orleans. No lie. They took homeless people, prostitues, killers, theives, you name it. That’s why N.O’s crime rate has always been so high. It was intentionally populated with the bad element.

And… I’m from NOLA and that’s bullsh*t. NOLA was a great place to live until all these young baby mommas started having children they are too young and ignant to raise and all the daddies were getting killed before their kids were out of preschool. It’s OUR FOLKS that are killing one another and the french ain’t have a damn thing to do with it. The juvenile situation in NOLA is off the chain. All the 20-something black males are already murdered, leaving the teens to get murdered next; and they are killing left and right until they are killed themselves. Meanwhile, all the lil children are fatherless through death and basically motherless and grandmotherless through straight ignorance. And if yall think this is just a problem in NOLA, yall need to take yall heads outta yall *sses because this is a nationwide problem.

I already posted above about my new term for black folks who kill other black folks…BKKK. I’m not talking about the condition of N.O now I’m talking about how NO got to where it is now from the people who came here in the 1800s.

  35. AND...

    @Vee

See I’m trying to hold back but I about to drop some facts on people. Somebdoy said yesterday that the US is trying to get rid of black folks. I disagreed b/c I believe that the majority of people are good but maybe I have been naive.

    1. The disproportionate number of black babies exterminated by the abortion industry in America.

Although black women constitute only 6% of the population, they comprise 36% of the abortion industry’s clientele. The leading abortion providers have chosen to exploit blacks by locating 94% of their abortuaries in urban neighborhoods with high black populations.

This high rate of abortion has decimated the black family and destroyed black neighborhoods to the detriment of society at large

2.In America today, almost as many African-American children

    are aborted as are born.

A black baby is three times more likely to be

murdered in the womb than a white baby.

Since 1973, abortion has reduced the black population by over 25 percent.

Twice as many African-Americans have died from abortion than have died from

AIDS, accidents, violent crimes, cancer, and heart disease combined.

Every three days, more African-Americans are killed by abortion thanhave been killed by the Ku Klux Klan in its entire history.Planned Parenthood operates the nation’s largest chain of abortion clinics andalmost 80 percent of its facilities are located in minority neighborhoods. About 13 percent of American women are black, but theysubmit to over 35 percent of the abortions.

What the Ku Klux Klan Could Only Dream About

    The Abortion Industry is Accomplishing

Those figures are alarming, but they need to be verified. However, no one is forcing black women to have abortions. Here’s how I see it, if you’re too immature to raise a child, whether because of age or maturity level you shouldn’t, that’s the best thing you could do for a child. A condom is alot cheaper than a child.

It seems as if no one’s concerned with AIDS or other STDs anymore. In high school I saw it all the time, young girls are putting themselves at enormous risk by letting these dudes hit it raw.

    ****************************************************

Damn, that’s deep. No wonder there are so many problems there. Sure there are problems everywhere, but NO has been off the chain for a while. Corruption has eroded the city much like Detroit. So there are criminals at all levels there.

As for abortion, I’m more concerned with the fact that nearly 70% of black children are born to single parent households. We’ve got some major issues going on in our communities and I’m praying that we realize that selling our sole to the devil for a few dollars on a wide scale is only going to make it worse.

  48. Free

Vee, it will never get out of hand; it’s not that type of conversation. I reject the fact that NOLA never recovered from its inception. That is something the media puts out and shows endlessly about NOLA–the “debauchery”–when in fact it wasn’t the only place populated with outlaws and prostitutes.

Whenever you read about NOLA they tend to talk about all of this debauchery but they never talk about how crucial the city is to the overall economy in terms of the ports and oil and the (working and productive) people that make that happen. Therefore, we are only known for showing our tits.

The blacks were mostly slaves and more highly educated and trained than other slaves in the region; they weren’t even into that type of sh*t. That was Europeans. So, by that line of reasoning, it should be the whites in NOLA that are off the chain now.

NOLA was a wonderful place to live and raise children and was no more violent than any other urban city until the 90s, which is quite recent in the history of Louisiana and the United States. Many educated and successful people came out of NOLA; they have chosen to leave en masse due to the economic situation. When you look at other cities with the same concentration of blacks, you see the same trend and they, I suppose, were more civilized at their inception.

