The New Yorker Does It Again
Michelle Obama, Michelle Obama, News
Posted by Bossip Staff
The same f*cktards who issued this piece of doo-doo cover, have decided to make another attempt. Although it may seem like another case of “Black people being too sensitive,” we’re not feelin this shyte either. Michelle Obama is a whole helluva lot more than a fashion icon, she’s fierce, classy and full of heart and crazy intellect. A word to the folks at the New Yorker, fall back – f*ckers.

Ike and Tina need to do something new quick as the Bossip people’s clearly have too much time on their hands.

3/10/09, 08:06:am
The New Yorker is trying to be real funny! I think when they talk about fashionista Michelle…they are trying to take away from her intelligence!
Sydney
3/10/09, 08:06:am
This is a huge improvement over the “Militant Michelle” cover last year. Mrs. Obama has become quite the fashion icon.
I’ll have to pick up this issue.
told you so
3/10/09, 08:12:am
nope…dont see the issue on this

3/10/09, 08:12:am
Shut up alredy. This is a case of “black people” being too sensetive. Fall the ***** back and shut up. How about they just leave her off the cover? She *****s a guy who is the president SHE IS NO ONE SPECIAL, JUST LIKE YOU ARE NOT

It’s a waste of time being mad at the New Yorker. They’ve spoofed everybody for years and years. Seems like folks like Bossip didn’t pay attention until a black man ran for President. The militant Obama and Michelle cover was clearly over-the-top sarcasm.
Not only are Obamites unquestioning supporters, most of you are also overly sensitive.

3/10/09, 08:21:am
If anyone is an actual reader of the New Yorker you’d know that they make satirical comments/cartoons about everyone. No one is immune. Yes, we all love the Obamas but they are public figures – they are fair game just like every other public figure. By the way, Michelle Obama cites the New Yorker as one of her favorite mags (see her interview in the new “O” mag). Bossip, stop stepping over dollars to pickup nickles. Ya’ dig?
anger=change
3/10/09, 08:21:am
I guess my only problem is that they’re emphasizing her “style” before her intelligence and philanthropic efforts. The cover is cool, but I am getting quite tired of her being portrayed as some runway model or some *****…

@Kia:
I feel you. I said something similar, with a twist of lime. lol
I guess they are sensitive as well.
Bossip, you are one of the weakest sites on the internet. You dont let people post what they want to post, but yet you let these illiterate ***** young kids post profanity like its going outta style as well as other things I shall not mention.
But you wont let me post an educated letter to you, without profanity, without disrespect?
Wow.

Are ya’ll going to elaborate on yall issue??? It looks like a Terry McMillan book as far the illustration of Black women.

3/10/09, 08:43:am
Well, there is nothing wrong with the cover. They are hoping we complain about so they can prove their theory that blacks are too sensitive, and that we cry over the most stupid things…
So let’s not give them what they want! The cover is fine.

Eventhough she is more than just a fashion icon…majority of the media outlets just focus on what she’s wearing…so in this case can you really blame them????
Doc-2-B
3/10/09, 09:36:am
Bossip this is stupid, and i’m glad to see that most folks on this blog topic agree with me. If you actually READ The New Yorker (especially if you are a regular reader…it’s one of the most pro-Obama publications out there) you’ll realize that this week’s issue is THE STYLE ISSUE! Who’s been praised as a style icon lately in the media? Michelle Obama. If anyone deserved The New Yorker cover this week, it’s her, and she’s not rocking an AK-47 this time. I actually think they did this as a COMPLIMENT, not as an insult to her intellect.

Bossip,
I believe Ermy Erm asked you a question…please answer her! (LOL).
P.S. Kojo, you are trying to hard to intellectualize the cover. Saying she is a fashionista doesn’t detract from her brains. As women, she can be both beautiful and smart.

I don’t know how to take this really…I guess it is pretty insulting being as though the woman worked so hard to get where she is…she is a friggin HARVARD edcuated lawyer and as I am sure she doesn’t mind being a fashion Icon, whyyyy in the world they are focusing on that is beyond me? But on the other hand that is how our media nd our world is they focus on what makes you FAMOUS not what makes you smart.

