According to Mark Curry: Once I realized how badly Mary J. Blige, Jodeci, Biggie and The Lox had been stiffed, I began worrying about my own publishing career. Puff was afraid to mess with Faith because Biggie's fans would have killed him, but other artists discovered their careers would go nowhere as along as they were signed to Bad Boy.

Black Rob was another artist who was getting burned. When Rob realized that Puff was stonewalling about releasing his album, around this time, Puff's career had taken off and he couldn't catch Puff in the office or get him to answer phone calls.

When Black Rob started asking Puff to let him out of his contract, Puff finally started giving him studio time. The catch was that he was cooking the books to do so, engaging in a questionable practice called "piggybacking."

One night, for example, Mary J. Blige was doing a cameo for Bad Boy and was in the studio working with producer Stevie Jay for six hours straight. When the session was over, Stevie Jay and Blige left and dismissed the studio crew. But instead of letting everyone go home, Puff ordered the technicians and musicians to stay put. Then he called Black Rob and me into the studio and told us to work on a couple of songs for the next two hours.

When going over the accounts later, one of Blige's managers asked her about the eight hours she was billed for studio time at Bad Boy. Blige told him that it was in error, and that she had worked six hours that night. Puff was confronted about the discrepancy and promised to look into it. He took so long that Blige ended up being billed anyway.

Once Puff realized that he wouldn't be able to siphon enough studio time to finish Black Rob's album, he reluctantly gave Black Rob a recording budget. Although the album went platinum, Puff had given him such a lousy contract that Black Rob, a dropout with no job skills, was flat broke by the time it was released. To avoid the embarrassment of people finding out that he couldn't afford to pay child support with his meager publishing royalties from "Life Story," while Puff was living in luxury. Black Rob resorted to petty crime. Five months after his album dropped, he was serving time for burglary.

Diddy can be a bit overbearing at times, but you have to seriously respect that he is a genius when it comes to business. He is constantly grinding which is why he makes millions. I have to say that I love Diddy. And am SUPER excited to have a date that Day 26's new album comes out. The first one was FABULOUS so I cant wait to hear this one. I'll be picking it up the day it drops.