The police are a bit more lenient in our city (and that probably goes back to its history) but they kept things in check back in the day because they used to beat *sses. Now we have a different type of criminal element and more scrutiny on police.

Basically, NOLA has it’s problems but these problems are modern day (in the scheme of things).

But it can make Ur heart a little heavy.

  51. geezy

    ^AND

I don’t think getting abortions is the problem….The problem is most of these niccas need to have been aborted….Most black men are not around to raise their children….Most of the crime is black on black crime.

  52. Free

You are fighting for your city and I understand your loyalty, but it is what it is. Hurricaine Katrina evacuees are reaking havoc everywheret they’ve gone in large numbers. Ask any Houstonian and they will tell you they feel like a city under siege. Sure NO was devastated by the crack epidemic just as all major cities were, but the fact remains that they stay in that top 5 list for murder rates. There is a problem there, just like Detroit.

  53. This whole running up in folks’ homes and killin them really is crazy…I mean what the hell is really going on?

  54. Free

Bird, I was just commenting on the historical aspect that And… brought up. I don’t believe this problem dates back to the French. I do believe (like I stated in the original post) that NOLA has a problem though. I made have veered off though. Go Saints!

  55. Ms. Dee (#21 Fan Forever!!!)

This is absolutely ridiculous. I am so sick of hearing about folks dying unnecessarily, all because of senseless violence. I’m beyond sadness at the state of our world. My condelences to the family, and I pray for her children. (And I truly hope the husband had nothing to do with it… sorry to open that can of worms, but in this day and time you never know…)

  56. Vee

    Free -

I say that because I lived there and walked the streets – as a native and as a public health student and professional.

    And -

I can agree with. Blacks will be over-represented in statistics because we use more state & government financial & healthcare programs, that’s a known fact. The numbers will always be disproportionate and alarming.

The facts before and after the hurricane are not showing recovery. By saying never, it may have been a bit grand…still I’m speaking from a person that has done focus groups, community service and worked in a doctors office. This wasn’t information filtered by the masses, I got hands on info. When people don’t acknowledge a problem that’s when it worsens.

I met 3-4 genererations of women that lived in housing projects and had no desire to move out. I would not believe it if I had not been there. I met a young woman dressed down to the 9’s, she never had a car, her mother nor grandmother never had a car and that’s all she wanted…was a car and not to mover out of the projects, but her own to herself.

Some of these women thought you had to have good credit to get a bank account.

*Trust me, I’ve seen worse in redneck country. Way worse. We are just exploited more.

Yes, I agree with what you say about our culture being “infected” by European culture, but it’s more obvious in a city that’s smaller.

Still – I stand firmly that I see it getting worse before it gets better.

  57. Destiny

Before I even read it, I thought that was Mannie dressed up as a woman! Crazy! They look just alike! My gosh that is soooooo sad!

Gahhh lee man…I’m gettin so sick of all this mess…I pray for her family, ESPECIALLY those babies.

  59. AND...

    @geezy

I hear you. I think there are more pressing issues as well but when I step back and look at it and it’s like playing “battle ship” these people have a strategy and they are executing it perfectly. They have a way to stick it to us in every facet. Killing the ones alive with guns, drugs, incarceration, etc and if by some reason they miss us there, they are getting us before we even take our first breath.

    @vee

I didn’t realize there were some like that. You should have been in here yesterday when nahnah was jumping all over me b/c I thought that people wanted to get out of that situation but I guess not all do.

  60. mz choclat

    @AND…

I agree with you totally on the facts and the part that WE are killing ourselves at a rate the KKK could only dream about. If we are not killing ourselves doping ourselves up, then we are doing it through abortions and senseless killings…the ones over card games, dominoes, a $5 bebt, a funny look, jealousy, envy, drug turf (knowing damn well they don’t own the deed to any block or street)and just because. And for the life of me, I don’t understand these boyfriends killing their girlfriends and then leading the police to the body. (missing JSU student whose body was found yesterday & a Texas A&M student whose body was found March 2007) What in the hell are we becoming? It’s almost as if we have lost the value/worth of life that we so vehemently fought/marched/protested for when our Black men were being lynched.

Umph…now we are in essence lynching ourseleves and the hopes and dreams alike.