3/10/09, 10:19:am
Ummmmm, I don’t c anything wrong with this cover. In fact, I think it’s pretty cool.
Michelle Obama is the 1st, 1st Lady since Jackie Kennedy 2 inspire the imaginations of so many people, and the New Yorker is reflecting that.
Now that cover they put out last year was str8 up BS…
Why
3/10/09, 10:22:am
What the F*CK are th eeditors at Bossip talking bout??????????????? There is nothing wrong with these sketches. Get a damn life and quit being so RACIST, everything somebody does is not out of prejudice. Those pictures are representative of Michelle, they are very tasteful..
This is a pure example of ignorance on the part of BOSSIP

TO THOSE WHO DIDN’T GET IT:
The New Yorker is saying it’s kind of like a fashion show that Michelle is putting on hence they put an audience in the backround and 3 of Michelle in various outfits she has worn in the past, walking on a rectangular-catwalk looking platform.
& I agree with Bossip, that she’s much more than a fashion icon. I think the white people are just mesmerized that she wears such bright colors or whatever but I think they need to wake up, black people will always look great in brighter colors. She can’t just wear neutrals and primaries – Sorry. They need to get over it and hopefully focus on the other things Michelle does and not what she’s wearing while she’s doing it.
Michelle keep doing your thing!!!

3/10/09, 11:31:am
I understand what Bossip is saying (surprised they picked up on it..LOL) It is an improvement as Sydney said earlier over the militant picture. However, knowing the editors of New Yorker they did not mean this to be a compliment.

Look.
I am a proud black woman, but come on. We have a brother in the Oval Office. Whatever these wack jobs have to say about our race, hair, skin, knowledge, sense, body shape etc…means nothing. Nothing at all.
We all know about the New Yorker and the skank journalist they have.
Yeah they are mocking her as a Fashion Queen when we know the outfits Cindy McCain was rockin’ in the Primaries was far and beyond the wife of a campaigner.
Let the ***** go. I have come to the conclusion that if the only way a person or entity(media)can mock my heritage is away from my face….they are a oral ***** wipe and I wish the editors of the New Yorker to go to the ghetto and try saying this *****. They are doing it for attention and sales.
Racism will never be dead and we do not have to condone in it.

Nothing is wrong with the cover and yes blacks in America are way to sensitive the Obama’s are fair game…just like any other president and first lady. It is crazy if white people say something about him/them they are racist and if black people say something they are sell outs! By the way I AM A BLACK FEMALE
Kigali (Birth control until marriage)
3/10/09, 12:12:pm
@souther LA Cal,
Youre my neighbor btw. I live in LA. Anyway I am a woman and I see through all the games that black females play. They love to scream victim, racism. Everywhere they go there is something to complain about. On the Kanye West thread you were just talking about hard done by dark skinned women. More victimization. Its all a power play with black females, If they feel like they are being victimized, their is no limit to how they can react and it will all be justified.
I am sick of it and as a black woman, they make my life harder than it has to be because when people see me, they see that angry black female just ready to start some *****. black females call that strength, I call it insecurity, weakness and pettiness.

I am not sure the cover makes an *****umption that Michelle O. is just another fierce fashionista.
I mean what should they do put a crown on her head and a scepter in her hand. Even Jackie O. was idolized in this way.
I don’t get it Bossip? Is it because they darkened her skin too much for you? I think she’s beautiful dark skinned and in pretty clothes and also I think its flattering that she is getting this much attention for her fashion and beauty as did Jackie O.
However as the President’s term furthers along I am sure her intelligence will be exhibited more than we’ve seen thus far and maybe then the New Yorker will put a scepter in her hand.

3/10/09, 12:25:pm
bossip you do know that the New Yorker has black people working for it too right? It’s a satirical magazine and michelle obama said it’s one of her favs to read ! They make fun of everyone ! If you are calling racism, then you should do it when they put up satirical pics of all races, not just black people. Or is racism ok as long as it geared towards non-blacks? Get a grip already, there is nothing offensive about the pic.
WoW
3/10/09, 12:26:pm
The big problem is that this dumb***** cover is some primitive ***** drawing of what a black woman looks like. I mean REALLY?!?!?! This in no shape or form is flattering or shows what or who Mrs. Obama really is.
man oh man
3/10/09, 12:26:pm
since when is showing a woman in cl*****y clothing, giving a cl*****y smile, and walking in a cl*****y manner, a bad thing ??? Bossip shut up.

