Chicago police have locked up the teen father of the baby who was saved after her mother was shot in the head on Christmas charging him and his drug dealing brothers for the death of her mom.
According to NY Daily News reports:
The pregnant teen felled by a bullet to the back of her head on Christmas day was shot by her 16-year-old boyfriend and his two brothers during a botched drug deal, authorities said.
Eva Casara, 17 — whose baby girl survived and remained in critical condition Monday — was not the intended target, but was accidentally shot when the drug deal spiraled out of control, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.
The mother-to-be was “just in the wrong place at the wrong time with the wrong company,” Dolton Police Chief John Franklin told the newspaper.
Investigators arrested the victim’s boyfriend, 16-year-old Anthony Lee — who is the father of Casara’s daughter — and his brother, Diante Coakley, 21.
Both were ordered held without bail after they were arraigned on first-degree murder charges Sunday.
Police said they are still looking for a third brother who allegedly took part in the fatal shooting.
Casara, who was between 22 and 25 weeks pregnant, was with the brothers when they arranged to meet someone at 152nd and Dorchester streets in Dolton, WLS-TV reported.
Investigators believe Casara and Coakley got into the car before an argument erupted. Coakley stepped out, but went around the vehicle and tried to open the driver’s side door, according to the news station.
The driver suddenly peeled away and Lee and his brothers opened fire, not realizing that Casara was still in the backseat, prosecutors said.
The driver and his passenger soon spotted the wounded teen and allegedly dumped her body between two apartment buildings nearby. Police have said they believe Casara was lying on the cold ground for up to 40 minutes before emergency workers were called to the scene.
“I don’t believe at all she knew what was going on,” the teen’s aunt, Melody Vargas, told the news station.
Doctors managed to save the unborn baby, who was named “Baby Doe” as she continues to fight for her life at a nearby hospital.
The family plans to name the child Lailani Paris Casara — the name her mother chose before she died — when her condition improves.
SMH. This is a damn shame. All these young lives gone to waste. We’re praying for that baby and the family of the victim.
Make sure you tell your daughters to be careful chasing these young dope boys because this could happen all too easily to anybody!