I’m from N.O. and a lot of the crime pre & post Katrina is NOT random. There were and are very few innocent bystanders and random killings. Don’t get me wrong, N.O. has its crime problems just as any populated African-American city does, but it is not indigenous to N.O. – it is running rampant everywhere.

So if you say shut N.O down and make it a prison and leave the criminal element there to fight, kill and rape amongst themselves, then why not say the same about Detroit, St. Louis, Flint, Oakland, or Camden beacuse those are the top 5 most dangerous cities according to recent reports. N.O. was ranked #65. Trust me, N.O. will rise again but probably not in the way that would satiate most of the African-American community. N.O. will become a high-end tourist city. Donald Trump has already made plans to build high-rise condos in N.O costing from $500,000 to $2mil. And some of those are already spoken for! The city council which was once comprised of at least 50% Afr Amer is well on its way to being obselete of Afr Amer representation. It really is a sad situation but the handwriting was on the wall in Aug 2005 when many were left behind for days. The powers that be probably figured why would anybody want to return to a place where they were left to succumb as animals…but for many, N.O. will always be home and that is the only place they want to be.

But back to the real issue at hand, my deepest sympathy goes out to Angela’s family and most of all her children and husband. I pray that those guilty of robbing those 2 babies from growing up with their mother will be found, caught, convicted, and left to rot in jail for the rest of their life.

  61. Vee

It’s 50/50, some do want to get out – some don’t. I had to take a 5 minute and a walk around the block. I mean the things these young ladies were going through. One was 16 with dating a 31 year old. “He say I’m gon be fine when I get older and he love me cuz I aint got no kids.” Still his ass had more than 5. One young lady kept getting an STD from her boyfriend…hence now clinics will give meds to women to give to their spouse due to high re-infection rates and men are less likely to get treatment than women. Still, he tells her he loves her. I seen this ish – madness. I spoke with one that sleeps with a guy that she knows sleeps with a young lady that lives in her project that is infected with herpes. She said everybody know everything in her project. The young ladies flare ups were so bad she couldn’t walk (still getting no treatment). The young lady responded as to why she still deals with him “I never had a bump on me.” One of the young ladies…harmless looking smiled while we were talking and flipped a razor blade out of her mouth like a damned Jolly Rancher…no words. I just know and hope the people I spoke with – I impacted and they know they can do better.

I don’t believe you should practice plaigerism unless you give credit to the person who coined that term BKKK. Anyone who has been on the internet all week knows that columnist Jason Whitlock of Fox Sports news (accessed from MSN) used that term in an article Tuesday/Wednesday about the Taylor kid who played for the Redskins. Get off his jock, and also stop assuming a black person was responsible for this woman’s death! Unless you are a detective don’t spread rumors until you have the facts

  64. My Sincerest sympathy to Mannie and his family!!

  65. Vee

    And…

Damn huh? Try sitting there talking to these not women, but young women dealing with this. When asked what did they feel like they needed to help them do better or to get out of their situations they said “Help, education, or just to know better.”

One of the young ladies was confident enough to say she didn’t know any better so she just did what she saw or everybody else did.

So for people who think it’s getting better…they need to stop and wonder where all of those people are now.

  68. Alter Ego

This is sad beyond belief. I could not imagine the loss of my two sisters. I really am praying for the family.

Now as to address some of the comments that have been made so far about my home city New Orleans, how can we as a people be so ignorant. I have been born and raised in this city that I hold dear to me so it is hard for me to read people saying things such as it should be made into a jail or that it is the way it is because of who originally inhabited this city. That is foolishness. The majority of major Metropolitan areas have their problem. Ours currently is crime which was a problem in the past but if you look at the history, our crime rate had fallen. It is funny that our own people continue to blame evacuees for the problems in their home towns because they definately did not have crime before the evacuees arrived. Really though, has crime really surged that much or is it just being potrayed that way because of the media whom are running out of interesting stories. Lets think about it. Our city has long been a place for all of you to party. You come down and do your dirt for Bayou Classic, Essence Fest and Mardi Gras and then you leave. So you don’t know anything about it here. You don’t focus on the fact that we have or had only one Fortune 500 company here or that our economy sucks and as a result our education system might as well be no existent. All you care about is the party that you come to. You don’t care about the fact that people in this city have been strategically crippled due to this poor economy and the lackluster education system. I say strategically because, if you think about it, this city was built to thrive off of tourism. If we had a world class education system in this great city, who would be the ones cleaning up after you and your party or serving your food. We are so quick to shake our heads at whats going on here but lets look at the bigger picture. We still are fighting the federal government for recovery money because the levees THEY built to protect this MAJOR PORT CITY FAILED. Meanwhile Mississippi which suffered less devastation has money flowing in. In an earlier comment I read about someone knowing of generations of families living in the Housing developments. I know of a lot of people liek that. People who have been products of this education system which the State and Federal Government seem to ignore. This city has long been crippled, not by its residents, but by its Federal government which is allowing all of this to take place to keep the economy crippled here so that we can keep thinking that a good job is the one at the hotel, Superdome or Convention Center so that we can keep serving your food or keep cleaning up ya’ll trifling ass messes when u come for these random events. Don’t be so quick to condemn my home town because of what you see potrayed in the media because what u see on tv is only half the truth. And the levees were strategically broken.