3/10/09, 12:30:pm
ummm alot of “first ladies” were style icons, it’s a compliment and the drawing looks just like michelle, it’s pretty and flattering. Give the whole “racism” thing a break. The new yorker does this to EVERYONE in the limelight, why would they leave the Obama’s out of it?
lol
3/10/09, 12:38:pm
lol bossip what do you know about cl*****? you use words like f*cktards in your posts ! get cl*****y like michelle obama and then maybe we will take you seriously ! Michelle rocks, the drawing is a compliment in my eyes !
Kigali (Birth control until marriage)
3/10/09, 12:42:pm
@wow,
Its drawn like that because it is supposed to be a fashion sketch you idiot. And this is the ***** I am talking about. As a First Lady she’s only made a statement with her fashion ( to be honest )
She’s been really shy of coming out in any way politically so as not to anger the Obama-haters out there who couldn’t handle a strong wife ( WE KNOW SHE IS )
I’m okay with the cover, it could have been worse.. let’s face it and any press is good press.

IT’S A F-ING SPOOF, BOSSIP!!! GET OVER IT. That’s just one of the “perks” that comes with the role!
Bossip if you had any respect for Michelle’s intelligence…then you would automatically *****ume that Michelle is intelligent enough to pay this s–t any attention because she KNOWS who she is as a person and everything good she is capable of. SO BOSSIP STOP WITH THE HYPOCRISY….Not EVERYBODY sees color like you do. The discrimination these days is not between race or white vs black…it’s between rich and poor. It doesn’t matter what color you are if you are rich, then most if not all people will exept you in their society….but if your poor or not privelaged, see how many elite organizations or clubs will take you in. GROW UP BOSSIP AND OPEN YOUR EYES!!!! THERE ARE NEW DISCRIMINATIONS COMING AND GOING AS TIME CHANGES!

Bossip…this is the dumbest post you have ever put up. the New Yorker cover is cl*****y and appropriate. Not only are you being too sensitive, you are creating something out of nothing, or worse, seeing something negative in a compliment.
Jasib
3/10/09, 13:23:pm
O.k. now were being to sensitive. Everything is not a jab. Just because the mention that she is fashionable is not a strike against her intellect. Every first lady is always mentioned because of style or lack there of. Stop reaching for a problem.

where’s the issue?!?!
HF
3/10/09, 13:40:pm
Naw… I’m as vocally militant as u can get. When the New Yorker did that ish last year with the Obamas, I called em out.
In THIS case:
This so happens 2 b the STYLE issue of the New Yorker. They went with a tastefully rendered cartoon of the First Lady 4 the cover, and I really don’t c any subliminal or ulterior messages here.
Jackie Kennedy was reknowned 4 her sense of style and decorum, and no other first lady has ever been recognized on that same level until Mrs Obama.
Trust… the monkey cartoons and watermelon emails weren’t lost on most of us -but I c that most of us here don’t find a problem with the cover of the STYLE issue of this magazine.

it’s not black people who are too sensitive, it the people who say they speak for black people who are too sensitive. these public figures do not speak for all of us.

I don’t get it. I love the cover. Heck, I’d get it framed.
So it’s okay for Bossip to call Ms Obama a “chick” all the time, but not for a mag (even the New Yorker) to do a cl*****y cartoon of her?
Come on.

That’s a HUGE problem with black people. You don’t get MAD ENOUGH. You forgive the oppressors QUICKLY and shun the wise and bold. I can’t believe I actually saw some lady post that she would “have to pick this issue up”. WOW. Why on earth would she or ANYBODY black EVER support these people after the ONE time they published racism??? That’s all it takes for me. True colors don’t change they just get brighter.

@JayJay
Please enlighten me on what exactly is wrong with this particular issue. The reason why stuff offends people so much is because they allow it to. And, this might be surprising but I honestly did not see what the big hoopla was over the previous issue they put out with Barack in Muslim garb and Michelle looking militant with a machine gun. It was satire and it was intended to make fun of the ridiculous sterotypes that people were putting on the Obamas. This particular issue is not offensive to me and I would not have looked at it and gotten offended by anything whatsoever. Sometimes we are so busy creating stuff to get offended over that we create more problems for ourselves in the long run. Loosen up…

@ Kigali (Birth control until marriage)-i’m black, & i’m not angry & i dont feel like anyone owes me *****..most of my friends are black and are some of the most respectable & sincere young women alive..& they DONT go looking for trouble..so for you to generalize all black women like that is beyond me

It kind of seems we are beating a dead horse with this one. I can see where this can be translated as distasteful but to expect the New Yorker to be “on our side” is like expecting Bossip to actually have our best interest at heart. Give up on either happening.
Regardless, we have bigger things to worry about besides a cartoon. Picture this: It’s 2010 and we are in a depression, one breath away from total martial law….are you thinking about a cartoon? Probably not, so why concern ourselves with it now.

