I agree. I like talking about important stuff with ppl without all the name calling. I also like that ppl can learn to disagree w/o feeling attacked or like their opinion is not valid. I just want to know what other ppl are thinking/feeling about issues going on. Together we stand, divided we fail.

I just question the accuracy of this report because according to the US Census Bureau, the 2006 NEW ORLEANS population was estimated at 223,388. So, whose/what population figures were used for the 2006 murder ranking?

I don’t know where you saw that #65 when I’m not sure there are 65 major cities in the US, but if you did see it you should have known it was not the truth with all the murder in the streets of NOLA. The 2006 murder rankings of US cities with populations over 250,000 is as follows:

1) The US Census Bureau defines a major city as one with a population of at least 100,000. So based on their definition, there are 251 major cities.

2)My initial statement was not based on the 2006 murder rankings. It was based on the recent report of the most dangerous cities which is based on cities with poulations of more than 75,000 and stats on violent acts of murder, rape, robbery, *****ault, burglary and auto theft. Yes, I do love N.O. because it is where I was born and grew up. However, my love for the city does not overshadow the fact of me knowing that N.O. has its share of violent criminals. I understand that. The issue I have is that the problem is only being talked about. Everyone knows what is going on in N.O. and in other cities but there is nothing being done about it. Sure, city council meetings take place all the time to discuss the plight but what is the real plan to diffuse the criminal wave that has taken over N.O. and other cities alike? NONE.

Part of me wants to believe that if this type of violence was running amuck in non-black affluent cities, it would be dealt with swiftly and harshly. But since it is a problem of black communities, it is not a major concern…let them kill themselves off one by one. But I hate playing the race card because it is us killing us. We are our worst enemy…and all the while there are generations that will grow up without their mother or father due to an act of violence, whether it be as victim or perpetrator.