i kinda feel you on the issue that some girls/women don’t need to have babies but i dread considering abortion as an option.

like you said, a condom is much cheaper and prevents HIV and other STDs. our young people just don’t seem to understand it only takes one time to have unprotected sex to get HIV. of the recent reported HIV cases, 70% of those are Afr Amer teenagers. my Lord, that combined with the black on black crime and drug usage, it almost makes me ponder the fact that there is a black genocide staring us in the face.

    RIP Nenie…you are deeply missed!

First let me say I understand your loyalty to the place you live and grew up in. Secondly, you don’t have to like the history of NO but it doesn’t change anything. I never stated (nor did anyone else) that NO was the only place with these types of problems. We all know better. I was simply shocked when I learned these things. People want to make it seem like the black folks ruined NO when in fact it never had a good start b/c it was inhabited by criminals. No disrespect.

God, I pray for them…so many stars are suffering losses lately…we all know that this is unfortunately an everyday thing in the general population. :( We really need to bring the unity that we had in the civil rights era back…we’re still in the struggle and we need each other…

  78. Vee

Your killing me over here. You really are. It’s stories like those that make me want to cry. I mentor young black girls in an effort to combat that very problem, but man its a drop in the bucket.

    Reesey

I already said I was biting the term. What’s your damn problem? It turns out I heard the term first from a MySpace friend who wrote a blog on it, but I forgot. Why argue over symantics?

So if you say shut N.O down and make it a prison and leave the criminal element there to fight, kill and rape amongst themselves, then why not say the same about Detroit, St. Louis, Flint, Oakland, or Camden beacuse those are the top 5 most dangerous cities according to recent reports. N.O. was ranked #65.

    ***************************************************

I don’t know where you saw that #65 when I’m not sure there are 65 major cities in the US, but if you did see it you should have known it was not the truth with all the murder in the streets of NOLA. The 2006 murder rankings of US cities with populations over 250,000 is as follows:

    1. Detroit, MI

    2. Baltimore, MD

    3. New Orleans, LA

    4. Newark, NJ

    5. St. Louis, MO

    6. Oakland, CA

    7. Washington, DC

    8. Philadelphia, PA

    9. Buffalo, NY

    10. Kansas City, MO

  79. Vee

I feel you – there are a many days I left in the car – no radio – just quiet driving home. I’m not gonna lie – I shed a tear or two. Until you meet someone in that position you’ll be angry, blaming – then when you meet a few it’s like “Damn, they really don’t know any better.”

Yes, there are some bad ones – still, they are pulling the rest down with them.

  80. M-DADDY OAKLANDS FINEST

This is a very sad thing. I’m from Oakland as my name states. I used to be in the streets 24-7 now I talk to kids thats out there doing worst things then I use to do. When I was younger we fought like men now these cats cant put the gun diow. As black people we have to wake up. We are definately becoming extinct.

  81. Vee

I used to spend my summers in Oakland. I saw more than I expected…way more. The area my aunt lived in began to go down and she had to get up out. Congrats on being a mentor. People don’t know how much they can impact a life by talking and taking that time. Even if it is one person – it filters down.

  82. Constance

@ BB I agree with you people should be worried about AIDS. Yes you can abort that baby but you cannot abort AIDS! If someone got you pregnant thay can give you aids.