Yes. Also, females don’t understand the true Goddess, we are. Maybe it’s not a diva or picking a fight. It’s just respect, but it’s been tainted by con mans that have force us to subdue to their m*****es.. So, it involves a lot to me. Don’t just see the one side. Some peeps need to be around more empowering peeps to help them achieve… But they way you come off with it. It’s negative as well, my love. So, you right in the boat

obviously, Bossip is stating that the New Yorker can NEVER be right! Bossip is being too sensitive now! There is nothing wrong with this picture. Maybe Bossip trying to see if “we” see someting wrong and start talking sh*t!

i agree its just a spoof. i had no idea they spoof folks. But to the people who didnt get it they are saying that she is just here to look pretty and dress up wear nice things. When she is so much more than that she is the other half to the most inspirational blessing us black folks EVER seen she is our first lady. Our black first lady. And should not be critisized for looking good while making history.but im all for funny spoofs.there is a very thin line between funny and just down right insulting.

I agree…i don’t see anything wrong with the picture per se but why is it that the New Yorker keeps posting up these sort of pictures (Obama) after all the controversy with the previous posts…it’s like maybe they are doin this on purpose…don’t be fooled folks I’m sure there is some underlining jab at the Obamas…not being sensitive b/c I really don’t care but I remember the whole “monkey” & Obama cover…even a child with basic historical knowledge would be able to pick up the racial sterotype…there is a difference b/c pure underlining racism and being sarcastic…I do state that from the looks of it, I see nothing wrong with the above picture but u never know

Bossip must be confusing The New Yorker with The New York Post. It was The NY Post not New Yorker that had the other cartoon.

In my opinion Michelle is a woman of substance. Of course she does not only only embody what they have portrayed here but if they were trying to do that with a single cover they would quickly run out of *****e, so let them start here, who’s to say it will be the first and last cover that features her exclusively. Like it or not, the First lady on the ‘WORLD STAGE’. Thus far she has done a great job.
Stupid is as stupid does

she is on the WORLD’S STAGE, and so is the president. This is pretty accurate.

@love,
I am glad that you are black but not angry. My point is that there are enough angry black females out there to ruin it for most of us. You and your friends arent representative of most black females. You are the minority. Thats the problem.

Shut the hell up Bossip. I’m an illustrator and I don’t think there’s anything bad about this image. Michelle looks chic and smart.

3/10/09, 22:15:pm
There’s nothing wrong with the cover. Jackie Kennedy was a fashion icon as well. Bossip is always trying to ***** about something and lately making everything into some kind of racial thing. Bossip writers are dumb.

This is the STYLE ISSUE of the “New Yorker.” The title of this cover is “Michelle O.” I think the editors at Bossip would do well to read more widely and learn about the world beyond women’s cakes.

IT’S CALLED SATIRE…THE NEW YORKER IS MAKING FUN OF THE PEOPLE THAT ONLY SEE HER AS THAT…HOW THE MSM IS OBSSESSED WITH WHAT SHE’S WEARING…I BEGINNING TO THINK THE BOSSIP WRITERS ARE CERTIFIED RETARDED…WAS IT A BUNCH OF BOSSIP WRITERS IN THAT FIGHT CLUB IN TEXAS…STOP TRYING TO START STUFF.
What is the world coming too?

LOL Bossip got called out hard. Bossip, please do understand that the people here are well aware of the BS ya’ll post and will not hesitate to jump on that ***** and call you out direct on it. Think before you post bossip, think before you post.

Was Laura Bush ever portrayed as a clotheshorse? oh, wait a minute….LB had no STYLE. Hasn’t the New Yorker done enough by publishing the cover with the Obamas in costume? I reject all subtle/overt attempts at trivializing our President and First Lady. Don’t say “lighten up” when you are called out about something that is not funny. WE GET YOUR MESSAGE.