Pray for the family of that your lady especially the Kids. RIP

yea that is sad NewOrleans is nothin but poverty, but i still love my city and aint no place like it,i seen so much my 22yrs livin down their but i can never see myself leavin sorry for mannies sister r.i.p. 2much killin…All the mexicans takin all the jobs in neworleans so black people have nothin else to do but rob and kill…They left NewOrleans for dead people need money so the crime will continue to rise no matter wat!!!!!!!!!!

  84. “All the mexicans takin all the jobs in neworleans so black people have nothin else to do but rob and kill…”

…WOW, if you believe that, that’s SAD!! I don’t live in NO, so I can’t empathize with you…

I’m sorry you feel that way, but that’s soooo NOT TRUE! you don’t have to be a victim of your environment…

    @Vee

What area did your aunt live in?

  86. adifferentpath

@Alter Ego, mz choclat,Free and AND – wow. I do believe we are participating in MANY ways in a genocide. Yup, participating – killing ourselves and each other. Those stats are staggering on abortion yet a note should always be made on stats as to give info on where/how they were collected. If social services were collecting those stats using voluntary means (with some incentives given to participants) you’re disporportionatly (sp?) going to get results from Planned Parenthood and other free clinics that are servicing women of color. We’re not getting results from (access)top maternity wards, (access) award-winning hospitals with the latest in pre and post-natal care. Another thing to note about our participation is education and access. A condom is cheaper than HIV medication, STD treatments, etc. but guess what some people(who’s having sex with who) think is cheaper than a condom? nothing.

I feel you. There is no simple answer. I take that back there is. People have to decide to do and want better.

    @Vee

I sympathize with those people you help but a part of me can’t truly believe that they don’t know any better.

  89. Vee

    And…

Those were my sentiments initially and I can see how you can think that, I had to step outside of myself for a second and realize facts, not based on paper, but what I saw and who I met:

    1. Some of them have never been out of New Orleans.

    2. Live in households w/o cable.

    3. Are past a 3rd generation of living in the projects.

    4. Do not – will not go to the doctor unless they are pregnant.

    5. When speaking about sex, became confused when I used the terms “Vaginal and/or anal”

    6. Know more about clothes and music than sex or health.

    7. Are in a family with no college, let alone high school degrees.

    8. The only legitimate monetary income is SSI that may be from an elderly family member or disability from another.

    9. When asked where they were from would name a ward, project, or area rather than the city and wrote in on paper.

    10. I could probably go to 20, but I won’t.

Many of them knew a little better, sadly their environment didn’t allow them to do better. They weren’t totally oblivious to what a better life was, still their priorities were day to day – not long term.

  90. Vee

    And…

I won’t tell you how I called myself getting braids (by referral). First and last time, 1 because it hurt, 2 because I’m traumatized.

I went to the young ladies house, all was quiet – her, her grandmother and 2 kids were there…and a few roaches.

Long story short I paid her $80.00.

As the morning progressed more people began to come into the house – I guess this was the main house and people began to float in from the night before.

Before I know it the house is filled with people laying all around and somebody pinches a $20 from her.

Her mother, father, cousins & aunt all of a sudden begin to beg her for money.

All these grown ass people – no jobs, just food stamps, even the men had food stamps.

She tells them “Ya’ll know I give grandma money when I braid and I want to get a tatoo.”

Hence the missing $20 drama starts, she thinks it was her mother or father (both crackheads who aren’t together). She asked her mother, mother curses her out and tells her she wish she would have stole it and that’s what she gets for not giving it to her to begin with.

Asked the dad, he replies what I want your money for I just got my food stamps and I’m selling them later on.

Crackhead friend of family shows up with bag – she movin in too. In addition, see ol girl braiding and asked her for some money.

Saga continues…I’m getting my ish ready to leave. 2 people have asked me for money. Then my friend is doing the periodic phone calls.

The dad going off to sell the food stamps, everybody hungry and begging her for money. Still they mad at her, not him.

Crackhead 20ish cousin comes in – “I see you making that paper – tighten me up.” Gives him the grandmother story.

Long story short…I remember it like yesterday all I know is Charlene starts to blast out of another room, she asks me “You smell that?” I say “Smell what?” She says “That’s crack, they in there smoking crack with my money.”

WTF?! I don’t know what crack smell like and she shouldn’t either.

I jet and leave that piece smoking then one of her uncles follow me and ask me for a ride – hell nah. I gave her $20.00 more dollars, bought her grandmother some food and scratched off.

Those damned braids did not get done, I left looking like D’Angelo coming out of jail…I was not mad.

I had a boiling hot bath and 2 crowns easy on the coke when I got home – hand shaking.

  91. AND...

    @Vee

This is bugging me out. At the same time though they are making chooses. They don’t have to be like that. Mind you I understand b/c my story is too far off but you have to fight for what you want in life and if they knew like I know the devil in hell can’t make me give up. This is truly indeed but no more tragic than what’s happening to our people being murdered like this everyday. Sometimes, twice a day. It’s just that they are famous or related to famous people that they got the attention and it seems so surreal and hurtful.

But the truth is, some family member probably lost their family member to murder last night. And we don’t even know it. And that’s the truth.

on a semi-related note, i suggest everyone take a visit down to the N.O.; that place looks like a 3rd world country almost; the FEMA trailers are posted up right in front of the vacant homes in the front yard. the entire new orleans east, 9th ward all of that look baddd… you still see a gang of houses with the neon markings on them from when the people were searching for dead bodies etc…

it is really eerie man, straight up! and oddly enough, every billboard in the city is being used for politicians running for office, literally! I mean every single billboard has a face plastered on it with a big cheesy smile talking about how they gone change the city…

it was a reality check for real…living in Houston, I have talked to many people who used to live there and now I see exactly why most of them have said they will NEVER GO BACK TO NEW ORLEANS!

  121. @Bird (Nov. 30, 12:41pm)

I don’t know where you saw that #65 when I’m not sure there are 65 major cities in the US, but if you did see it you should have known it was not the truth with all the murder in the streets of NOLA. The 2006 murder rankings of US cities with populations over 250,000 is as follows:

    1. Detroit, MI

    2. Baltimore, MD

    3. New Orleans, LA

    4. Newark, NJ

    5. St. Louis, MO

    6. Oakland, CA

    7. Washington, DC

    8. Philadelphia, PA

    9. Buffalo, NY

    10. Kansas City, MO

    ***************************************************

Bird, with the utmost of respect:

    1) The US Census Bureau defines a major city as one with a population of at least 100,000. So based on their definition, there are 251 major cities.

2)My initial statement was not based on the 2006 murder rankings. It was based on the recent report of the most dangerous cities which is based on cities with poulations of more than 75,000 and stats on violent acts of murder, rape, robbery, assault, burglary and auto theft. However, the 2006 murder rankings were based on cities with populations of over 250,000 and their homicide stats only. I just question the accuracy of this report because according to the US Census Bureau, the 2006 population was estimated at 223,388. So, whose/what population figures were used for the 2006 murder ranking?

Yes, I do love N.O. because it is where I was born and grew up. However, my love for the city does not overshadow the fact of me knowing that N.O. has its share of violent criminals. I understand that. The issue I have is that the problem is only being talked about. Everyone knows what is going on in N.O. and in other cities but there is nothing being done about it. Sure, city council meetings take place all the time to discuss the plight but what is the real plan to diffuse the criminal wave that has taken over N.O. and other cities alike? NONE.

Part of me wants to believe that if this type of violence was running amuck in non-black affluent cities, it would be dealt with swiftly and harshly. But since it is a problem of black communities, it is not a major concern…let them kill themselves off one by one. But I hate playing the race card because it is us killing us. We are our worst enemy…and all the while there are generations that will grow up without their mother or father due to an act of violence, whether it be as victim or perpetrator.

    @ AlterEgo

“Our city has long been a place for all of you to party. You come down and do your dirt for Bayou Classic, Essence Fest and Mardi Gras and then you leave.

You don’t care about the fact that people in this city have been strategically crippled due to this poor economy and the lackluster education system.”

It can’t be said any better than that. You wrapped it up perfectly.

    @Free, Vee, AlterEgo, Bird, AND

although we are not in total agreement with each other, it appears that we are some intelligent individuals that could work together on issues that are plaguing our community…hell, maybe we should run for the N.O. city council and clean it up! (LOL) But on a serious note, I love it when black people can come together and discuss issues and even agree to disagree without all the name-calling and smart azz remarks. Much love to each of you!
